Because I am doing the pattern challenge I thought I’d post a couple pictures of my muslin of Butterick 6055. I had high hopes for this pattern and ended up really hating it at the end. It was very long waisted on me and ill fitting and technically had no upper bodice shorten lines. I did shorten bodice anyways. I do love the pockets though. #b6055

WELL. If you’ve been following along on stories you’ll know I’ve been having a nightmare with this dress, mainly because the instructions for the collar were so fiendish you need membership of Mensa to understand them. So I’m annoyed with it. BUT. I will say that the fit is lovely, specifically the waist sits perfectly on my natural waist; the zip insertion was easy enough, and whilst I expected these pockets to add bulk I actually think they’re rather chic. It’s meant to have a fabric belt which I may or may not add (just grabbed this black one from my wardrobe for now) and I need to finish the the sleeves and hem. Overall I actually quite like it, which is a miracle considering I nearly put it in the bin two days ago! I am still annoyed about the collar though - for that much effort I want it to be couture, not this completely normal collar that could have been much easier. Finally getting a chance to post my newest skirt. I used @gertie18 Charm Patterns full circle skirt pattern, and added the pockets from Butterick 6055. I want to thank @bobo_bun for the pocket advice. I used some ivory wool flannel that I’ve been carrying around for nearly 25 years. PSA....don’t keep wool in your stash for two decades, sadly the moths had got to quite a bit of one end, but I managed to cut around them. I managed to mend this skirt last week and I hadn’t realized how much I had missed it since it was relegated to the “repair me” bin! This skirt is me-made using the bottom of the Butterick 6055 dress pattern. I typically shy away from GIANT STATEMENT POCKETS because they stand out visually but I can’t get enough of them on this skirt, in the same fabric. 🚂 Here is the completed Hogwarts Express dress. 🚂 It perfect to wear on a hot Florida day. Details includes a hand-stitched zipper, a 2” wide hem edged with vintage lace hem tape, contrasting fabric for the collar, ties and belt, as well as vintage buttons and belt buckle for some fun pops of color. And those pockets! The only change I made to them was to close the keyhole, and they were large enough to hold my phone, lanyard small wallet in one and my pumpkin juice sipper in the other.
