Absolutely loving this silhouette 🥰 This is my second and third version of Butterick’s #b6551 from @simplicity_creative_group and I initially didn’t have high hopes. It’s usually the so called “easy” patterns that always trip me up but, with this pattern, I was pleasantly surprised 🤷🏻‍♀️ I used a soft and flowy, blue/green background, rayon challis from @fabricmart and the colors are even prettier in person. I also used this super cute red (with orange undertones) flower crepe fabric, also from @fabricmart, that I’ve had in my stash for forever. After completing it, I soon realized that crepe doesn’t have as much “give” as my rayon fabric. Next time, it’s probably a good idea to make the seam allowances 3/8th of an inch instead of the 5/8th it calls for. Mods: 1) Deepened the v neck by an inch 2) raised the side slit by 5 inches 3) size goes from large near bust to xl in the hips That’s it! An easy make that I can finish in a little over two hours. OMG 😱 I didn’t even realize I’d made so many of these 😜 So in November last year I pulled out this pattern #b6551 that didn’t strike me as anything special but I loved the a-line kaftan look of it and thought it would be nice to have one or two pieces…little did I know it would be more like a dozen!! It’s a gorgeous bunch though and I’m loving my choices. Loved that I could make dressier pieces or more casual pieces for any day wear. Special shout out to @lafinchfabrics_new for offering such incredibly lovely fabric that I jumped on. The retro looking black/white and the funky pink/green floral short dresses are linen blends from #lafinchfabrics and I can’t wait for more like it. Day 9 in a Butterick dress from @pacificfabrics rayon challis. My sewing is not the finest on this dress but it's super duper comfy. It's one that I didn't care for too much, but so many people commented on it. I came round to it after a while although the wearing of it was always nice. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to yourself in different silhouettes. Edit: I should probably mention it's #b6551 :)

So… I have reluctantly moved on from my recent boho dress obsession 😩 😜 I made version B of the Butterick #b6551 from @simplicity_creative_group and it looked like a super cute pattern 🤞🏼I’ve noticed that the mandarin collar is a recurring theme in my me-made choices. I love it more than the usual button down collars. I decided to grade the sizes from large (to accommodate my bust) to xl (to fit those hips!) It worked out better than I expected 🤗🤗 Since this was a practice piece, I decided to leave out the interfacing in the collar. And it looks absolutely awful lol!! It also left it a little floppy…I think it’s still wearable though 👍🏼 I’m also going to make sure I take about an inch out of the collar for next time cause it’s way too tall. The fabric is a super thin rayon challis from @fabricmart that will be perfect for the really warm Spring 🌺 in Florida Next version will be similar to this but in a crepe fabric that is slightly heavier and more stable. I’m hoping it’ll give the same kind of swish and comfort but more substantial. Sneak peek 🫣 Yes, I have made several versions of this a-line shift dress in maxi lengths and mini…but this fabric was just begging to be made in this silhouette! I needed something to show off the gorgeous poplin fabric and its adorable floral print. Although it’s not a fabric I really love (it’s very “crisp” and somewhat stiff) the colors are really vibrant and the dress itself doesn’t have a lot of movement, I had to try it. A lot of blue for #memademay2020 Days 5-8, which is not surprising since I make a lot of blue things! The weather was good these days, so I got out into the garden a fair bit, which definitely helps the old mood. Notes 1. Modified Liesl + Co. Hollywood trousers and a Melilot shirt. I took a pic in the deepest corner of the garden because the light fabric colours were glaring big time. It looks rather lovely here, but in reality is an overgrown weed pit. The trousers were made at peak fitness 2 years ago and are still a little tight. I'll maybe take them out slightly at the tummy. 2. The Zadie jumpsuit. I've been seeing tons of these and rightly so - it's so comfy. This is a Nani Iro gauze which is so beautiful, but a bear to iron. 3. Butterick dress. It was a bit of a fail pattern-wise, but the fabric is cool and it's a perfect warm weather dress, so I wear it often. 4. Modified Everyday skirt by Liesl + Co. and the Ostara tee by Jennifer Lauren. Love the shape of the Ostara tee and this just reminds me I need to make more. The full-length skirt is perfect for lazy days and rayon is cool to wear. I wear it often and a couple more full-length skirts would serve me well.

My closet of summer dresses is slowly filling up again. This is #b6551 but I added pockets because every dress needs pockets! The fabric is a super soft cotton from @gorgeousfabrics. Such a dream to sew with high quality fabrics. It is even more dreamy to wear in the steamy heat this week.

So it’s Friday, Beyoncé just dropped her album, and I made this dress in a day from both my fabric and pattern stash! What’s not to celebrate? The pattern is decent but once I measured the pattern pieces, I felt the finished measurements were a tad off. It’s supposed to be a “ very loose” fitting dress but I would argue it’s more semi. I made a L/XL but for my next one I’m going to go ahead and do L at the neckline and collar only. I had to overcast the armholes because if I had followed the pattern finishing, it would have been a tad deeper than I wanted. A few tweaks in the back piece might be needed as well. So I’m thinking sizing up might allow for that.
