This is one of my FAVOURITE #vogue patterns. It's the #V9327 and the only custom fit pattern I've made from Vogue. As well as your size, the pattern allows customisation for bust size. I've made this dress twice and might make another one in dark purple. I also really mastered putting in an invisible zip with this dress, I used a white zip but it's invisible! Fabric is thrifted, most likely polyester. A new dress!💃🏼 And fab earrings from @pow_studio 💜 @alvarogmaija Fabric: 120g viscose, Beryl night @atelierbrunette @salapakka I started with the Vogue pattern V9327 (dress C) but made some changes to the design. The pattern had a darted bodice, but I split it into panels. For my body, the darts are always very large/deep and it is easier to get a good result with princess seams or panels. I lowered the neckline and made a million small fit adjustments to the bodice😅. The skirt is super heavy, so I added a waist tie for some extra support and waist definition. This may be one of my favourite things I’ve ever made 😍. It’s the McCalls 7974 with the modified sleeves from the Vogue 9327 and a box pleated skirt. The border print viscose was from Stitch Fabrics years ago and it’s the second length I bought. I made a trouser and top set from the first 5 metres I had. It’s another simple print placement piece but I think it turned out beautifully. I made this dress and detachable sleeves (soooo ‘80s) for the races. But, as the day approached, I didn’t think I’d be able to wear it because, you know, Melbourne (17 degrees that particular day…). But l reminded myself that fashion is pain and I sucked it up. But also, as I was trying on my back-up dress - a long sleeved cream lace number (will post shortly) - my husband walked in and exclaimed ‘are you getting married?’🖕So, of course, I couldn’t wear that dress for fear that everyone else was thinking the same thing. Honestly, I may never be able to wear it again now… Pattern: A mish-mash of @burda_style #6483 and @simplicitymccallsaustralia #v9327, plus separate puff ball sleeves (I followed one of the many online tutorials) Fabric: Deep stash taffeta. Not sure where I got it from, but it must have been on sale, because I had at least four metres (enough to tolerate my ridiculous botch up on the first attempt, where I completely misaligned the waists of the two patterns 🤦‍♀️).

Final make of 2022 🫶🏼 . I made this lovely dress for a beautiful New Year’s Eve wedding. I had lusted after this silk at @wearethefabricstore for sometime but never had an occasion to warrant buying it. Cue black tie wedding. . The pattern is #v9327, a surprisingly simple and easy pattern. It was a pleasure to sew, even though I did a classic panic sew to finish it on the day. I chose to line the skirt because the fabric is sheer, and I left the sleeves unlined. What a beautiful final make for 2022. . This dress has big governess energy (complimentary) but the fabric doesn’t want to photograph! The back neck darts and I didn’t get along and I think my next one needs to be taken in at the centre back, maybe shortened a bit at the waist, but otherwise a LOT quicker and less fiddly than I was expecting! This is definitely in the wearable blanket category of work dress, where I look very professional and sharp but am secretly just wearing a wool blanket. I added normal cuffs instead of the pattern cuffs due to fabric shortage but otherwise everything was straight from the pattern! I chose completely the wrong pattern for this fabric at the start - a shawl neck, shortish coat with a waist tie that very much resembled a dressing gown/smoking jacket, thanks to the quilting style of the fabric. I was so incredibly disappointed, but I just couldn’t get over how beautiful the fabric was. So I ordered more and started again. Absolutely love the fabric made up in this structured-sleeve, cinched-waist jacket pattern by @vikisews . I also made matching pants and a top. (Last photo shows the original coat and all my attempts at different hem lengths in an attempt to make it less blah.) This dress has got to be my favourite make of the year. I was sitting my final meeting of the year when I thought "one shoulder, 70s skirt, gold" I drew a little picture on my phone and felt a flutter of excitement. I knew it would be this golden fabric in my stash from @wearethefabricstore Fitzroy, which I always had marked for a party dress. I got to wear it at New Years with my beautiful friends Bec and Sam from Sydney, and leant it to my twin @erinjenc for a recent wedding. She was mesmerising. -- Pattern: I rummaged through my patterns for a dress with a hackable fitted bodice and settled on #v9327. I sliced the bodice from neckline to underarm and just used one sleeve piece. I think I extended the sleeve by 10-15cm, gathering it into some elastic. I cut a size 14 bodice and graded to a 16 waist, which fit pretty well and added a back zip which didn't get in the way of the pockets I added. Finished hems with linen facings. --- Wearing it, I felt like a glam, sexy, shiny goddess. Totally a 2024 Vibe. 💥🧜‍♀️🫶

black Winslow shorts! 🖤 a staple i knew i needed so much that i cut and sewed them up two days before we left for japan 🇯🇵 and yet, they’ve given me grief since the day i pulled them off the machine 🪡 first, the invisible zipper split the first time i pulled them on in our hotel room, leaving me trapped in half-zipped shorts i didn’t want to literally rip off my body (their loss also ruined so many of my carefully planned capsule wardrobe outfits) 🩳 and now, with a new shiny exposed zip (i purchased in Japan), the teeth catch constantly and that cheeky gap at the top that i left, it’s too much—right? 😬 do we think i could get away with it if i sew the hook and eye a bit farther in on the waistband? or should i abandon ship and simply put the regular invisible zip back in? 🛟 either way, back to the machine again! . . . pattern: #winslowculottes by @helens__closet size: 14 adjustments: shortened winslows (view a) by 2” / and swapped the inseam pockets for waist-anchored ones (my fav are from #v9327, but I also use the ones from #v1735), swapped the invisible zip for an exposed one (results may vary) fabric: zarria black ultrasoft rayon and recycled polyester twill from @moodfabrics (a staple, a workhorse, pls make it in more colors i beg u) making a basic as complex as possible: my joie de vivre . . . #travelsewing #winslowculotteshack #madewithmood #stillsewingstories #sewingfails #millennialsewist #nysewist #moodfabrics #sewbasic

I’m devo to be missing the #sewmelbournegp this year. If I were going, this is what I’d be wearing (ok, maybe not the stiletto heel boots). Pattern: #v9327, with some volume removed from the skirt and elastic added at the sleeve hems. I also repositioned the bodice darts so they start at the centre of the front bodice and back bodice, allowing me to place the trim in the position I wanted Fabric: Linen from the stash Trim: Unbelievably, also from the stash (a perfect match) Belt: By the beautiful ladies at @buttonmaniac Slip: The #tessutisadie #sadieslipdress by @tessutifabrics in a tencel blend from @darncheapfabrics (made as part of a previous project that was a complete fail, so good to repurpose it for this project) I agonised over the skirt length on the dress, unable to decide between this more demure length or a more playful knee-length style. I may shorten this to knee length in due course, adding a ruffle, but I decided I’ll get more work wear out of it at this length, even though I am skirting dangerously close to ‘little house on the prairie’ vibes… Can’t wait to see all the photos from the garden party on Sunday!
