Fancy pajamas. 🥰 Pattern: #b6296 #lisettepatterns Fabric: Liberty of London Tana Lawn The pattern envelope states these are “facile,” but if “facile” doesn’t mean “effing hard,” it’s ranked incorrectly. 🤣 This was the first time I’ve installed piping on a garment and the process became way easier when I stopped overthinking it and just trusted myself and the process. This pattern had a ton of pieces, and the collar triangles didn’t match up in the end, causing a slightly messy collar finish (see second pic). I found later that others had this problem too. A little disappointed in that but I’ve noted it for next time. I’ve seen other versions of these where the sewist drafted a back neck facing which I think seems ideal. Only mods were to shorten the top by two inches (also sized down two sizes for a less huge fit), topstitched the front facing down, and cut the shorts at the shortest line because we like short shorts around here. Also, it’s eclipse day and Dallas is in the direct line of totality, but we have a very cloudy sky with the sun peeping out only on occasion. 😭 Tots and pears that we can get a glimpse!

Upcycled pajamas from thrifted flannel sheets 🛌 ! These ended up taking quite a while because of all the piping, but I’ve been wearing them quite a lot since finishing last month. I used butterick 6296 (fit notes + modifications below). Kept the original L.L. Bean label from the sheets and added a few more as well 🙂‍↔️ Fit notes: Size 10 top and bottom For the top, I used view A cut to the shorter length of view B. Pants: Added 1” to the pants rise for a higher waist fit - I think I added length to the inseam as well? Can’t remember. Top: Added 3/4” to sleeve length, drafted a back neck facing. The sleeve and leg cuffs were sewn on in two steps for a cleaner finish. I added piping to the pant pockets and yoke, which are covered by the top anyways but it’s a nice touch 😌. #b6296 #butterick6296

I've always thought that piped pyjamas were the classiest things imaginable - imagine not just wearing an old T-shirt to bed?! So I've been looking for a fun print I love for years to make the perfect pair, and finally made the attempt using the #B6296, and this cotton dobby (Fuku II Cats and Waves) from @riversidefabrics. I love this print, but was pretty surprised at the colours when it arrived - I was expecting the lighter colour to be A LOT closer to white. Pattern notes - Not sure if it was just my dobby fabric shrinking a lot, but I don't trust this pattern layout. Despite being one of the smaller sizes for my fabric layplan, my pieces did not fit on the fabric as shown, and I had to change to a short sleeve shirt to compensate. I barely squeezed a size 14 out of 5 yards, it was so tight! I read some reviews before starting the pattern about the messed up back neckline instructions, and promptly forgot this when sewing until I came to that part. Whoops. The notches for turning under the collar on the inside are in the wrong spot, and will leave raw edges exposed. I'll draft a back facing next time, but I was so tight on fabric I just clipped and folded under all along the back edge. I added piping to the pants pockets and back yoke, and think it looks great, really pleased with that decision. What's the point of a yoke if it disappears into the fabric pattern? I'm currently a 35" bust, 28" waist and 37" hip, made the size 14. I like baggy pyjama pants, and wished I'd sized up on the pants - for once, the ease on the big 4 patterns was less than expected! The top is enormous, but I have no idea how much ease is required to starfish in bed, so I'll probably make the same size next time. Might add gussets or something to more easily flop about. Overall, I'm calling this a success. Already planning the next pair, and dying to put piping on everything. I feel like I'm reaching a point where I'm able to more consistently make clothes I'm happy with, and it's THRILLING. #sewistsofinstagram #sewing #ontariosews #millenialsewing

Completed slightly later than planned, but I've sewn up a pair of pyjamas ready for summer. I quite enjoyed having a slow and steady sew on this one and I didn't struggle too much following the instructions. I made views A and C for the short sleeved pyjama top and shorts, and the pattern required no adjustments to make. The fabric was a beautiful Rose & Hubble constellation print which seemed really appropriate for nightwear, and feels really nice to wear. Whilst making this I had my first time sewing with piping, and for a first attempt I don't think it turned out too badly. I fell in love with the buttons as soon as I saw them while trying to find a themed match, and I think it sets off the make really well. I'll definitely give this pattern another go in the future. It does feel like the top comes up quite big, but the pattern does advise it's a loose fit, so I don't mind that. Slow sewing. Tie-dyed fabric for coordinating pajamas. Top is modified #vogue8536 (faux crossover) a good bodice fit for me. Pants are modified #simplicity8518 with pockets stolen from #butterick6296 because half of my arm fits inside. Fabric is 100% cotton jersey from #dharmatradingco dyed with #dharmaprociondyes color alpine blue. The dye pattern on top was achieved by tying many, many pennies for overall spotty design (see photo 7). Pattern matching on pants was a lucky coincidence. My favourite pjs of all time!! My 'sewing' pjs! I absolutely love this brushed cotton print from @fabricgiant, it's so fun. My lovely in--laws bought me the Butterick #b6296 pattern for Christmas from @hobbycrafthq and it was perfect for it. I only had 3m of fabric and it was only 110cm wide, so it was a struggle to make it work, but I played a good game of pattern tetris! I used piping for the first time too and luckily it sewed up well with my zipper foot. I bought the piping from @minervadotcom and I think it really finishes it off, making them extra special.
