Hi, I’m Bethany, and have never participated in #memademay before, but after watching @brenebrown ‘s Netflix special on ‘Daring Greatly’, I figured, what the heck 😬 I made this dress for Easter (#v9202), the first real item I made for myself after giving birth 3 months ago. So it’s not in my pre-pregnancy size, but I’m good with that. Being pregnant gave me time to reflect on my style and wardrobe and realize that I didn’t really like a lot of what was in my closet, anyway. Lots of washed out colors and neutrals that looked good but felt all wrong for me. I spent a lot of time looking for this fabric. More time than I care to admit. I’ve known the motif since childhood of course, it’s a fairly common one in the wax print world. But then #stellajean used this cobalt shade for a dress a few years ago and I went on the hunt. The Christening outfit has started, we are getting both boys christened next Sunday and I was a bit slow getting started on my dress. My Mum made the boys matching outfits weeks ago. But I could not resist this beautiful cotton sateen from @clothofgold I cut it out yesterday and have already got the bodice put together. I bought 2.5m and it was just enough- swipe to see how close I got to the edge. I’m making vogue 9202 and I toiled the bodice last week and it just needs to come in a bit on the side seams. My empire style pattern plus another one which is not quite empire arrived today. The seller on eBay had a sale on so found this second pattern as it is lovely - technically it is a high waist dress but do live the shape. So even though have lots of things to make this one Simplicity S8875 R5 - version B - will be going to front of the queue. Eventually I plan to make it in 100% silk but will make a toile in lightweight muslin first. Same with second pattern Vogue V9202 - version D. So off to read the instructions and see if I need to find videos to learn how to make it. My learning curve has been via Reading books/blogs, YouTube videos and the 5 lessons I managed to attend at ‘ The Create Workshop’. Elizabeth who runs it is a wonderful teacher. I just wish I could have continued attending but just cannot commit to anything inside or outside my home these days. #memademay2019 Day 5 Not seen in public very often, I made this Dr Who stunt dress to go to @mtlcomiccon last year and we ended up going to Canada at Christmas. There are very few places to wear swirly Tardis, but every time I wear it I marvel at how flattering #v9202 is, I should really make a version with proper dressmaking fabric. Thumbs up to @mccallpatterncompany for making ABCD cup patterns, there wasn't a lot of fitting involved on this one. This year’s default Christmas party outfit. I made this dress last summer out of some abandoned curtain fabric. That weight is what gives it such a nice fullness in the skirt. I think this might be my favourite make to date. I finished it on the 3rd of August but it has taken me this long to get decent photos. I made it to wear to my two boys’ christening and it was really comfortable and light for what turned out to be a sunny day. The pattern is #v9202 I made a toile, which I will finish one day. I took it in at the sides probably a little too much so will ease it a little next time. I also am finding the shoulders don’t quite fit right so will need to sort those for next time. I only lined the bodice, not the skirt as well like the pattern suggested as it is definitely a summer dress and I didn’t want it too hot. The fabric is absolutely gorgeous, I saw it in @clothofgold and I literally couldn’t resist it. It’s a cotton sateen and was a joy to sew.
