This semester has been WILD. It occured to me that I never posted the proper pictures of my halloween costume. These pieces where made using Simiplicity patterns #s1200 and #s8549. I get base pieces from the pattern from a black cotton then stitched the colorful handpainted fat quarters. I chose the sleeveless top and then promptly regretted it. Massachusetts is a hell of a lot colder than Georgia. But I had the perfect wrap. This is by far my favorite pieces I've made. Also A+ twirl-ability. S8549✖️The pattern for this dress is Simplicity 8549. The original is a top but it’s super easy to add a skirt to it. I used view C for the front and view B for the back. I did some adjustments after the first muslin and then cut into the gingham. I vaguely remember I needed to recut the top. It just goes to show how important it is to use a fabric with similar structure as the one for the final garment. Anyhow, once I passed that minor hiccup, I added a gathered full circle skirt with an attached gathered layer and the dress was ready for a spin. It's all in the details. 💛 Swipe to see how this top turned out!! The last photo is the top I originally made out of this amazing block print from @athriftynotion but it never quite fit and the construction wasn't great. I still had a bit of yardage too so I was able to turn it into something I'll actually wear! For this I used simplicity 8549 and added on the lower gathered portion which has elastic in the back (due to the ties) I love how it turned out but if I ever tire of it I might take the peplum off and just wear it as the pattern intended, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
