This #memade truly gives me a lot of joy whenever i see it on my display. I can safely say it is my favorite make of 2019 due to the immense joy it brings to my heart. People think it's a dress but it's a skirt and a top. Very easy make. Attaching the elastic to the waist was very challenging due to the gathered effect I wanted. For the top part, I whipped it up in less than 4 hours including cutting. I used butterick pattern #b6242 for the top with some modifications. If the pattern says to use a broadcloth, crepe or knit jersey with no obvious diagonals and you use a drapery, quite slippery viscose with very obvious diagonals, are all the issues you have sewing it: a) the pattern's fault b) the fabric's fault c) your fault No poll needed here as the answer is most definitely c! I struggled with this one and it spent two months as an abandoned WIP. In addition to picking the wrong fabric for the pattern, I accidentally cut the sleeves short when I was supposed to be lengthening them by completely forgetting and cutting the fabric at the lengthen line. The cummerbund was awful because the fabric was too light so had to be removed and abandoned. It's also too short in the torso, so it's pulling out of shape a bit. I'm disappointed because it's a great fabric from @rainbowfabrickilburn and I feel I've not done it justice. It's a good pattern too, someday when I've moved on enough, I might try it again. I will wear it, and I will learn from my mistakes which is the main thing. My sewing year has been such a major adventure for me. I decided in January to only make and wear my own ready made clothes and not buy any ready to wear clothes. I succeed, save for a gym outfit which I didn't mind! Woohoo!! I now see all the time and effort that goes into making a garment- there are people behind every garment that we buy- sewing, pressing, cutting. All the things. The fact that you can buy a lovely garment for just $30 astonishes me because I know it costs so much more for the fabric and the labour. Someone always pays the price... Finished these #b6242 pants just before we went to the movies so took pics afterwards. This is the 3rd pair I've made with this pattern. They're so comfy and even more so with minor pattern changes. Two things on my sewing table at the moment. They are both butterick retro patterns from the 60s, but with the wide gathered skirt both got quite a 1950s feel. The first one is #b6242 slightly altered for the contrast at the bottom, the second one is #b6318, the pink tie will match the pink in the stars. #imagedescription 1. Finished my dress just in time for Valentine's Day! As I'm sure some of you saw on my story updates, i hate side zipper garments, but I decided to suck it up just this once. 😂 it feels good to finally use up some fabric I bought half of a decade ago! I'm really glad I decided to use this art deco gold foil printed fabric for the contrasting cumberbund and bias!
