I sewed something! It feels good to be creative again. This is Vogue 1912, a #rachelcomey pattern of her Melody top. I did a couple of modifications to make it more like men’s shirting and less like workwear, and I’m happy with how it turned out. This pattern is so oversized though—I think the key with this one is to use a drapey fabric so it’s not overwhelming when worn. I sized down two sizes from the size chart and there is still 21 inches of ease in the bust. 😆 Pattern: #v1912 #vogue1562 Fabric: a cotton/linen blend from Joanne’s? Alterations: shortened by one inch (I’m 5’6”); I should have shortened the sleeves by two inches but I will just roll the cuffs instead Modifications: eliminated the center front seam, invisible zipper instead of exposed zipper, lined cuffs with muslin instead of interfacing, and used a few different seam finishing techniques Like I told my family, it’s quirky and casual, just like me, so I’m happy with it. 😊

Sooo... I kinda got side tracked and went ahead and made those shorts I got all excited about in pant form. 😏 Shout out to @alexpost for the encouragement and advice lol. #v1912 #vougepatterns . All I did was extend the hem on the shorts pattern straight down to my appropriate length, which gave me this lovely wide leg effect. My waist was a bit smaller so I fitted the waistband to my size and eased/gathered the pant to fit, which is why you see some gathering at the waist rather than completely flat, which suits me just fine because it accommodates my rear end and my belly. The snaps are supposed to snap over toward the back but yeah lol that didn't happen🙃 The fabric? I think was from #fabricland it's a thin jean which feels and looks like a sheen treated cotton very soft and light weight. (was deep in the stash) Okay ...what's next? Two Vogue by Rachel Comey patterns #v1912 and #v1821. Loved the patterns, although photo setup in my house is not ideal to show. Lengthened the dress by 3”. Shortened the cuff on the sweater by 2”. Stripes courtesy of some table runners from a set sale. Considering making the sweater short set in another fabric as well, the shorts are very comfortable. Would also make the dress again. Rough post, but glad to show my face on here again and remember how to do this 😂

A closer look at new top and shorts sewing pattern #V1912 designed by @rachelcomey for Vogue Patterns. These are Rachel’s original samples of her “Melody” top and “Handy” shorts in soft cotton twill. Very loose-fitting pullover top has dropped shoulders, funnel neckline, long sleeves pleated into cuffs, back zipper, and shaped hemline. A couple months ago I came across Vogue x Rachel Comey #v1912 envelope and had a feeling the shorts would be cute… and I was right! 😝 I made size 14 and they are a little loose for me (my waist and hips are 30” and 40”) but it does make for a pretty comfy fit. The one mod I made is turning the straight waistband into a curved one (thanks for the tut @jessilous_closet 🥰) and I definitely recommend you do the same! The rise comes just past my belly button. One thing I highly do NOT recommend is following the instructions — save yourself and find a better side zipper tutorial. My experience with making the Helene jeans came in very handy for the construction in general. I ended up using 10 oz natural bull denim from @pacificbluedenims, which is probably a little heavier than the pattern is designed for; for my next pair, I’m planning to make the bottom of the pockets fully out of pocket bag fabric instead of just one side of the lining if I use this weight of material again. I also used a hook and eye closure instead of a button for a cleaner look.

I do realize that this #v1912 #vougepatterns is like looking at wet paint dry 🤭😏 but if you look deeper you will see that the beauty is in the details. A pattern made for woven fabric that looks like a sweater? Omg the possibilities.. 😍 Then there is the zipper in the back that can be moved anywhere actually or styled in so many ways, I put mine in the front ( don't want to reach to put my clothes on). Pleated cuffed sleeves and shaping darts in the back shoulder? Ugh lovely So then I was like, wait🤪 I can make a nice warm sweater out of wool or in my case corduroy or if I'm careful, use a thick knit fabric or cable knit!! I know it doesn't take much right? ...But this really excited me. Then there's the shorts I can't wait to make those, long or short ....just look at the back pockets!! So cool. Anyways I think this is a good pattern for Winter don't be intimidated by the advanced rating it really wasn't difficult. Next??
