I made this linen button down dress / beach coverup 2 years ago and I wear it so much on holiday. I used @simplicity_creative_group 8546 to make it. I love it because it’s easy to throw on over my swimsuit and since it’s linen it’s actually very cool and comfortable even in the heat. And when I’ve had enough 🌞 I can throw this on to protect my shoulders. Where I live, you always need another jacket and this one is a great option for cool mornings or evenings. This beautiful denim coloured jacket is from the upholstery section of @spotlightstores and I just love it. I tend to buy quite a lot of my fabric from the upholstery section, they tend to be cotton rich and the pattern designs are just stunning. #S8546 and my third make complete! 💕 This is my take on the classic ‘plaid flannel shirt’. I’ve always loved shirt dresses and their versatility so when I saw this pattern I locked in on view D straight away - the cold shoulder detail is so cool (if you ask dad he thinks I ran out of fabric for the shoulders 😜) I learnt how to do a mandarin collar, pockets, curved hem, a sleeve placket and I found out that my little old Pfaff Tipmatic 1027 has a button hole setting. I was even able to sew on the buttons by machine - crazy! I had trouble with the bias binding around the shoulder cutouts but it’s not noticeable while wearing it at least 😬 The biggest challenge that made cutting the pieces take sooo long was pattern matching so I’ll need to get some tips on how to do that more efficiently next time. I forgot to post this yesterday. A great outfit for the office it turned out. The shirt dress is @simplicitymccallsuk #s8546 in what I think is a #libertyfabric bushed cotton. I bought it on EBay from a vintage re-seller (again) so can’t be sure. The linen trousers are classic M&S that I’ve had for donkeys years, same with the cami. The necklace is from a charity shop in Marazion. I love that place. Anyway, the combination is perfect and will get worn a lot. I was very comfy, felt fabulous in it and got lots of compliments. This “Recycled Polyester” upholstery fabric in colour “Blu” makes the perfect travel outfit. It has the look of linen but without all the wrinkles, as they practically shake out! It has a wonderful drape, yet it irons beautifully when sewing, so your seams and waistband sit flat. Due to all the sitting whilst travelling, I lined the pants with a polyester lining for extra support. This is such a versatile fabric that I made it into a dress that can also be worn as a duster/coat so you can layer your outfit if the weather turns cool and to be very versatile if travelling light. One of my biggest flex is I can honestly say I made it for a lot of things. This outfit? I made it. 🪡 Videos? Wow, look at all those button holes! You can really hone your skills by the time to make 10 of them! My 36 year old Bernina 1130 makes great ones for its vintage. There is a manual button hole feature on the panel that I love. There is also an attachment that can be used to repeat the same size, but it is a little fiddly, so I don't use it. I always sew my buttons on with the machine as well. Turns out I’m a sucker for a cold-shoulder moment! I’m finally documenting Simplicity 8546 (view D), and this pattern holds a special place in my sewing journey. I first tackled it back in 2023 when I was a baby sewist, and I absolutely butchered the armhole binding 🤦‍♀️ (pink plaid version) Fast-forward to now: nailed it! 💪🏼 This time around, I turned the shirt dress into more of a blouse-meets-beach-cover-up vibe, thanks to some slinky fabric and a few simple tweaks: * I cut two back yokes and used the burrito method for a clean, polished inside. (No raw edges here!) * Ditched the cuffs and elasticized the sleeves instead, landing them just shy of full length and I’m obsessed. * Instead of the standard back center pleat, I widened the back panel, then gathered it to match the yoke. It’s comfier, adds a touch of fancy, and avoids that “broad-shoulder squeeze” I felt in my first version. (Maybe that was my tragic first attempt at the binding - we’ll never know for sure.) * Cut the length slightly shorter than the intended dress length and added side splits instead of pockets. This pattern’s got great instructions, cute details, and so much potential to put your own personal spin on it. Safe to say, it won’t be the last time I make it! Yes, it's a shirt dress! 👗 #fashion I sewed up this fabulous, long shirt dress using @simplicity_creative_group #s8546 to wear as a duster to layer or wear alone as a dress. It features long sleeves, which I'll roll up if needed, cuffed with buttons, no side slits, no pockets because I didn't want any of that. Instead of grading out the bottom half of a size 14 pattern, I used the slash and spread method from the button-up shirt dress hack in @mimigstyle book, "Make it yours with mimi g," to achieve this look. My pants are the elastic waist pants from her @sewitacademy course #7. Top fabric: poly crepe from @americanafabricsct Pants facric: linen from @americanafabricsct. Earrings: memade I'm sure they will become staples in my wardrobe, and I'll be sewing up more versions of this pattern.

Here is another version of Simplicity 8546 shirt dress. This one was inspired by a dress I saw from Karen Millen (Swipe to see). Instead of white piping I decided to use the decorative stitch on my sewing machine, I’m really pleased with how it turned out. This will be worn a lot in the cooler months.✨ I made view A added 4” to the length and the sleeves are from view B. Like the previous version I lined the yolk (the method is saved in the highlight S8546 if you want to see the process). For the hem I used black bias binding and handstitched it in place, this was the best method to create the curves at the sides. I tried tying the ties few different ways. Which one do you prefer? 💙💙💙NEW BLOG ALERT - My bold, blue Toile maxi shirtdress is a #patternhack of the fantastic @MaisonFauve #chemiseSkyline . I am in love with the Skyline's back vent🥰, but this pattern has so many other options to play with. It was fun to bring in another colourway to contrast the back yoke and under collar, and although you can't see it in the pics, the pleated collar is superb.👌 I loved constructing this dress.
