400자 쓰기 1회차 <출근> 거의 평생을 나는 집과 직장(혹은 주 서식지?)을 걸어서 10분 거리로 유지하고 있었다. 초등학교 5학년때, 학교 후문 앞 아파트에 살기 시작한 이후로 특별한 일이 없다면 도어 투 데스크에 30분 이상을 투자해 본 적이 없었다. 그러던 와중에 집을 고양시 화정지구로 옮긴 건 나름대로 큰 도박이었다. 초등학교 5학년 이후 처음으로 일과를 위한 이동시간을 편도 30분 이상 소모해야했기 때문이다. 아침의 출근길은 생각보다 편안하다. 회사 출근시간이 남들보다 30분 늦고, 집앞에서 회사 인근까지 한번에 이어주는 광역버스가 있기때문이다. 지역에 따라선 서울 사는 사람들보다 더 쉬울 때도 있다. 다만 대구나 서울에서 느껴보지 못했던, 배차간격의 압박이 있기때문에 나름대로 매일 긴장하며 버스 정류장으로 나선다. 집앞에서 회사 바로 앞을 잇는 M7129번 버스는 우리 마을 사람들에겐 너무나도 좋은 버스다. 텅 빈 채로 마을 앞에서 출발하고, 어지간한 정류장은 다 무정차 통과하며, (이건 나에게만 특혜지만) 다른 버스는 서지 않는 경복궁역 정류장에 정차한다. 이렇게 쓰면 너무나도 좋은 버스지만 한가지 문제가 있다. 우리 집앞에서 8시 45분에 출발하면 회사 출근 시간에 늦지 않게 도착하지만, 여기서 단 3분이라도 늦게 도착하면 정말 피가 말리는 경쟁을 해야한다. 가끔 교통정체인지 뭔지 8시 50분이 되서야 정류장에 도착하는 경우도 있는데, 이러면 출근길 내내 좌불안석이다. 아마 며칠 전 어느 날이 딱 그러했던 경우다. 사실 이 뒤에 서술된 모든 고통을 덜고자 한다면 오전 7시 45분에 일어나 8시 15분에 집앞에서 출발하는 내가 타려는 버스의 바로 앞버스를 타면 된다. 하지만 내 본능속의 게으름은 그것을 거부한다. 아침잠 30분은 아편보다 더 독한 마약이다. 여느날도 그런 날이었다. 알람은 오전 7시에 맞춰놨으나, 어떻게든 침대속에 밍기적대다 8시 35분이 되서야 집을 나선다. 이 날은 특히 운이 없었달까. 두어번 정시에 맞춰나왔지만 버스를 놓쳤던 경험때문인지, 나는 5분일찍 정류장에 나왔다. 하지만 그날따라 버스는 7분이나 늦게 정류장에 도착했다. 불행한 기운이 머릿속에 뻗쳐왔다. 다행인지 불행인지 문앞좌석이 비어있어 자리에 앉았는데, 집앞을 출발한 버스가 아파트 단지를 벗어나기 전까지, 그 초조함을 이루어 말할 수 없이 견디게 됐다. 차라리 모르는게 낫지, 그 아침의 아수라장을 눈앞에 보는 건 차마 할 짓이 못됐다. 한 명이라도 더 태우려는 기사님, 빨리 서울로 나가려고 하는 승객들 간의 소리없는 전쟁. 그야말로 '체험 삶의 현장!' 신호등이 노란불이 됐을때 횡단보도 넘어가는 걸 포기해버리는 기사 선생님의 안도의 한숨에 승객들은 원망의 볼멘소리로 화답한다. 이윽고 아파트 지구를 나가고, 승객들은 고속질주를 원했지만, 꼭 이럴때 광활한 고양중앙로의 신호등은 우리 버스에게 레드카드를 들이민다. 평소같으면 5분만에 주파했을거리에 신호만 2번 걸려서 신호대기에만 7분이 소모된다. 안되려면 넘어저도 뒤가 깨진다고, 서울로 들어와서도 연신 신호에 걸린다. 보통같으면 신경도 안썼을텐데 다들 전방을 보며 피가 바짝바짝 마른다. 하필이면 아무도 안타는 연세대 정류장에서도 이런 날에 사람은 탄다. 속에서 욕이 나온다. 뒤늦게 승객들의 레이저빔을 느꼈는지 버스기사는 건물 10층 높이의 고가도로를 제한속도를 가볍게 넘기며 주파하지만, 승객들의 표정은 이미 반쯤은 사색이 되었다. 이미 늦은 것이다. 경복궁역 정류장에 내릴 때 즈음이면 다들 살짝 눈이 풀려있다. 체념이다. 정류장에 내리고, 다들 머릿속에서 5~10분 뒤에 겪을 직장상사의 속사포 랩에 두려운 얼굴 속에서 자신들의 둥지로 향한다. 왜 찰나의 시간 동안 망설였는지 혼자서 마음속의 반성문을 500장씩 쓰고 있다. 상사에게 혼날때면 내일은 절대 지각하지 않겠노라는 자신만의 시말서를 500장쯤 쓰곤 한다. 사실, 30분만 일찍 일어나면 문제가 없을 일이다. 하지만, 우리의 아침 잠은 끝이 없고, 같은 실수를 반복한다. 내일 아침도 똑같은 전쟁을 계속할 것이다. #글쓰기 #출근 #m7129 #버스

#week12 of the #52weeksewingchallenge was a pretty basic #sewsomethingforyourself. I did up this quick and easy #wrapcircleskirt (which is also reversible). Because seriously - the only thing better than ONE #skirtwithpockets is it actually being TWO skirts that BOTH have pockets and is adjustable to a mildly fluctuating waist size! The print side fabric is vintage mod print fabric the neighbor gave me. Edging is blue bias tape. Solid side is a blue woven cotton from @joann_stores. The pattern is #mccalls7129. #MEMADEMAY2020 📸 My #m7129 skirt in quilting cotton... It *had* pockets... The first garment I made with pockets, too! Except they were those awful slant pockets that stick out at odd angles as soon as you move. And I like to move! So before I got dressed today, I sat at my machine in my skivvies and sewed those darned pockets shut. Happy Thursday. So let me tell you what I am loving about this sewing journey...anything that is in my closet and is not working I can now repurpose it for what works for my body. I now look at it like, how many yards of material is this? 