I used a black linen that I had in my stash for the lining, metal snaps for closure. I think it works! I sewed the size 16 and graded at the hips to get a bit of oversize fit. A new week a new jacket ❤️ I finished up my toile of Know Me 2058 this weekend and it was a bit of a ride! The pattern is fantastic it was me. I used a heavy fleece for this version and chose a plaid where it is now blue. I kept looking at the plaid and not loving it so picked that all out and replaced with a scrap of blue wool I had. Chose not to put zippered welt pockets in and instead put side seam pockets for an easier option. The snaps in the layers of heavy fleece was another challenge and I have no nails left 😂😂 I loved the version on the pattern envelope with the Merchant and Mills fabric and this was my toile to make sure I loved it first. It is a fun asymmetrical design with the color blocking and I made a #georgiaturtleneck in a blue sweater knit and a slouch beanie to go with it. Now let’s see if I make this again! One pattern, two ways✌🏽 I don’t often sew gifts, but when I do, I guess they’re coats! How cute is my dear friend @mccalllll in the coat from my #ME2058 sewalong tutorial? Made especially for her in wool coating and gold dritz snaps on both. These two versions were made flipped and reflect each other! I’m in ❤️ with this coat! She is warm and cozy for this season. 🥰 I used tan and burgundy corduroy from my stash and this burgundy/dark tan like plaid called Chestnut from Loomcraft Plaid by Robert Kaufman that I picked up locally from @threelittlebirds.sewingco It’s 100% cotton and so warm like a thick blanket. Hey y’all!! I made Norris pattern into a sleeveless romper with an open back shirt. I made the black pant to go with Julian’s top. I made Ella’s coat and it was almost done until I tried it on and couldn’t fit it lol 😂I THOUGHT I WAS SMALLER THAN I AM LOL so I took it apart and changed the seam allowance and I can fit a lot better. This is probably one of the more complex makes I've made, due to all the contrasting triangular bits. I've decided to just use two colours, navy, and the green with navy leaves. The green with navy leaves is a chopped up shop-bought dress that didn't fit me very well, but I loved the fabric. The navy fabric was bought from Fabric Land in Kingston upon Thames to match the colour of the leaves. The zips aren't perfect, but they do get covered up by the welt pockets luckily. Not too bad for my first ever zips though. Pattern Hacking for Menswear ✍🏽 Heres my baby brother in his one and only HM original, my #ME2058 pattern coat as a Christmas present! Adapting this women’s pattern for men was simple really: ⚪️I chose a size the way I always do for Big 5 patterns - by looking at the finished garment measurements on the instructions/ envelope and comparing to my brothers measurements - choosing the right size based on the amount of ease (space for movement) I wanted. This one was a size 16. ⚪️ This was my first time trying this hack, so I whipped up a quick practice garment with a basting stitch to check fit ⚪️ I noticed the neckline was tight- this makes sense as John’s shoulders are pretty broad. We ended up taking 3/4in width out of the neckline of the coat pieces, lining, and front facing. Pretty simple. I also added 2in sleeve length and made the cropped view with 4 extra in length removed for his desired length. ⚪️ This coat is fully lined with snaps and zippered welt pockets. It’s also done up in just 2 colors instead of 3 and with added hood from #ME2057 pattern! ⚪️Fabric is deadstock wool coating from my favorite @stonemountainfabric 💗 Sewed up like normal and fit like a glove! 2025’s making goals are less about “ooh, pretty,” and more about making items that I’ll wear regularly. As much as I love pretty prints and dresses, my closet space is much more limited and I need more items I can wear to the office than hanging around at home For this year’s make 9, I want to create garments that I’ll get a lot of use out of while also developing my knitting and sewing skills. For hand knits, that means tees I can wear to work while practicing lace, cables, and colorwork. For sewing, it’s pants, unlocking the secret to a bust-friendly wrap dress, a midweight jacket nicer than my shacket or Columbia fleece to wear to work events, and overcoming the mental block around knitwear, especially swim. Not included in my make 9, but something I want to learn is short row bust darts and embroidery, and I want to connect with other makers in Philly 🧶 Knits 1. //Make 31// ME2058 Coat First foray into coat making! Honestly, coats scared me before this project. They seemed complicated and hard. But then I was influenced by @handmademillennial’s encouraging post and decided this year was the year to tackle one. I fell in love with her funky, colorblock pattern and her quilted coat sample so much I knew I wanted to make a similar version. The pattern is excellent but the written instructions weren’t quite enough detail for me, a coat newbie, to follow. Thankfully she has a great sew along tutorial that filled in the gaps in my understanding. The hardest part of this project was battling my own indecision and errors re: modifications! I wanted to make a hip length coat so I shortened all of the front and back pieces, shifting up the color blocking so more would be visible. (Did I forget to shorten the lining? Yep.) I waffled between welt pockets, patch pockets, and inseam pockets, cutting out and experimenting with each version. I tore apart and recut out the upper front pieces after realizing I forgot to do a small bust adjustment. (Worth it!) Is it a great idea to make so many edits on your first go round with a pattern? Nope. But I love how it eventually turned out! Mods - Shortened the coat body by 5”, shifted up the color blocking by 1.5-2” - Lengthened the sleeves by 1” - Made a very unofficial 1.5” small bust adjustment - Self drafted (pattern matched!) patch pockets - Took 1/2 in out of the side and arm seams to take in the width. Next time I’d cut a smaller size as I think this is still a bit too wide for my frame. #me2058 #memade #millennialsewing #sewing #imadethis
