Big comfy pants!!! 🩲Yes! Who is with me on this? You just can’t beat a good old pair of cotton knickers that cover your whole bottom and aren’t riding up anywhere. I know the lace ones are pretty but these bad boys look pretty cute too and are WAY more comfortable for a day out! I’ve used leftover cotton jersey scraps and some black and white cotton jersey. I can literally get my sewing pants on now! My #topnine for the year! Looking back, it was an ok year for my sewing. I made lots of successful projects for others, but none for myself outside of lingerie. I have not felt very inspired to sew for myself, and the one garment I tried to make for myself was a fail as I misread the size chart 🤦‍♀️, and it was waaaay too small. I have a dress muslin I’m working on right now, so I’m hopeful I will do more garment making for me in the new year. #sewaprilblouse22 #DontTryToOutsmartThePattern @sewover50 reminded me of the April blouse challenge by @dahlia_sewciety and @cloth_edit. So I hurried to get the 📷 ready - all selfies, as Insta B was not instantly available 🤷 I ♥️ the pattern #S9285 🥰! Very versatile!!🥳 Pieces of advice: * put blouse on first, then makeup, otherwise makeup ends up on blouse 😉 * Choose non-scratchy fabric Made a size 6 as I thought I am smarter than the pattern instructions - which stated I needed a size 8 re my body measures. Why: Wanted to avoid the (usual) frustration of the blouse being too big / wide... Well, it was too tight 🙄! Luckily, the seam allowance of 1.5cm is generous👍, I undid all side seams and worked with the minimum... (Still annoying: have to retrace the pattern in size 8 again 😏 but it will be worth it! 🤩) See for yourselves why this make was an emotional rollercoaster: 1: with RTW Max Mara Pinstripe wool skirt of 2003 2: with other skirt options 3: with the "dernier crie" monster clip: "pleated-skirt-to-be" for the #so50sewalong hosted by @salixsews and @septemberfaden 4: the collar with 2 self-made loops & buttons and 1 hook & eye 5: the label by @little.rosy.cheeks won by @sarahcsewing and me at #SewRecreateTheLook by @jenlegg_teescreatives and @sosewdressmaking HAD to embellish the blouse. I undid the first seam to include the label - now it's a bit crooked 🤓 6. The collar was a bit nerve wrecking When test-pinned: 4 cm too much on each side, when basted; 2cm each, when sewn: it fit. To avoid being choked /suffocated I sewed with an angle. (I seem to "have a neck" - "einen Hals haben" means being in a bad mood in German) 7: Hurray! A first! The pleats are exactly as they should be according to the pattern! 🥳 8: "Don't wave hello before you cross the bridge" Finnish phrase "Den Tag nicht vor dem Abend loben" German. "Don't count your chicken before they are hatched" English. Sliding in under the wire, this is my #bonetosew entry. I have never made an all black set, so I chose this amazing wet-look fabric I found in a Stone Harbor remnant bundle. It looks and feels amazing on! The mesh is sheer - I did not back it with anything. I used my coverstitch on the hem of the nightie, which worked really well. I’m slowly getting more comfortable with it and getting better results. The nightie is the @simplicity_creative_group x @gertie18 #s9285 modified for no lace and no slit. I added a lining to the bust for a clean neckline finish. It’s pretty a-line compared to the pattern as well. I graded it out in the waist and hips to match my measurements, but it doesn’t hug my hips and below as the image and drawings indicate, but I’m ok with that. Of note, this pattern has cup sizes! This is listed nowhere on the envelope or online, which is kind of shocking honestly. Makes for a great fit! The panty is from the Simplicity x @madalynne #s9478. I had a hard time finding the size chart on this pattern, as it’s different than most envelopes, and got mixed messages when I did ask both companies’ customer services. The front is a little narrow as well.
