50’s wrap dress, Butterick pattern #b6212 🪡 Made with thrifted cotton fabric, and I didn’t add the buttons that the pattern suggests. Issues I had: neckline doesn’t lay very flat, and I had to chop off part of the sleeves so I could raise my arms (should have chosen fabric with more stretch/give). I won’t be able to wear it dancing, but I’m happy with it overall. Might try to make it again with different fabric.

#igbagfest2019day18 is about things being challenging. It’s been left a bit open to how we want to interpret it, so I’m coming at it from two directions. . 📍Personal challenge: Late 2016 I was in a car accident. While I wasn’t physically badly injured, I sustained a concussion. It’s nearly three years out and I still have issues from it. I’ve always been the type of person who gets on a project and hyper-focuses until it’s done. I couldn’t do that anymore. Anything requiring concentration sent me into horrible headaches. (Less so now, but it’s still an issue.) I stopped sewing entirely for quite a long time. When I got back to it, I had to only do small projects (mending, etc), to ensure I didn’t spend too much time at it at once. I’ve had to train myself to only do little bits at a time and then take a break. Previously I’d have finished two aprons in a day. Now one takes me up to two days to complete. But I’m sewing again, and that’s what matters! . 📍On the side of recent challenging projects, this blasted dress has been the bane of my existence! 😂 Last fall I got this amazing fabric I adored and went to work. All went well until it came to the button placement. This dress is one long piece once sewn, with the neck hole in the middle. It lays over your like a smock and the skirt wraps around and buttons in the back. I made covered buttons, did bound buttonholes, and was so excited until I realized I was NOT getting the buttons in the right place to fit well. Not having a dress form, I gave up and put it away. . This summer I pulled it back out, sighed, and cut off the entire top and back. I reworked the wraparound portion into a side-button circle skirt, salvaging my covered buttons and one bound buttonhole. I did a machine hole for the waistband. The remainder of the buttons are decoration. . The pattern of the fabric is all cockeyed now because the former front is now the side. I have two different type buttonholes. The hem is probably not real straight. All in all it’s sort of a shitshow. But so am I.
