Bra making! My goal for the autumn was to learn to sew bras (or bralettes) and here we are! I’ve made four pairs of bralettes and I love them all. I’ve also enjoyed the sewing processes, everything’s a bit fiddly but comes along so quickly. The coolest thing is that now I can make bras that actually fit me, what a luxury. 1. The #s9478 by @mmadalynne . Gahhh what a gorgeous bra! The black and blue version is my wearable toile, I’m planning on making a dark green version. Everything else fits as is, but I had to take in from the cups. The blue tulle and all the notions are from @smallbobbins and the black lace is leftovers from another project. 2. This #jordybralette by @emeralderinsews was the first bra I made. I used the black tulle kit also by @emeralderinsews , so easy!! These have become my trusty everyday bra, cool cool. 3. My newest make: the #watsonbra by @clothhabit . I used a terracotta kit by @smallbobbins , the fabrics are dreamy soft but I kinda wish the cups were the same colour as the underband. The fit is really nice, I really like the longer underband. 4. This is the #josiebraandpants bralette by @mademywardrobe , but I don’t have any good pictures of it since it’s just a pile of lace when not worn. I used a kit from @mademywardrobe , such an easy way to succeed as a beginner bra maker. I really like the fit, but I might size up the next time.

J'ai aussi retiré un peu de matière sur le côté de la Basque. J'avoue avoir apprécié de ne pas utiliser les épingles et tout reste bien plat. Ce n'est certes pas très conventionnel, mais ça a fonctionné. Je m'en sors pas trop mal niveau raccords : je précise que j'ai coupé toute ma dentelle un vendredi ou samedi, je ne sais plus, entre 3 h et 5 h du matin, équipée de ma lampe frontale... J'avoue qu'à 5 h du matin, je ne voyais plus très clair... Ne me demandez pourquoi ça m'a pris de me lancer dans de la découpe de dentelle à 3 h du matin, je ne sais pas... Mon chat était dehors et peut-être que c'est plus facile de couper de la dentelle que de dormir... J'ai évoqué dans ma publication précédente le port d'un soutien-gorge : en dernière photo le #s9478 invisible sur lequel j'ai passé beaucoup de temps, mais qui m'a permis de m'entraîner à la pose de cache-armature pour les baleines (et là aussi j'ai une technique peu conventionnelle... je crois que c'est le pied à ourlet invisible que j'utilise et j'ai juste à me concentrer à faire coïncider les coutures). ✨✨✨ @mmadalynne S9478 ✨✨✨ this was just the project I needed, fun, fresh, and just enough of a challenge. Last year, I bought this stunning kit from Madalynne and I was excited to finally break into it. Madalynne kits are top notch and I’m v excited for her 12 Days of Christmas because I will surely be making more S9478’s! I love the way it looks on me - the v wire is so dramatic and easier to install than anticipated. I measured into a large band but was in between an A/B and C/D cup so I opted for the A/B Cup because I knew lots of folks had to take volume out of the cup for this pattern. Because I opted for the smaller cup size, I did not need to take any volume out of the cup. However, another common adjustment with this pattern is taking fabric from the underarm area - I removed 1.25” after basting the cups into place and testing the fit - this got it pretty close to perfect. Next time I make this bra I will remove a little volume from the cup to close the under arm area just a little bit more. Additionally, I will use a stable fabric to line the entire front band versus just the center front - I use the floating wire technique from Madalynne’s tutorial and I do love how clean it looks but I think on the stretch mesh there might just be a little too much play for my liking. I'm still sick, so that's annoying, but I managed to take pictures of my newest set - the @mmadalynne #s9478 out of this gorgeous red lace combined with @doitmywear #doitmywearhavanna. The S9478 is an S A/B cup without mods and the Havanna is a size 36 without mods - fits perfectly! 💕 I tried to capture the shimmer of the lace but that turned out to be rather difficult. In June of this year, I went to the Eras Tour in Minneapolis! I wanted to make my entire outfit but time got away from me 😵‍💫 and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to wear until I found this mesh body on dress - I knew I wanted to pair it with my favorite, most worn @mmadalynne #S9478 and if you’ve been following Madalynne for a long time or have been in the #sewinglingerie space for a minute, you’ll recognize the flocked cat mesh as Madalynne’s too! I did have to reduce the volume in the cups a bit and take some space from the underwire/cup to get my perfect fit, but I’ve been itching to make another because I seriously love this bra so much!

