The last of piece of my snake inspired lingerie capsule - a @mmadalynne @simplicity_creative_group #s9729 slip using stunning serpent lace from @mmadalynne and fluid stretch silk from @wearethefabricstore . I challenged myself with this - using French seams (not necessarily using them well, but you have to start somewhere) and practicing the technique of lace insertion . I took the @mmadalynne lace insertion online class which was so good at walking through the steps . Lots of patience was required for this make ! I had to have this vintage deadstock Frederick’s of Hollywood kit as soon as @mmadalynne posted about them. Big nostalgia vibes! I remember being in high school and casually walking by the Frederick’s store in the mall to look at the “ naughty” lingerie LOL. The only thing I would have done differently with this fabric would be to have used a hot knife to cut the hem so no hand stitching would have been needed. This is a @mmadalynne #Simplicity9729 in a handkerchief linen from @fabricsstorecom. Lace for the trim is a 2” wide stretch lace trim that I found on Amazon. I wanted to make my first slip from some stable fabric that I could also sleep in and this linen was the perfect candidate. Fitting Details: My measurements put me in a size S for the bust, M for the waist and L for the hips. I was thrilled to find pattern markings for the bust point, waist and hip which made it easier to grade and check placement on myself. After making a mockup of just the bodice, removed 1/2” at the top of the bodice pieces in both the front and the back. I love everything about this make except for the stitching in the front. I’ll have to work on getting the perfect V for the next one. #s9729

My goal this summer was to make my way through my WIP pile. This slip was one of them. The lace insertion and felled seams along the lace and bodice-skirt junction were all done by hand. This took 30+ hours despite the relatively simple construction just because the seam finishing was so intricate. I love this garment so much!! One of my favorite dresses needed a slip, so dug through my supplies and made #S9729 by @madalynne_instalingerie for @simplicity_creative_group using stuff I already had on hand. Now I can see the possibilities are endless … I just purchased Madalynne’s lace insertion class and I can’t wait to give that technique a try . Happy New Year! This is my first sewing project for 2024 and turned out to be my best make yet! This make was 100% inspired by @mmadalynne quilted slip dress. Here's my take. I made this as a pinafore dress for the colder season so I can wear layers underneath. This is fully reversible and some hand sewing was necessary but totally worth it. I love both sides and cannot choose my favorite side. Pattern is #S9729 #simplicity9729 Made size M. Lengthen skirt by 6". I washed in hot water and dried in high heat but it did not shrink as much as I expected so I took in at bust about 1/2". Fabrics: Black Essex cotton linen from Robert Kaufman and Skeletons of the sea cotton by @alexanderhenryfabrics Batting is Warm & natural. Edit--- Worn with my gray #seamworkastoria by @seamwork underneath the black side. This top is a perfect layer piece and this made me want to make this pinafore dress. Also worn #tamarackjacket by @grainlinestudio over the skeleton mermaid side. Double quilt 🥂
