My first attempt at a vogue pattern. I'm terrible at sizing, but I took a chance on this and it did not disappoint. Its definitely reminiscent of those 90s slip dresses. The bust is custom fit (niiiicccee) but ain't nobody tell me it sits low. Baby them titties gone be sitting pretty in this. I put a shirt up under mine cause we can't be doing all that at work. However, if you need a little date night dress... she's it. It is lined and does call for a zipper. I struggled installing both, cause.. it's me and we don't know how to do all that yet. But it is a very easy make. Prints or solids? I have a hard time choosing! I love prints and usually when I choose solids, they have some sort of texture to add interest. Speaking of prints, the animal print trend has been a favorite of mine, and this @teliofashion pebble crepe was no exception! So much so, that I now have two garments made out of this fabric. 🐆 This dress is #v9278 which I’ve made before. For this version I raised the front bodice piece 1”, took some width out of the skirt and shortened the length quite a bit. So I made this for my beautiful daughter using one of @rabeahrobin70 ‘s mum’s remnants from her fabric hoard. It did not fit her properly so I need to alter a bodice and start again. Sewing Challenge 2024: March Swipe for the make ⏩️⏩️ This month I ventured into the 1990s and took inspiration from the infamous runway show from November 1992, when @themarcjacobs @marcjacobs brought grunge to the catwalk. My new challenge with this dress was to try pattern matching my fabric for the first time: I was unsuccessful 😂 maybe next time I’ll try with a less obvious print! I decided to make a slip style dress that is in keeping with the 90s trend, using the Vogue V9278 pattern and for the SS93 Marc Jacobs look I used a polyviscose blend tartan fabric from @dalston.mill.fabrics with a plain black polycotton lining. Day 18 #memademay2020. 10 years to the day since I graduated from @columbia University. I will never forget the joy I felt as Empire State of Mind played at commencement. "I'm the new Sinatra, and since I made it here, I can make it anywhere." As a young, Black woman, those lines filled me with such promise as I took my first, uncertain steps outside of the Ivy League bubble and into the real world. .. The truth is, even though I was graduating with so much knowledge and skills, I had no clue of what to do next. On May 19 I packed up my year-round home of 4 years, stored many things on campus, ran across the city for a job interview, and then unceremoniously got on a Greyhound bus and returned to the DC-area. I spent 2 weeks on my sister's couch and determined to move back to NYC on June 1. Thank God my best friend's aunt offered to let me stay with her in Flatbush temporarily and thank God I aced my interview and was offered a job at Park Avenue Armory starting that next Monday. By June 15 I had found a roommate and my very first apartment in Astoria and I managed to split my rent and security deposit between my first 2 paychecks from the non-profit. My mother delivered some of my childhood furniture and artwork and I was ready to begin. .. Now, at 31, I've felt closer to those first few months of hustle than ever since. I've been connected to the willfulness, resourcefulness, and 'get shit done' attitude that helped me find success. I've started my career over again, aimed toward a new definition of success, with the experience and community I've built as a professional and an alumna. I'm embracing these new uncertain steps into the next decade with joy and hopefulness. "Concrete jungle where dreams are made of, There's nothing you can't do!" .. I love wearing clothes I sewed years ago. Since all of my clothes are so tailored to my body, when I put on this old dress, it felt like rediscovering my shape from 2019.
