Happy Sunday shiny happy people! 🌞💖 I am super happy to finally share my new favorite lounge set, inspired yet again by my favorite band of all time, TLC. This is a combination of the True Bias patterns #ogdencami , @mccallpatterncompany #m8056 pants and #v8888 robe made out of this gorgeous Minerva Exclusive Viscose Challis print called „Heron Harmony“. I originally wanted to make the set from a silk satin like the original but I find the quality of these Viscose Challis so close to silk plus they are washable that I think this is a great alternative. As a nice finishing touch I added some piping to the pants and the robe from leftover silk in salmon colorway I had in my stash. The Ogden cami came together like a charm as always, same for the pants which I made fully French seamed to make them more durable. The robe was surprisingly easy to make as well although I tried to partially make better seam finishes by again French seaming everything. This is the perfect set in the Florida heat to chill in the morning and/or the full weekend. This #voguepatterns #v8888 robe has been a total pain in the backsides but I am thrilled it is complete...kinda! I wanted to make a summer robe for lazy mornings in the heat so I bought this pattern and planned to make it at the @craftysewandso #craftysewingcamp 2 weekends ago. The fabric is a cotton from @fabriclanduk and probably not drapey enough but I loved it. The appealing part of this pattern was the fact that the robe ties are sewn into the back seams which give a really pretty fitted look! I made the size 14 (my measurements made me an 18 but I always size down for Vogue as they come up huge). I also read reviews of the pattern and so raised the armscye and tapered the sleeves by 2 inches as they seemed to be very oversized. I am pleased with the finish. I probably should have lowered the waist an inch and also made the pockets bigger as they are too snug for my phone! Unfortunately though, the collar beat me. Despite multiple tries and unpicking, I could not form a good point at the bottom and in the end, I surrendered and replaced the collar with bias tape all of the way round to finish. I am pleased with the finished make but upset that Vogue claims that this was easy!!! The best part of this robe however, were the fab people in Sewing Room 2 and beyond who I met on my first sewing camp. The weekend was amazing and a true escape from the pandemic! These Valentines pajamas were the perfect way to use up my scraps from the dresses I made for my girls. The Ogden cami is simple and oh-so-drapey when cut on the bias. A set of luxe pyjamas to start off the year! I’m loving the pairing of the #voguepatterns #v8888 camisole top with the @evielaluve #minnietappants. The stretch satin in lush, the lace is lush and all in all I’m really stoked with this wee number. . I measured as a 16 again making this vogue pattern, maybe I just don’t have enough of a waist for it’s liking. Either way I sewed a 12 which is my regular size and it’s perfect. No alterations on the top, aside from the addition of a little bit of #applique on the hip and I split the seam here to show it off. The Minnie tap pants I made my standard alteration of removing about 5cm from the bottom edge of the side seam (both front and back) squaring it up to the waist. I find it sits better on me and works better when the fabric is less drapey. . Yes, I'm still here! Between me getting sick, my Pooh Bear getting sick, leaving one job, starting another, and 2 Snow-Mageddons herein Tennessee (yes, don't laugh! 1 inch of snow here is 15 out in the rest of the world!), I haven't done much posting. But!, I've been sewing: In all its clean, just off the drying rack & wrinkly glory, a matching silk sleep set that jumped the que. The charmeuse is from @fabricmart, which has amazing deals! You have to swim your way through all the polyester, but there are amazing gems in there, including several 100% wool suitings I've been dying for. Stay strong, Kathryn!! The robe is #v8888, which I chose for those lovely ties stitched into back pleats. I interfaced the collar by using silk organza, which accepted the fold I shaped it into with plenty of steam. The slip is #v9015, view C with modifications: I completely did away with the bizarre strap/trim/bias binding contortions and just did a simple finish of bias binding, ignored the lace finish because I had no good options on hand, took plenty off the bottom and brought in the sides quite a bit. You'd think sleeping with the shoulder straps would eventually choke in the middle of the night, but I totally forget they're there.

Quickest turnaround from getting the fabric to sewing it up! I took advantage of the 50% off sale at @wearethefabricstore yesterday and bought quite a bit of fabbiesss. 2 of them were these chocolate silks - a Georgette and a plain weave sheer silk - I think it’s chiffon. I had plans to make the #v8888 view E nightie. This was SO satisfying to sew and it wasn’t stressful at all - unlike my other experience with silk!! I was so so glad that it came together within 4 hours including cutting out! I actually think it’s good enough to wear out - be honest, what are your thoughts?