🤔😀 This was a skirt given to me by my sister. It was one of the long maxi skirts with a large elastic waist band. It was coming up a little short and I was not wearing it. I liked the print and was like I can re make this for my body. Checked my pattern stash and selected McCalls 7129 and got to work. 400자 글쓰기 챌린지 54회차 <제발 정류장에 서주세요. 경기도 버스> ⠀ 경기도로 이사온 지도 1년 반이 되어가지만, 아직 적응안되는 것 중에 하나가 바로 버스다. 서울에서 안온하게 10년 가까이 살다가, 와일드(?)한 경기도 버스의 세계로 넘어오니 매 순간 긴장해야하고 당황스러운 일이 많이 벌어진다. 서울과 차원이 다른 과속(나아진게 이거라서 놀라울 지경), 배차간격도 있지만 가장 적응 안되는 것은 정류장에 서지 않고 통과하는 버스들을 볼때다. ⠀ 서울 버스는 정류장마다 어지간하면 다 선다. 서울 시계외 바깥이나 아주 특별한 경우를 제외하곤 일단 서는 척이라도 하고 손님이 휴대폰을 보고 있으면 경적을 울리거나 여러 방식으로 버스가 왔음을 알려준다. 그래서 휴대폰을 보고 있다 놓치는 일이 매우 드물다. ⠀ 하지만 경기도 버스는 다르다. 버스가 알아서 정차하는 자비 따윈 없다. 중심가라 할지라도 적극적으로 의사 표시를 하지 않으면 버스가 서질 않는다. 정류장에 앉아서 폰을 보고 있다? 버스 타기 싫단 소리다. 버스 어플리케이션에서 정차 안내를 해준다지만, 경기도 버스는 묘하게 시간차가 좀 있어서 긴장하지 않으면 언제든 버스를 놓칠 가능성은 충만하다. ⠀ 그냥 손만 흔드는 걸론 부족하다. 적극적인 액숀을 취해야 한다. 내가 집에 갈때 타는 서울지방경찰청 앞 정류장은 서울시 일반버스 노선이 많이 정차하는데, 버스가 몇 대 줄지어 서있으면 광역버스들은 걍 귀찮아서 정차하지도 않고 전속력으로 통과해버린다. 버스들이 길게 줄 서 있다? 그 버스열 끝까지 뛰어가서 뒤에서 오는 경기도 버스를 부르기 위해 양손을 휘두르며 온갖 액숀을 취해야한다. 그렇지 않으면 버스는 승객없는 줄 알고 휭 가버린다. 어제는 그 버스 잡으러 2차로까지 뛰어나가고 나서야 겨우 잡을 수 있었다. ⠀ 필사적으로 나서야 할 이유는 또 있다. 서울 일반 시내버스는 놓쳐도 길어봐야 10~15분 정도면 다음 버스가 오는데 반해 경기도 버스(특히 광역버스)는 배차간격이 어마무시하게 길기때문에, 한번 놓치면 그 허탈감은 말로 이룰 수가 없다. 퇴근길에 M7129번 버스 한번 놓치면 대충 한시간 반을 기다려야하는데, 진짜 삶의 의욕이 사라질 정도다. 내가 휴대폰을 보다 놓친건 차마 억울하지도 않지, 손을 아무리 흔들어도 못보고 통과해버리거나, 기껏 출발하려는거 붙잡고 버스 몸통까지 쳤는데 무시하고 썡 가버리면 왠지 모를 증오가 막 솟구치고... ⠀ 여러가지 사정이 있다는 것은 알고 있다. 서울과 달리 준공영제가 아닌 탓에 불안정한 노동환경도 있고, 회사에서 빡세게 운행시간표를 짜서 그거 맞추려면 기사들이 엄청 서둘러야하는 것도 있다. 거기에 사실 경기도 버스가 서울 버스처럼 정류장을 다 서고 그러면 소요시간이 무한정 늘어나니 없다싶으면 휙 떠나는거 이해는 할 수 있다. ⠀ 그래도, 어차피 멈추는 정류장이 한정된 M버스나 간선급행버스들은 좀 정류장을 차분히 살피고 가주면 안되려나. 제도적 노력들이야 많은 시간이 걸린다쳐도 이건 조금만 신경쓰면 될 법도 한데. 잘 모르는 사람의 푸념일 수도 있으나, 한 번 놓치면 오후 전체가 꼬이는 승객입장도 헤아려 주심이. #400자글쓰기챌린지 #m7129 #경기도버스

This McCalls pattern, m7129, was labeled "Learn to Sew," so I thought it would be easy but it took SO. MUCH. FABRIC and the hem was SO LONG that I found it more time consuming and difficult than many intermediate projects. Plus, not including directions for a button hole for the tie to go through was bonkers. My project this week was a reversible wrap skirt using this skate fabric I got last year at @firecrackerfabrics that I never fully used up. I used a beginner pattern, #m7129 , for most of the construction, but I wanted the skates to be straight so I did it as a rectangular gathered skirt rather than a circle skirt.
