I tried to start my next sewing project this afternoon. I have ironed the fabric (from @stitch_fabric1 ) and pattern pieces (#voguepatterns #v1859) but I’m now melting with today’s heat 🥵 The shoulders look very wide so I think I’m going to toile the bodice and maybe narrow them. Usually I make a size 10 bodice in modern vogue patterns but my measurements always put me at a 12 A cup which in this case looks a better match so I’ll be able to check that too. I also didn’t realise (because I didn’t read the back of the envelope properly) that there is a contrast fabric used for the placket so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to squeeze that out of the main fabric yardage instead. I am also thinking about making it fasten at the front rather than the side but not sure about adding buttons - poppers perhaps? 🤔

I decided just to fold 1/2” out of the front and back bodice to narrow the shoulder and deal with the excess fabric in the back. I managed to get all the pieces-contrast and lining - out of 2m of fabric but I didn’t think about the pattern placement so I’ve got a partial repeat across the front bodice which is a little annoying. I’ve made a bit of progress but the armbands are quite tricky to set in now they are interfaced do I’m having a break before doing the second one. #v1859 #voguepatterns #imakemyownclothes #imakemyclothes

Three broken needles, two muslins, and one sewn through finger; we now have piping! Used flat felled French seams on this #V1859 @rachelcomey pattern. My latest make and currently my favourite dress. . Bought both fabrics in a lucky dip bundle from @dalston.mill.fabrics last summer. Loved the hot pink - the green was a yucky jade so dyed it with some indigo blue dye I had in the cupboard. Quite like the new darker green. . Used Vogue pattern #V1859 @simplicitymccallsuk . I’ve finally finished my dress! I say finally because the stitching in the ditch put me in a total mardy. I have a special foot, I’ve done it successfully before, did that help? No!!! I set it aside for a few days then ended up sewing some bits down by hand (which is what I should have done in the first place). And then when I got to the end I realised I had lots of eyes but no hooks! I’ve put a button in instead but it’s awkward to do up so I might replace it at some point. Toile done and I have thoughts…(black and white photos as I think it’s easier to spot issues that way!) It looks ok from the front but at the back there’s a lot of excess fabric by the armhole. In the second photo (before and after) you can see the effect of narrowing the shoulder on the left by 1/2” (the right shoulder is unaltered). I would usually narrow the shoulders in Vogue patterns by up to 1/2” but I’ve discovered that setting the armhole band in is very exact so I want to avoid messing with the armscye*. Also the left side seam is pinned shut rather than zipped so maybe that’s made it worse.? You can see the original has the same issue, I think it’s exacerbated by the open neck line at the front, you can see in the front of my toile the shoulders are slipping causing drag lines (which I’m not bothered about). I might try just folding out a 1/2” dart in the pattern pieces 🤔 It’s still too hot so I’ll spend a bit more time thinking - feel free to comment if you have any thoughts** 💭 *I would not rate this pattern as easy 😂 ** this probably should have been a novel rather than an instagram post 😂😂 #voguepatterns #v1859 #narrowshoulderadjustment #isewmyownclothes #patternalterations
