Okay, so I'm getting back into doing these pattern reviews after I finish a new pattern. So for this review I'm covering is for the 18th century dress I posted this morning. So without further ado, lets dive in. Things I liked: So I love that this comes together with very basic construction methods and the directions are written well enough that a confident beginner could get through this pattern without issue. I also loved that it was designed specifically to be color blocked and it was a great way to use up coordinate yardages like my bed sheets. Things I didn't like: The top part of the pattern is designed to have a chapel train and there isn't a cutting line to make it floor length to make it Ren Faire Friendly or any bustling directions. So I had to do math to crop the train and we all know how much I love doing that LOL. Another thing I didn't like was that there wasn't a companion corset or any instruction that it s wise to make your corset first and use your corseted measurements to determine what dress size to make. All that said, it is a great pattern to get your feet wet for 18th century sewing and there is a lot of opportunity to add your own flair and overcomplicate it as you see fit. I give this pattern a 5/5 but I do recommend you take a look at a few 18th century dressmaking books and videos first before just diving in. Just realized I never took a pic of this on and since I'm wearing the skirt today I figured I'd throw on the top real quick so I didn't bother with the underpinnings and all the appropriate accessories. I made this back in March for a Ren Faire in November, I need to do some final tweaks before then but I love how this came together. Just gotta be careful not to lean over or all my charms will spill out the top 😂😂 The deep plum and gray fabric are both upcycled bed sheets and the purple lace trim is leftover from my hallowedding. I did purchase the pom poms and I dyed them using eggplant rit dye to get a similar color. I was so grateful to have several heavy-duty hook and eyes so that way it can really take the pressure to be cinched in without buckling. The pattern is McCall's 7826 and the designer is Angela Clayton. The Lady of the lakes Renaissance Faire isn't until November, but I am determined to be gorgeously fabulous this year! It feels so good to have finally finished this pattern and it just comes together beautifully. I can totally see wearing the skirt just as is independent of the upper piece. The sleeve mock-up from my last post is a mashup of my 18th century jacket block and the sleeve from the new Angela Clayton pattern. I was quite surprised to open it up and see that it included a two-piece shaped sleeve!
