One of the most beautiful excursions during our Portugal road trip was the Almendres stone circle. The Cromlech of Almendres is a three-phase Stone Age stone circle in the District of Évora in the Alentejo region of Portugal. It is the most important cromlech on the Iberian Peninsula and 1000 to 2000 years older than Stonehenge. The more than 100 megaliths are surrounded by old cork oaks in the red earth of the Alentejo. The energy of this place is incredibly strong. We were extremely lucky to have been the only visitors there in the evening sun at Lughnasad. The full moon rose and the air buzzed with magic. Yesterday was Ely Eel day! A celebration of my favourite city and its namesake, the Eel! My sister and I have wanted to go for years and finally made it! I struggle to have any national pride, but going really reignited my regional pride. I love being from the Fens. I love that it’s so flat I can see for miles, even if that means I struggle to walk up hill because my body is not built for it (that might just be a me thing though). I’m wearing my Hobbit lady ensemble. My skirt is a simple gathered rectangle skirt, made from gingham I bought from a charity shop. A couple of weeks ago I got to go to a medieval fair and I took the chance to wear out this bodice I had made last summer. Before the summer heat hit, there was a beautiful flower meadow near our house, perfect for a golden hour photo shoot. Outfit: Rusty orange skirt by @french.meadows Blouse is Jessica's Gunnies (thrifted) Corset sewn by me with the #b4669 pattern and fabric thrifted from @austincreativereuse

A new dopamine outfit has entered the chat ✨ I had so much suede left over from my #gsflirtskirt last year that I figured it was a good opportunity to make a little matching top. This is my second version of #b4669, and is definitely a big improvement. Making corset style tops is definitely a new experience for me and while I don't think my first attempt was bad, it was so satisfying to be able to implement lessons learned from my first attempt. 🖤 Construction notes 🖤 Pattern: #b4669, view A Fabric: upholstery suede (outer), quilting cotton (lining and binding) Size: 10, with 5in FBA Mods: added boning, moved lacing to the back, slightly different binding application, lowered back neckline Construction wise, this was very easy to put to together, especially if you've made a top similar in the past. The pattern pieces are obvious and it's a lot of repetitive pressing and sewing and then a huge amount of hand sewing to finish it all off lol. Fitting wise, I'm super stoked with the fit I managed to achieve. I made a 5in FBA, which was 3in more than my first one and honestly, still think I could have increased another inch. It fits pretty well, but the girls are definitely girling when the top is laced up completely. However! The lacing gap is waaaaay more even than the last attempt, so I'm calling that a win. I also spiritually lowered the bust apex (because often I find it too high) but not convinced it was the right move as I ended up having to shorten the straps and lower the neckline by quite a bit later. Modifications wise, it was mostly a bunch of small, aesthetic changes (which are all pretty easy to pick out when looking at other projects in the hashtag). For boning, I used cable ties (as per usual) and basically added them to every seam. I'm super happy with the look that it gives - it's got so much more structure than my first attempt. Notably, this top doesn't have any crumpling along the grommets from the tension of the lacing (which my first one did), and which I am super glad for (I hate that look lol). (Also, if you see chalk markings in any of these photos, no you didn't)

While I'm marinating on my next "more bust, more problems" project, thought I'd share some photos of my last one which was waaay more successful than I expected and turned out super cute! 💫 Construction Notes 💫 Pattern: Butterick #b4669, view B (minus the peplum) Size: 10, with FBA of ~1in Fabric: Cotton canvas for the outer (all interfaced) and quilting cotton for the lining and bias binding Mods: Only adjustments I made was to make a smaller size than my measurements and to do an FBA. After doing some SERIOUS digging on Butterick sizing (knowing the big 4 ease allowances can be generous) I found that this pattern was designed to have 0 ease - i.e. to be worn completely closed. As I wanted that classic lacing gap, I decided to size down two sizes (14 to 10) and this was definitely the right plan - I would have been swimming in a top two sizes larger. Classic big 4 lol. It was a super easy make though, provided you don't have issues with bias binding lol. I used almost 6m for this (including making the ties) so if you have beef with bias binding, this might not be the project for you. Luckily, I have no such drama and it was actually a surprisingly satisfying and fuss-free make, even with the 20 grommets 🤷🏻‍♀️ Bust wise, I made the spiritual decision to do a 2in FBA, which very clearly was not enough (as evidenced by the shape of the lacing gap lol) but honestly I'm not going to lose sleep over it. If I made it again I'd grade down in the waist and add another 1-2in to the FBA to change the lacing gap shape from \/ to | | As always, huge thanks to my partner (and friends) that tolerate and assist with my photoshoots in the middle of parties lol - i am indeed, #thatbitch 💅🏻🍷

