I’ve been obsessed with capes for as long as I can remember (how could I not, watching Olivia Pope) and now I finally have one! #vogue9288 was actually one of the first patterns I ever bought, and even though it says ‘very easy’ I took my time before taking this on and work the heavier fabrics. The easy part was not a lie though, considering this is outerwear there were surprisingly few pieces or steps. I did add my own lining pieces, on the one hand because it worked better for this printed fabric but also because I suspected its shape would make me lose enough warmth as it is. And insert long gloves as well! Which was also something I sourced way in advance of actually making this cape they should go with 😬🥰 I have many ideas of what I will try differently with this pattern for a future piece. I have some ideas for experimentation but the main thing is: working with a non-stretch fabric, because this would have been a way more joyful experience if I wouldn’t have had to try having control over bulky seams with a slippery walking foot. Speaking of sabotaging sewing feet, my 1-step buttonhole situation just said ‘nope’ and left it to me to figure it out (‘it’ being TEN buttonholes 😩). This one took me a loooonnnggg time to actually sew up - I had it cut out for a while but wanted to bind all the seams for a clean look, and that intimidated me! Newly sewn Inverness inspired cape. The pattern is Vogue 9288 @mccallpatterncompany @simplicitymccallsuk @simplicity_creative_group An uncomplicated make with three length variations. I opted for the shortest, and forwent the belt. It could pass for a hybrid cape/ dress. The fabric is a lightweight wool blend, which works well for transitioning seasons. My favorite features include the front button closures, and oversized, rounded patch pockets.👌 Both fabric and buttons found @stitchsource In lieu of lining, neatened with French seams throughout, otherwise zero mods. Took my #v9288 cape out to see the cherry blossoms. It's black crepe with black trim hand stitched on to every edge. The crepe came from @fabworksmillshop and the trim and buttons from @maccullochw. Pattern is the V9288 from vogue. Belt by @thistlethistle

First outfit of 2024, a Victorian detective cape from Vogue. It does look very stylish and I'm super proud of the pattern matching across the front and pockets. The pattern is very easy to construct but for those with wider hips, the front panel isn't very wide so you might want to draft a wider one (if you have wide hips, like me) or your clothes will be visible underneath. I didn't have enough fabric to adjust it so I made an underneath apron from the lining to disguise it. #v9288 #voguepatterns #memade

Folks who’ve made #v9288 how did you feel about this offset button hole? I figured it was to get around the curve of the breast, but on the body and with the buttons pinned on it looks so odd, like it wants to move back in line with the rest. If they were all on a slightly curved line it might work, or if the one below it was shifted, but for only this one to be shifted it stands out oddly. #sewing #pattern #questions #yescapes

The perfect outerwear for a chilly Christmas walk! I started this Vogue 9288 cape in a size small a couple of months ago but we were only able to finish it this week due to various button/buttonhole issues, so it’s great to be able to wear it out! The fabric is the same green wool blend that my mum used for her Vogue coat, and I underlined it with a coordinating light flannel for extra warmth. The buttons are from WM Trimmings in Dublin, I loved the leafy look and thought it matched the wool perfectly. The cape itself is very easy (buttonholes excepting, neither of our machines are much good at those!) and I stuck to the directions except for cutting the back panel on the fold instead of having a back seam. I made a thing, I saw the pattern & wanted one instantly, so I used some fabric from my stash to practice on. It turned out ok, although I decided to add sweater type lining for extra cosiness, even though the pattern didn't call for it.
