I attended my first ever frocktails at @melbournefrocktails last weekend, and this was the beauty of a dress I wore. Its Vogue #V1882 pattern in a Cotton Sateen (with a little bit of stretch) from @wearethefabricstore. I actually made it for a wedding in Bryon Bay last year, so it was its second outing. It was nice to rewear and  avoided stressful last minute sewing. The main change I made to the pattern was lifting the removing the deep V, as I was worried about the bodice being too revealing. It took 2-3 toiles to get the bodice fit right, but I think I nailed it. My favourite addition was hand sewing in some foam bra cups between the main fabric and lining (you know the ones from gym bras that twist around after one washing machine encounter, I pull them out and reuse them for my dresses 🤣) ta da a dress with a built in bra! I also added a lining in a navy cotton poplin to the bodice only. I didn't both with a lining for the skirt as the fabric has a nice weight by itself. For the skirt length,  I shortened the long version to midi length on my 5'9 frame. This was a pretty easy sew once I got the fit right. Sewing with cotton sateen is my easy win fabric, behaves perfectly, and has a touch of stretch, which makes fitting and body changes more forgiving. I still have a good amount of this fabric left over, and I am contemplating making either a mini skirt or mini dress. I have this weird habit of making dresses that I can’t wear anywhere because I don’t really go on “fancy dates” and we don’t go to the office anymore. This I just loved, though. #v1882 in a cotton poplin from @moodfabrics. I am in the process of making a mint green sheer(ish) top that can be worn under it so I can get more use out of it but originally I have this as an option for my eldest sons upcoming wedding. .