Went to @mnrenaissance festival in a cotton voile shirt that I kind of slapped together and a really solid #b4669 in two quilting cottons and a cotton duck from @joann_stores. I ended up hemming the shirt up about a foot which will probably get let out at some point, whenever I decide it's time to throw some buttons on! 🍃🍂Fall Witch Ensemble🍁🍃 Is what I dubbed this year’s Halloween costume. This is a repost of the original one bc I definitely miss spelled ensemble in the first post cover photo. This is the #B4669 by the Big 4, I actually traced the #S9592 but there are barely any tags on Instagram. I also compared the 2 patterns and didn't notice any difference in the patterns (at least for the view A I traced) so I think they can be used interchangeably. I made a size 14-16 (14 chest, graded to 16 waist). The pattern fits the following measurements: chest sizes 30.5"-42", waist 23"-34", and hip 32.5"-44". All fabrics I used are from my stash. I had a brocade I bought years ago and used scraps of quilting cotton from previous projects for the lining. Overall a fun and quick project! The longest part was couching the grommets. When taking time and energy on a sewing project which is important to my heart, I appreciate more and more all these little details which seem to be insignificant but give all the sentimental power to the final result. For this 18th century gown made with a chemise, a bump pad,  an overpetticoat, a boned vest and its overskirt the sentimental value is brought as by the origin of the furnitures - the fabric is a second hand gifted by my family, laces on sleeves and the silky fichu come from my grand-mother - as by the time the finishes made by hand took and the time it took to chose the correct places of each pattern piece to have the best of the design. Finally got around to photgraphing my handmade #renissancefestival outfit! The bodice pattern is Butterick #b4669 The top is reversible, and both sides were made from #williammorrisfabric I added boning to the corset top for extra structure, and made bias tape and lacing out of the skirt fabric, so that everything matched perfectly. The chemise is Simplicity #S8162 I modified the sleeves to make them longer and poofier, added a ruffle on the botton of the skirt for length and volume, and added lots of lace from my stash. Skirt was self drafted and has an elastic waist and pockets. I love how this outfit turned out, and I could definitely see myself making similar pieces in the future!

Traditionally, the heather blooms from 8th of August, 'till 9th of September. This year, it's one of the most beautiful bloomingseason for years. Janvier se termine et voilà un petit récapitulatif de mon premier mois dans le monde de la couture ! J'ai fait le corset A du patron Butterick B4669, il a beaucoup de défaut mais c'est pas mal pour une débutante 😊 je compte faire prochainement la version D. Ce tissu velours est tellement beau (et se fond parfaitement bien dans notre camélia ❤️) que j'ai profité des soldes de @mondialtissus pour en prendre plus que ce dont j'avais besoin (bon j'avoue que c'est surtout parce que j'avais peur de me planter et de devoir recommencer 😂 et vu comment je ne sais pas couper, en bonne gauchère que je suis, on était pas loin de la catastrophe lol), il me reste plus d'un mètre de tissu mais je ne sais pas encore ce que je vais en faire 🤔 J'ai aussi fait une poche inspiration XVIIIe siècle avec ce même tissu, elle est un peu petite mais c'est parfait pour y mettre mon téléphone. Et mon premier essai pour voir si j'arrivais à coudre des trucs ensemble 😂 un jupon à taille réglable, mais fait à base de rideau bah ça ne tombe pas très bien vu que ce rideau est lourd 😅 mais au moins j'ai compris comment faire et j'en referai avec du tissu plus léger.
