After 18 weeks, my tailored jacket is finally finished! ✨ . This was my last sewing class in completion for the Clothing Construction certificate 👩🏻‍🎓 A lot of time and energy when into this last piece! Single and double welt pockets, full lining and interlining action, boss shoulder pads... the works! Another UFO complete! Finally, after 2+ years in the making (more like start, get stuck on one part, stop, put aside in a random bag, forget about it, then remember it, dig out and restart), process, perserverance and progress got me a lovely new blazer to wear! Yes, this was one of my unfinished projects I started over two years ago that I pulled out and finally finished! As I have many new projects that I’d like to make this year, I promised myself that I would finish at least one project before I start a new one. This a a great, basic tailored blazer made using a lightweight wool twill in black, lined in a teal blue silk charmeuse. I used McCalls M7818 pattern from Palmer Pletsch designed by Melissa Watson. It was not an easy make by any means. Through the many steps of the instructions, making the welt pockets I think was the most difficult part. ⚡ Tailor made ⚡ In the nearly 10 years we've been together, I have only bought my husband one piece of clothing. Despite being super chill, he's quite particular with his clothing and is a difficult size to buy for (short & built Asian-physique - y'all know that I mean). So when he mentioned that he wanted a coat, this was my chance! I used McCall's #m7818 as a base and made a quick toile for fitting. Had to widen & shorten the sleeve, as well as create a new piece for a standing collar (his request). Day 28 of quarantine: My Contemporary Tailoring class has been meeting via Zoom For the last couple weeks and will continue online for the rest of the semester. It’s a little weird since it’s such a hands on class, but it has been working! . So this is my progress on my blazer: fashion fabric cut out, interfacings applied, markings transferred, thread traced, and pin basted together. Slowly but surely it’s coming together! By the time this class (and this jacket) is done it’ll be close to summer time which means I prob won’t be able to wear it till winter.