New project, just a quick make before moving on to something more complicated. Drafted this shawl collar robe from my tailoring book and a pattern block from Pattern Lab London. Its a similar look to Vogue #v8888, which is an older pattern that I believe is out if print. I adore shawl collars and it’s been a long time since I made a robe like this. According to the book, circa 1939, round shouldered individuals like myself benefit from small pin tucks on the center back neck for a better fit. The armhole has been lowered 1/2” and the shoulder seam reduced 1/4” at the sleeve for closer fit to my rounded shoulders. So far it’s working well! Sleeves are next, I have a bit of repurposed lace to add for some feminine detailing, I imagine myself having morning coffee in my new robe very soon! Satisfying morning here, my favorite coffee is ready and so is my new robe! Linen is so luxurious feeling ( from Fashion Fabric Warehouse I think), this robe is my all time favorite robe and I will definitely make it again! 😁 This pattern draft worked perfectly for me, but you can also use Vogue #V8888 for a similar robe ( I dont think it has a bust dart like my robe). 🤓 ✅I figured out the sleeve problem, shortened them a bit and moved the lace up so the lace visually aligns with the pockets. Much better! The pockets are oversized which I adore! Lace is from France, I bought it several years ago at a quilt show and the scraps were just the right size for this project. ✅ Pintucks are the bomb and I don’t know why I have never made them before! 🤣. ✅Perfectionism got the best of me and I took the shoulders in 1/2” on each side for a better fit. I am happy with it, and now notice when shoulders are too large on every single tv show I watch. 🤪 Its a curse! I am reminded of a couple more unfinished projects I should finish next, but not sure where my inspiration will come from just yet. Happy Sewing y’all!

My second (and last for now) lingerie set. 🌹🌹🌹 Again using V8888 but this time using my newly acquired skills in doing appliqué lace. 😅 it was fun!!! And, to work around the lace not being as deep as the pattern called for some of you will have seen that I managed somehow to sew the front yoke using the burrito method! Double new skill usage! 💪🏽💪🏽 ✂️ couldn’t help but tweak the pattern of course. 😇 1. Slightly shaped the bodice to create a softer line 2. Made the straps narrower and crossing over at the back 3. A rolled hem 4. Doing the back elastic in what I thought was a neater way 4. Making the ‘panties’ (that word makes me giggle - tee hee 🙊) more like shorts by lengthening the body section and making the legs longer Darcy is such a show off isn’t she! Progress update on my 1939 version of a classic shawl collar robe. ( Vogue #V8888 is very similar). Linen is so fun to sew, it shapes so nicely and has that crisp finish. The body of the robe is finished, here’s what I have learned: ✅ Love the pin tucks at the back neck and sleeves! Definitely a great way to fit my rounded upper back as the book suggested. 😀 I will use that technique again in the future! ✅ The shoulders are still a tiny bit too wide, i am deciding if its worth the trouble to fix it or just make a note for my next project to fix it later.🧐 I am lazy. ✅ I used fusible interfacing for the collar, bad decision as it is already peeling off.😩 Uggh! I hate fusible interfacing, I even preshrunk it as directed but its just a lousy product and doesn’t hold up. Never again! 😬 Anyone else hate fusibles? ✅ Not quite happy with the lace sleeves and can’t quite decide what needs to happen, but I think I will adjust them a little bit more. 😳 Just a bit of hand sewing and pressing left to complete this project. I am tempted to whip up a pretty night gown too, we will see! 😜 Tips for sewing a quality robe: 1. High end fabric. Choose linen, fine cotton, silk, fine wool or velvet. You won’t regret it and it will last so much longer than cheap fabric. 2. Add belt carriers, big pockets, inside ties, a hanger loop at the back neck, all quality features cheap lingerie lacks. 3. A bit of lace, contrast piping or hand embroidery will elevate your project to the next level. Coffee in the morning will be so much fun with a beautiful robe to wear!

Pattern #v8888 I cut a straight size 10 for the camisole and a size 12 for the panties Next time I’d cut a size 14 back for the panties as they are a little snug. Really delighted with the set. When there’s a Taylor swift dance party, you show up at midnight 🕰️ I used Vogue #v8888 for my lavender haze-inspired outfit (my muse is on the second slide 💜). I’ve never used a Vogue pattern before, and while this was an easy project the instructions were sparse! The picture on the packet showed more complicated finishes like adjustable straps but didn’t mention the notions I needed to do them so I just took the easy out and sewed them down. I think the fit was good (maybe a bit revealing for me but it is meant to be a night gown!) but adjusting the straps would have made it better. I sewed on more lace than it recommended and considered doing lace cut outs on the hem, but I ran out of time. I also wasn’t sure if it would mess up the bias cut, but next time I’ll experiment a bit more.

I have now sewn three sets of pajamas during quarantine, but these by far are the most luxe ✨ in 100% silk. Something about staying home all the time really inspired me to up my sleepwear 😆. I enjoyed the slow process of making these: hand cutting out the lace appliqués, stitching them together, hand basting them on to the lace, french seams etc...
