Another choice from my #makenine2024 It's the McCalls M8325 version A. I'd seen this way back last year on another account and just loved the honeycomb detail on the front. I used 100% cotton fabric that I've had in my stash since I started dressmaking, unfortunately the company is no longer trading. I made a straight size medium with no modifications. I added some pink Ric rak to the hem line because why not?! After making quite a few things from the Big 4 pattern companies I definitely prefer the indie patterns as the instructions & illustrations are so much clearer to follow, that being said I will definitely make another of these but with a different sleeve option. March 9: 🤡 Clown core 🤡 Today’s clown core prompt from the #wanawmarchallenge seemed like a good day to debut #m8325. This pattern has lots of fun, clown-like details with the sleeve ruffle and faux honeycomb smocking. I made a size six and used larger seam allowance to make it a bit less voluminous. I also used binding on the neckline instead of the facing included in the pattern. This liberty Tana lawn is great for lovely, crisp details, but a bit more yellowy than I’d like. I recently washed it with some pink linen that I know had loose dye and will try another wash cycle to get a bit more of a pink tint on it. #mccalls8325 #clowncore #smocking

🍯 Smocking Process 🍯 A few pics of the (correct) process of making this big bang for little buck honeycomb smock top. My best tip is to use the pilot frixion pen to mark all the lines and sewing lines which will iron off after you’ve sewn those delicious pin tucks. Honeycomb Smocking 🍯 Despite my refusal to properly read the instructions until I’d well and truly mucked this up, this delightful #mccallspatterns is a much easier sew than those honeycomb smocking stitches might have you believe. This is a Level 3 ‘Learn to Sew’ pattern from @simplicity_creative_group and includes both pintucks and smocking options and three different sleeve variations. Finally finished! #m8325 heavily hacked to remove the 7 months pregnant look. I had to cut the yoke with the tucks/smocking off from my the lower bodice and removed 5.5 inches from the fold line edge. Then I sewed the yoke to the lower bodice and treated it like one piece to finish sewing it up. I also straightened out the shoulder ruffle because all of the curved shoulder ruffles I have sewn in the past lay wonky and kinda ugly. I also cut the back bodice on the fold, replaced facings with bias tape to match and did a keyhole neck opening. Everything was done with french seams and my serger did a wonderful job with a 3 thread rolled picot hem on the sleeve ruffles. I think it turned out great in this Swiss dot cotton 💗 I’m surprised this is a learn to sew pattern. The directions for the smocking didn’t make any sense to me so I just played with the tucks to get some kind of honeycomb look. I think I will get a bunch of wear out of this top that is perfect for summer weather!

McCall pattern #M8325 originally as a blouse, but I preferred to turn it into a dress ( as usual ) with my own modifications regarding sleeves and “mocked” scalloped hem, also enlarged neck opening to be able to put the dress over the head. First time for frontal decorative feature, not as suggested in description, but a different interpretation. Cut it size too big, but managed to fix it anyway, by stitching 3 parallel lines on both sides and 2 additional ones horizontally to adjust the length. This one’s been in the project pile for months! I’m fairly certain I cut and sewed up the pin tucked panel in a COVID rage back in May this year 🤭 It sat abandoned for months - It was after discussion and encouragement from @sew.n.steady that had me reaching for it again, and finally motivated me to finish it - so thank you! I’ll be honest, when @katelkeith suggested I looked a little like I was auditioning for the angel in the Christmas play, I was a little discouraged 😆 However, I always admire her honesty - and Im still here for that angel sleeve energy!!! You guys loved the close-up I shared of my @simplicitymccallsuk #M8325, so here is the top in full! 🧡 This is a pattern with two contrasting phases of construction - the pleated panel offers an interesting and challenging experience, but sewing the rest of the top is easy peasy and very speedy! ☄️ I made a combination of view A with the sleeves from view B and sized down from the M to the S - I'm glad I did, as there is plenty of ease. ⛺️ I wore my top to teach a workshop last week and it's super comfy as well as smart - I can see it being a favourite in my wardrobe during the warmer weather! 🌅

🌷🌱🌺 Did I manifest spring? 🌺🌱🌷 My first make for 2025 is fresh off the sewing machine, and as if by magic, the sunshine is gloriously flooding London (it's been so long) 🌞 I have had a pleated tie front top on my sewing wishlist since @miasartyfarty from #sewingbee made hers 💕 it was most likely put off out of fear of ALL THOSE PLEATS! In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the tuck process, although I definitely did not accurately worry about perfectly straight lines 🙃 I've also had this fabric in my stash for ages (a vintage Laura Ashley cotton stolen from mum) and was worried it would be a bit pale for me 💖 I am chuffed with the results of this and the pink bows are, in my opinion, the chef kiss moment 👌🏼 thanks mum for the idea 😅 As for the pleats, the main thing is it took forever! The fabric also shrunk more than I expected, so I did have to insert a little extra strip 🫠 I also altered the neck line to be a bit lower, altered the back piece to be a tie front which in turn meant drafting new interfacing and lengthened all the pleats to the waist line 😅 it's been a journey for sure 🙃 🌷 I can't wait to wear this - perhaps a trip to a florist is mandatory while wearing it 🌷 Pattern: a very altered #m8325 #mccalls8335 Fabric: Vintage Laura Ashley cotton

This is my entry in the #sewaprilblouse24 hosted by @cloth_edit and @theyorkshiresewgirl . Pattern is McCalls #m8325. Fabric from @spotlightstores The first attempt was a blowout. Way too big, couldn't work out how to pattern the pintucks. I decided not to have ruffles so I went with plain sleeves,but I did add a tiny embroidered flower to each of the points of the honeycomb structure in white so as they're not too obvious and found an old button from my stash,made the button hole with embroidery thread and that's it. Phew... That was a busy few weekends' work! First time making anything from a fabric so fine, this gorgeous silk from @wearethefabricstore. After a much easier toile finished a fortnight ago I thought I'd try this challenge! I'm super chuffed with the result even though it was a slow, slow make due to the challenge of the fabric. This is the McCalls M8325 but I made some modifications after my toile. The pattern has the pin tucks finishing above the bust but it just looked too much like a five year old's top! So I made the tucks 12cm longer, and made the Type C sleeves but extended them to wrist length. I also made my own bias binding for the first time to finish the neck rather than try a facing that you'd see, which was not fun in slippery chiffon. Plus I french seamed the whole thing, even the curvy armholes, so that was an adventure. It's super see-through so is going to be an interesting one to figure out how to wear!
