Another Simplicity #s8014. I made a make-nine this year to prevent myself from sewing the same pattern over and over again. But s8014 was the second ‘new’ pattern and now I find myself repeating this pattern several times in the last months. This time I used a light pink linen from #driessenstoffen. Buttons are Milward, bought by #budgetstoffen. I worn this dress already today and I’m sure it’ll be a new favorite! ❤️

A few more of the Rust Cord dress… I finished sewing on the buttons on this dress a whole hour before wearing it to get on a train to go to a London.. which given I’m usually finishing things *on the way* to the event I feel like this is growth 😆 . And wow London was showing off today with gorgeous bright sunshine and warmth in the air .. ideal for a bit of showing off of the new frock. I call these poses “looking for something I’ve dropped..” . Taking the dress apart to shorten the top skirt and put both tiers on was the right decision. It feels fab to wear and I adore the colour. The corduroy reflects the light a bit like velvet so the colour really pops. . MeMadeMay day 25: the shirtdress I made just before Easter is also perfect for the last Sunday of may. I found a lacetop in my closet that matches the color perfectly, so I added that for a little lace detail. And I have to admit I love pockets. Until about 1,5 years ago, none of my dresses had pockets. But I missed them especially in my summerdresses. I always had to take a bag with me for my key and ID. So I gave all my dresses 1 pocket on the right side. Until I made this dress.. 1 pocket seemed weird to me, because you can see them through the skirt. And now… all the dresses after this one have pockets on both sides 😄 Have a lovely Sunday! #s8014 in a linen blend view B but with view A collar and sleeves. I did lengthen the dress to a midi length. 1” round back adjustment and 3.5 “ fba. I used sew on snaps instead of buttons😐. I had to roll in the cuffs because the sleeves were too long even after removing 3” I figure after narrowing the shoulders it will be the right length for next time☺️ I thought the pockets were too small for me will use cashmerettes pockets instead. The collar was too big for the collar stand so I had to trim it down a bit. I would go down a size for a closer fit next time. Another version of my current fave shirt dress pattern! This fabric is basically my dream fabric, 4 neons in a seersucker? I bought 6 meters so there will be future things made as well (Shirt? Shorts? Another dress? Idk, let me know what you think I should make?) The neons aren’t super bright, and my blacklight is currently missing, but once I locate it I will be confirming whether they are true fluorescent neons 🤣 Feeling sooo good about the details of this one - the bias cut outer yoke and front pockets, OH AND THE ENTIRE THING IS FRENCH SEAMED except for the seams that, you know, were already enclosed (yoke and hems). I feel like this is a solid representation of my sewing skills and I’m so proud of it! There is only one SLIGHT flaw/mistake with pattern matching at the waist, conveniently hidden by the belt. You literally can’t even see it, and I’m only mentioning it because I do strive for perfection in my sewing, while also recognizing it is not actually attainable. I think about this idea often, and its one of my favorite things about sewing - aiming for perfection and still making silly mistakes and being OK with them (sort of) and being proud that I am literally designing the wardrobe of my dreams, one garment at a time. Day 11 #memademay2025 Today David and I headed into Edinburgh for brunch. I wore the dress I made last summer for Matthew’s birthday. I’ve had so much wear out of this dress and I enjoy wearing it. It was a mash up of #s8014 and self drafted. The details of my make: 1. Bodice is #simplicity8014 from @simplicitymccallsuk however I sewed front and back bodice darts rather than the pleats on the pattern. 2. Sparkle denim shirt dress! This denim is a super dark indigo color with metallic threads woven through it. It’s sparkly in the right light, but it’s subtle. Should have taken a video, but trust me, it’s sparkly! I flat felled almost all the seams, even the side seams with in seam pockets, using a tutorial from @notches_sewing, which took forever! but the result was worth it. Oh yes oh yes oh yes it is AUTUMN 🍂 it is Windy it is BRISK and it is time for my large collection of pumpkin and mushroom jewellery to appear. This dress is a mashup of the bodice of #b6702 and the skirt of #s8014 a, with the bodice front extended on the bodice to be a self button band. The fabric is Ankara in feuille de papaye, or papaya leaves, but I think they look enough like generic Autumn Leaves to fool anyone in the uk! I added half an inch at the waist on each skirt side seam and then brought the hem out two and a half inches for a bit more circle, and made the pockets deeper. The fabric was very narrow so had to cut the skirt pieces with the fabric open and the back is seamed together rather than on the fold. DE ⬇️ The @simplicitymaccallsuk #s8014 pattern has been on my shelf for years. Now the perfect fabric came along, and it is a really interesting one. This @minervadotcom exclusive hemp (!) and cotton blend is a stunner - I immediately fell for the lovely floral print and those gorgeous colours. The texture is that of a light to medium weight denim fabric so I thought it would be perfect for the #simplicity8014 because the pattern is recommended for denims. I made view A and shortened it a little (thanks for helping me with that decision!). I love the fit of it, just the sleeve cuffs are way too wide for me. Anyway I already wore this quite a few times and I love it - the fabric is crease resistant which is so awesome! 🥰🥰 DE Dieser Schnitt, Simplicity 8014 von @simplicitymccallsuk steht seit Jahren bei mir im Regal. Ein Hemdblusenkleid für Jeansstoffe, mega gut. Endlich hab ich den perfekten Stoff dafür gefunden, und zwar eine Hanf-Baumwoll-Mischung von @minervadotcom . Der Print und die Farben sind einfach nur wunderschön und der Stoff ist wie ein leichter bis mittlerer Denim von der Schwere her, deswegen fand ich ihn perfekt für den Schnitt. 