Pants, pants, pants! I've made three pairs of this #mccalls8531 pattern and will be moving on to simpler things for a bit but am happy that all of these are very wearable and practical! They're described as Y2K inspired pants, and for short-torsoed me I'd put them at a mid-rise, juuuust like a centimeter or so higher than my absolute preference but not bone-squishing high-rise. I made the brown corduroy first after doing some muslin-test adjustments (I will always push buying/watching @palmerpletsch fitting videos; I own their pants one and I finally figured out what I really needed to change in my patterns!) and they are great but loose -- I'm glad I didn't over assume this would be the same for the cotton twill ones I made because they are snug, and I changed my construction order so I do the back center seam last (including the waistband so I had to turn the back waistband into two pieces). To make the waistband tabs work with this i just made an extra one and centered them near the center seam so if I needed to make any changes (which I did!) the tabs wouldn't get in the way. The original pattern just has one over the center back which is fine, but another tip I learned is that having two belt loops/tabs to the sides of the center helps hold belts better but I pretty much never wear belts anyway because I hate how they feel lol. Also for the grey and olive twill pants I figured out how to make a zippered pouch for one of the lower side pockets instead of just the flappy flaps. I didn't realize until I made it but the grey ones have a "pocket" zipper and the olive ones just a regular zip so it doesn't close as well but it will still keep things basically secure. #m8531 #mccallspants #mccallspatterns #y2kpants #sempstress #sewistsofinstagram #corduroypants #cargopants #sewin #sewsewsew #pantspantspants

Pocket pocket pocket! I am sewing these in a different order than the directions because I wanted the fit to be right, but then realized it would make attaching the side pockets harder 🙃. But I was still able to make it work! This is a newer pattern that I haven't seen any reviews of, but I did a Palmer pletsch-ish muslin test/redraft so hopefully I will be able to wear these once they are done!
