A throwback to two cosplay costumes I’ve made for Linnea in the past. She draws/designs..I make!! @keikokup The black one was the most challenging yet... I made a corset using #b5662 with lots of added ruffle edging, the skirt was #m6706 with cut out crosses made with iron on vinyl(another challenge) also made the flared, ruffles arm bands, choker and headband! The board I created was for March 2025 only. I don't think I'll complete everything this month, but I'm still going to try. So far, I've completed 3 pieces. What's going to take the longest is figuring out what fabric to use with each pattern. That always takes the most time for me. Guess we'll see what happens. :-O I'm petite and shortened the bodice length on all of these. Butterick 6149 THE MUSLIN The navy blue solid ruffled dress that I made started out as a muslin. I usually don't make muslins because I have my fit down, but I made one for this because it's a backless style that closes in the back with a zipper. For this to work, the fit has to be perfect, or it'll sag in the back. No sagging here. I changed the way the straps are constructed because I thought the pattern's way was too sloppy. You might not understand this unless you actually sew this, but I sewed the straps separately, then sewed them together like a lining, so the seams would be hidden. If you sew this, you'll understand. If not, just ignore this. For the skirt, I used a gathered skirt from a junior sized pattern so the length would fit me without any adjustments. Perfect! Even if this started out as a muslin, I love it how it swishes and drapes so much that it's going into my wardrobe as a regular piece. THE FINAL Since the muslin was a dress, I decided to make the rompers with my good fabric. I planned on longer rompers, but ran out of fabric, so it's a smidge shorter than I planned on, but it works. And for the strap closure, I used medium sized snaps. They work perfectly. Butterick 5662 I didn't make a muslin and my dress turned out perfectly. Because of the shoulder ties, I've been wanting to sew this dress for years. I love that style element. No changes other than shortening the waist and skirt length. Both patterns are good ones. All of the pattern pieces fit together perfectly, and the styles turned out exactly how I imagined they would. Both were also easy to sew. That's it for now. Stay safe out there! See you next week!