🇳🇱⬇️ Okay… the last day of April is a little late to post a #makenine to say the least 🫣 but because late is better than never, I present my make nine of 2025. My first make nine and I’m excited! 😊 I want to sew more new patterns, instead of quick tried-and-true patterns. I would love to have more variations in the dresses (you will see in memademay I have sewn the same dresses over and over again). So without further ado: 1&2: #v8925 and #s8014 are two patterns I really wanted to make. 3: a birthdaydress. Could be this pattern, could be another. I’m visioning a beautiful blue viscose satin… 4: a coat. I’ve some coat-fabrics in my stash and really wanted to use at least one 5: a short jacket. 2024 sewing round up!! Really proud of the new skills I have learnt this year including: buttons/buttonholes, invisible zippers and serging. Every single item I make is from thrifted, secondhand fabrics, because there is PLENTY of cloth in the world and we don’t need to be producing more! I’ve used bedsheets, curtains, blankets and tablecloths. Patterns/details 1: self drafted full circle skirt. Fabric is thrifted Ikea 100% cotton paisley duvet cover 2. Simplicity #s8014 dress. Fabric is thrifted vintage JC Penney flannel bedsheet. Suede boots thrifted 3. Top is Simplicity #s9791. Fabric is thrifted paisley cotton tablecloth. Jeans are new from River Island (one of the only new purchases made this year) 4. Simplicity #s9759 pullover. Fabric is a thrifted camouflage quilt. Cowboy boots are thrifted Durango 5. Self drafted mash up of Simplicity #s9749. Fabric is a thrifted tablecloth. 6. Self drafted jacket made from a thrifted (damaged) quilt #quiltjacket. I selected the areas that were the least damaged and fixed up any holes. 7. Simplicity #s9896 jacket. Fabric is a vintage wool blanket and scrap black and white checked cotton from pyjama pants. This was murder to make 😂. 8. Simplicity #s9327 dress. Fabric is thrifted white cotton bedsheet. LOVED this pattern. Had to do an #fba to accommodate my tiddies. Belt is thrifted. 9. McCalls #m7950 dress. Fabric is thrifted Waverley cotton curtains. I’m obsessed with this dress and wear it all the time in summer. Cowboy boots are thrifted. 10. Vogue #v1994 jumpsuit. Fabric is thrifted cotton canvas. I use this mainly for gardening. Or if I need to be a Ghostbuster. 11. McCalls #m7937 top. Fabric is thrifted Cotton pillowcase. There’s an udders joke here somewhere! Jeans are also new River Island (I bought 4 pairs in different colours because they fit amazing and I will wear them forever) 12. McCalls #m8343 coat. Fabric is a 100% wool thrifted vintage Hudson’s Bay blanket. It is also lined and SO warm. 13. Simplicity S9692 coat. Made from a thrifted wool blanket and leftover sherpa fabric. Quilted lining with vintage cotton fabric. This is probably the best thing i’ve ever made. I wear it all the time.

Here’s my easterdress again… on me 😊 I love the details and the effort put in it. Some extra work to make the hem look smooth, the fact you don’t see the fastenings of the buttons on the other side, the handfinishing on the neckband and the cuffs and the French seam on the inside of the sleeve, so they can be rolled up nicely if needed. 😍 in these cases it’s worth to put in the extra effort! …. Hier is mijn paasjurk nog een keer… aan 😊 Ik geniet van de details en van het werk wat erin is gestopt. Wat extra moeite om de zoom er netjes uit te laten zien, het feit dat je de bevestiging van de knoopjes niet ziet aan de binnenkant, de afwerking met de hand van de staander en de manchetten en de Franse naad aan de binnenkant van de mouw zodat het er ook netjes uitziet als je die op wilt rollen. 😍 in deze gevallen is de extra moeite het zeker waard! Spring is here (for now), and I’m celebrating with a brand-new make! ☀️✨ It hit a balmy 60 degrees in Cleveland today, which means it’s time to pull out my latest dress from the #thingscaitmade spring collection! This is @simplicity_creative_group #S8014 – the classic #shirtdress. I made View D because I was a little short on fabric, but honestly, I love how it turned out! This incredible retro quilting cotton softened up beautifully after a couple of washes, and I will always have a soft spot for a good quilting cotton. The directions were easy to follow, and I even lined the yoke using the #burritomethod (such a satisfying technique!). Next time, I want to try it with a fuller skirt—I don’t love the shortness of this version (and I’m short!). Also, I’ve learned that anything with buttons is better a little looser on the bottom rather than too fitted. I might add a button to the very bottom for extra coverage—because as a teacher constantly moving around, I prefer to focus on my students rather than worrying about wardrobe malfunctions! I still need to finish the fabric belt, but I just couldn’t wait another day to wear this dress. Happy spring! Happy sunshine! Happy new dress! My top nine for 2021. Some well worn items here as well as a few surprises. My @megannielsenpatterns #mndarlingranges dress was top. Both of my @fridaypatterncompany #wildergowntop made the list. My most complimented dress #m8085 has been worn a lot. My @tessutifabrics #londoncoat got heaps of wear in winter and helped me stand out in the sea of black. I finally finished the @sewaholic blouse after it took me 2.5 years to do the button holes and it has been a welcome addition to my work wardrobe. My recent @patternemporium_kate Meet You There dress has already been worn a number of times, including Christmas day. I have already made a top version and have another dress planned. The #s8014 was given away as it was a toilet that didn't fit and had terrible pattern placement. The #soiluciatop was made a number of years ago and reposted as part of a competition. Thank you to everyone who follows me, likes my terribly photographed makes and provides advice, spot and nice comments. It is appreciated.