Newest addition: Beige Longline Set 🪶 It consists of self-drafted cups set into a 30D @emeralderinsews #blackbeautybra frame and a @doitmywear #doitmywearhavanna in size 36 😊 I hacked the bra to fit the back of the @mmadalynne #s9478 I've already worn it a lot and will have to make a few changes: - Reduce underarm gaping. Thought this was an issue bc of my elastic tension, but I've had it so often now that I realized I may have to alter the pattern 😅 - Reduce the bridge to approx 1 cm. Even though I don't have a full bust, I seem to be close set and gore tacking is a problem otherwise - I need other wires, mine are the perfect shape but somehow impair proper tacking. I had some lying around that were too big, cut them and they tacked without problem - Make the underbust 2cm bigger. I just elongated the existing line of the pattern, but it's a little snug now. I had to seriously play pattern-tetris to get everything out of this pretty lace from a @dessousinsider lace bundle. #braugust2022 Day 5: Beach / Pool This is the first, and so far only, swimsuit I have made. It’s a #barrettbralette bikini top paired with the #s9478 bikini style bottom using an @emeralderinsews swim fabric. I first tried making a swimsuit last summer, but it went quite poorly. It’s been a bit of a learning curve for me to get used to working with swim material. I tried again earlier this summer with a bit better of a game plan, and feel like it came out pretty decent for a first swimsuit. I’m hoping to continue to get more comfortable with sewing swimwear, especially since I’ve gotten a lot of lovely swim fabric this summer, like this @blackbirdfabrics one that I’m using as the background for this picture. Sliding in under the wire, this is my #bonetosew entry. I have never made an all black set, so I chose this amazing wet-look fabric I found in a Stone Harbor remnant bundle. It looks and feels amazing on! The mesh is sheer - I did not back it with anything. I used my coverstitch on the hem of the nightie, which worked really well. I’m slowly getting more comfortable with it and getting better results. The nightie is the @simplicity_creative_group x @gertie18 #s9285 modified for no lace and no slit. I added a lining to the bust for a clean neckline finish. It’s pretty a-line compared to the pattern as well. I graded it out in the waist and hips to match my measurements, but it doesn’t hug my hips and below as the image and drawings indicate, but I’m ok with that. Of note, this pattern has cup sizes! This is listed nowhere on the envelope or online, which is kind of shocking honestly. Makes for a great fit! The panty is from the Simplicity x @madalynne #s9478. I had a hard time finding the size chart on this pattern, as it’s different than most envelopes, and got mixed messages when I did ask both companies’ customer services. The front is a little narrow as well. Merry Christmas Eve! 🎅🏽🎄✨ I recently decided to tackle the #s9478 from @mmadalynne, using this festive green crushed velvet from @emeralderinsews. I’ve been a bit intimidated to try it for a while since it seemed like people oftentimes had to make lots of fit adjustments on the pattern. But seeing all of @wednesdaylingerie’s recent posts about the pattern made me finally want to give it a go! The size chart had me at a Large E/F, which felt very off to me. I decided to instead do an XS E/F for this one, since that is more in line with what my size usually is for most patterns. Overall I think I got a pretty decent fit for it being my first attempt with the pattern. I have a little too much fullness in the cups and I need a little more underarm / side boob coverage. The band fits perfectly. The bra is still fairly wearable so I’m happy about that. I’m glad I went with the XS instead of the large because I think I would have to make a lot more adjustments with the large. I’m excited to try out this pattern again with the fit adjustments i need. I didn’t have underwires on hand that fit the pattern, but the bra already feels quite supportive to me so I don’t think I really need them. I think the pattern looks a bit more intimidating than it actually is, especially with the v wire. I didn’t really reference the written instructions too much. I just referred to @mmadalynne’s video tutorial for the parts I was unsure of, like the v wire insertion. Once you get past that step, everything else is pretty straightforward in my opinion. This is an #S9478 & strappy #emberpanties set. With notions and fabrics from #madalynneintimates. The stretch mesh flock is great, but if you have a larger bust, the lining needs to be added from a material that can give great support. The original V wire didn't work for me, so i added larger V wire. I love the vibrant colors of this stretch mesh. The patterns I used are the #s9478 from @mmadalynne for the top and the #fridayfrenchcuts from @emeralderinsews for the bottems. This bikini is made of a mirrored design swimwear fabric. As soon as I saw this print I know I wanted to make a bikini out of it. Mirroring the patternpieces wasn't hard, but a lot of work. I pinned down the pattern pieces that I made in transparant paper down on the fabric and traced the outlines of the images on the fabric below. After cutting out the pieces, I put the paper pattern pieces upside down. Because the paper is transparant I can see now the mirrored design on the paper. I looked for the match of the mirrored drawling on the fabric. Pinned it down and cut the fabric. It’s been a while since I’ve had a WIP to post but here she is ✨✨✨ the @mmadalynne S9478. I wanted to try something new and exciting - though I’ve made dozens upon dozens of underwire bras, this is my first with a v wire. I was a little apprehensive about installing it but to my surprise, it was smooth sailing (so far 😬). First post for #braugust2022 for prompt 6: Gamechanger sponsored by @evielaluve Beginner bra maker here still exploring patterns and getting the fit sorted. You may have seen me post in my stories about my struggles with this #s9478 bra pattern by @mmadalynne . I toiled it using scuba and stretch mesh as per the pattern and it just fitted terribly. I finally got the cups kind of fitting right but hard to tell as there was just no support and it kept slipping up. The game changer was this time I used stable lining for the cups and front band pieces and powermesh for the back and it fits (almost) like a dream. Only thing to change is a wee bit more slash and spread on the front cup piece. Anyway, I’m pretty pleased with this effort…enough to make matching undies and sew bows on! I spent the last couple weeks hacking the @rebeccajpage #pheobepartydress into my vision for the JKV Foundation Gala. I added 5 layers of gathered pink tulle cut to roughly the same length as the satin skirt. Then after my dress form arrived I was able drape the embroidered tulle to create the high low effect while preserving the scalloped edge. It turned out just how I imagined!
