@alison_sews_her_wardrobe Last night my husband and I had what has become one of my favorite date nights of the year @4daughterswinery for their Dine in the Vine! Around the full moon in the June and July they host a 10 course dinner (peep the menu we had at the end!) that uses their wines, ciders, and bourban to create the menu. It is just amazing! For the night I made another of my #makenine2024, the #s9850 from @mmadalynne x @simplicity_creative_group. This was one of the patterns that immediately went on my to make list once I saw, but needed to build up the courage and skills to make and I am so happy with how it turned out! I already want to make another with some Halloween tulle. It’s amazing have this piece that fits me so perfectly! THANKS, I MADE IT! A rare cross-post to share the first thing I’ve sewn in a second (have you HEARD that life can get busy?), the new @mmadalynne x @simplicity_creative_group bustier-inspired dress #s9850 pattern, using this dreamy-ass celestial embroidered mesh that I bought from Madalynne. (Truly the most gorgeous curation of specialty fabric out there.) I made it on Jan 1 and 2, and luckily for my toile-resistant self, it fit pretty close to perfectly with no mods to the pattern. On Jan 3, I wore it to the fabulous NYFCC awards dinner thanks to an invite from the wonderful @jhoffman6. As you can tell from my muppet-ass facial expression, I had the absolute TIMES at the party, and was more than thrilled with my lil dressy dress. Special mention and adoration to @katerbland, who screeched “DO YOU LIKE HER DRESS SHE MADE IT” at anyone who would listen and several people who wouldn’t because she was worried I wasn’t hyping myself enough. Kate: forever a real one. ❤️ (Also, please enjoy me and @chrisjrosen doing nonchalant poses, not a gd care in the world, and the fact that this was the closest to a human facial expression I had that showed the back of the dress. Also, thanks to our babysitter for letting us leave the cave for the night.) Anyway. We’re back, baby! And did I mention I MADE THIS??

It’s time to start designing my graduation gown. I’m using Simplicity pattern S9850 as a block because I didn’t want to mess around trying to draft cups. This will be my toile of the top half, I may do something cute with it later. It didn’t end up fitting so I’ve sized up and am trying again. Finally inserted the zipper and added the trim to the straps. I was so nervous about the zipper, but it actually went in very easily! 👏🏻👏🏻 this dress form is my back up… but you get the idea! Yesterday morning I finished my Simplicity #S9850 by Madalynne bustier top and last night I went to @dcfrocktails and was lucky enough to win a gift card to @mmadalynne online store!! Now I just need to decide if I want to make more bustiers or try out a new Madalynne design 🥰 This was the first successful bustier that I’ve made, and I chose this pattern because of the size range (including different cup sizes!!) as well as the free YouTube videos that Madalynne has for this pattern. The YouTube videos really helped! You can also buy all of the notions for this pattern (underwire, casing, boning, etc.) from Madalynne’s website, which I think was easier than trying to find them elsewhere. I did make a test version of the pattern before making this version, and I had to adjust the cups to remove some gaping with @katkouture1000 ‘s help. The test version followed the pattern exactly, so the back of the top was actually stretch mesh with the front made out of non-stretch denim. I altered this version so that I could use non-stretch denim for the entire bustier, and I also lined the inside (original pattern is not lined, aside from the cups). I'm back in Atlanta, taking a class with @needleandthebelle at @topstitchatl and on my way to take a class with @mmadalynne this weekend. I've been having so much fun I forgot to share with you all my @atlantafrocktails dress from May. Our theme was a Secret Garden this year. 🌸🪻🌼 It was such a great weekend, everyone did an amazing job on their garments. I saw some people I knew and met some other local sewists! I also got to see and talk with some of my sewing idols! 🤩 This dress was my first time trying to incorporate stretch mesh and under wire cups into a dress. Overall I'm super happy with how it turned out! I might make a few tweaks to the dress if I have another opportunity to wear this dress. I'm also super excited about finding a mesh zipper that matched almost perfectly! I can't wait for next year! Last night I attended my first ever #frocktails! @twincitiesfrocktails hosted a lovely party at @fultonbeer for sewists to get together in their hand made garments to spend the evening talking all things sewing, patterns, and fabric! There was delicious food and drinks, a cat walk, photo booth, photographer, raffle (I won a prize!), and swag bags!! My best friend attended with me and she wore the dress I made her two years ago that was the second thing I made when I started sewing! (see the last pic wearing the matching dresses I made us). A big big thanks to the fantastic #twincitiesfrocktails2024 crew for such a fun night. I loved being able to meet so many other sewers who share the same passion for creating hand made clothes! For the event I made another #s9850 from @mmadalynne x @simplicity_creative_group. I hacked this one to have padding in the cups, a laceup back, and a fuller, fully lined skirt! All the fabric and the little spider charms on the bodice came from etsy! I felt soooo beautiful in my dress! I love a twirly sparkly dress and this was exactly that! Plus, I always envisioned making this dress in a Halloween fabric, and it turned out just as I hoped! I'm so excited to wear it for my halloween costume this year!
