Last weekend while waiting for the binding to arrive for my corset, I made the mockup for Vogue V9239, a princess seamed dress with sleeve and skirt options. I’m making view A, the simple sheath with cap sleeves, as a work dress and to replace the black Vogue V8997 that’s now slightly too big for me. Fortunately my measurements no longer require a cup size larger than the D cup both patterns come with, and I was able to cut the size 22D without having to grade anything up. Whew, that’s easier. So I made my initial length adjustments (-1.5” above the waist, -0.5” below), sewed it up, and then made some tweaks to the pattern based on the mockup. I ultimately took out about 0.5” from the neck in front (taking out a dart next to the yoke seam tapering down to the apex) and about half that from the center back seam on each side above the shoulder blades, to fix the gaping front and back necklines. I also raised the front arm hole to cover my bra line, added some ease in the waist to keep it from clinging so much, and added 2” of length back at the mid thigh. (All of my height is in my legs, not my torso, obviously.) After making my adjustments I cut out just the lining using the new pattern and did a test fit of the lining bodice to make sure it worked. It did, so I cut out the fashion fabric - this nice poly cotton twill with slight stretch. I worked on the outer pieces yesterday, so I expect to finish assembling it all either tonight or tomorrow. #sewing #curvysewing #v9239 #sheathdress

Day 19 - note to self 'don't stand infront of the washing line to take your photo' 🤭 Today not at school so a summer #v9239 The fabric is quilting cotton with cows on. Always gets positive comments- people like cows. Worn with #blackwoodcardigan by helens closet - fabric fine cotton jersey. Got excited by the sun and swapped out to my summer wardrobe. Did a wardrobe audit and found some new combinations to try for my wardrobe orphans and took a couple of orphans to the charity shop. Also identified a dress I never will be thin enough to wear and 1 that I can never be bothered to iron - these are now in the 'to be refashioned' pile. Will this be the final make of the year? Maybe! Cut out months ago, in where I actually muslined the bodice before staring, also months ago. It was good I listened to my little voice screaming at me to do so, the princess seams needed full redrafting for a proper fit. BUT! This was straightforward to sew otherwise, with a nearly 4 yard skirt hem. Day 28 - missed a few days as neither I nor the weather were feeling it. And it’s done except for the hand work. (I need to add the back hook and eye and sew down the lining around the zipper and waist seam. I’ll do that later.) Tonight I got the zipper in and tried it on, and I’m really happy with it. The zipper and back vent are both top stitched, which should help reinforce both even if those aren’t my preferred finishes. I didn’t think to modify the back vent pattern to have an overlap or to obtain a 22” invisible zipper, so I went with (mostly) what the pattern directed for both. It’s still perfectly serviceable and will make a fine work dress. As for the fit, I’m SO pleased. There’s no neck gaping in front or back, you can’t see my bra unless you get up really close and look, and it fits my bust, waist, and hips quite well. It doesn’t cling unpleasantly anywhere. I also added trouser style side seam pockets (stitched into the waist seam to support the weight), and they are only really noticeable if you know what to look for. One of these pictures has my phone case in the pocket, and even looking for it I couldn’t spot the outline in the black fabric. I call that a win. The dress looks good, has enough wearing ease to be really comfortable, and is in what should be a hard wearing poly cotton stretch twill fabric. (RIP Joann, where I got it in the liquidation sale.) This dress is definitely going in the wardrobe rotation for work. I also have enough fabric left I’m going to make a short bolero to go with it, probably using the same pattern I used several years ago for my tropical mix-and-match, vintage-inspired ensemble. This cute little sheath dress was a UFO from Spring 2021 I finally finished sewing up last week and just getting around to taking photos of it. I love the subtle animal print linen fabric, the neckline that extends into little tiny raglan cap sleeves, and the fact that I used my muslin mock up version I made of the dress as the lining! I’ll be sure to post photos of me in it once I get all dolled up, accessorized, and convince my hubby to snap some pics, then take me out on a date! This is another great Vogue Easy Options pattern V9239 that includes several styles to make from the base pattern, and separate bodice pattern pieces for A,B,C and D cup sizes also included for a great fit! This is my version of the #v9239. Fabric is a beautiful embroidered and beaded net from @fabrictextilecentral_ .I also purchased a trim that was hand stitched to the hem of the dress. The pattern was cut in a size 8 and modifications were made to the skirt length and sleeve length. Giving my new cardigan its first outing. It's the #stylearc Nina swing cardigan - fabric is from Higgs & Higgs - which I picked up at the #theknittingandstitchingshow. Really pleased with how it turned out - had read the reviews so knew style arc patterns had minimal instructions but easily came together. Happy new year !! I’m jumping on the #make9 bandwagon this year, although I have hundreds of planned projects always swimming around my brain, hopefully I can get these done! I’m not holding myself to the original patterns / fabric choices, it’s more the function to be fulfilled, but some inspiration. 1) a floaty summer dress. I know this #simplicity8014 works well for me in viscose so these seem like a good choice 2) a swimming costume. It might be one of two pieces but must be shorts. I love the ruching and miriad of options on the #radpatterns #firstcrushswimsuit and I already have this pattern. Fabric to be purchased! 3) a brocade dress. This is definitely the fabric I bought from #samueltaylorsleeds and probably view D of the #v9239 4) I’m making my hubby some pjs - will probably use the free #ellieandmac pattern. Woven trousers and knit top. 5) strappy summer dress - I’m thinking view c of the #s9742 - possibly in batik .. 6) jeans. Yet to decide. Fabric yet to be bought! 7) tailored work trousers in this stretch grey linen from #northernmonkeymakes to match my suit jacket. Maybe #s8056, need to toile these first. 8) boys shirt in this gorgeous train fabric. I don’t have the pattern yet but will got for something like the #wavesandwild sunset shirt 9) velvet jacket using tried and tested #s8844 and black herringbone velvet - this has been on my to do list most of 2023! My trip to Paris gave me an opportunity to wear my latest makes. This is another of my favourite dress pattern #v9239 in a monet print from @thecheapshoptiptree It's the first with pockets 😍😍😍 thanks to the lovely folks at @newcrafthouse and their pocket deepdive course - since attending I have the joy of pockets in all my makes.
