After failing to finish making an outfit for a wedding last fall, I was so relieved I could debut THIS dress on time for another wedding! 👗 It’s got wonderful movement and yet I simultaneously feel like a painting. While I originally planned to make a bustier dress, the fitting process got the best of me, so I had to abandon that idea in order to finish ANYthing in time. I instead turned to my trusty McCall’s hacked #M8195M8211combo that I’ve now made 4 times! (I haven’t posted the 3rd yet; it’s coming eventually.) The combination is #M8211 View A’s sleeves / back bodice and #M8195’s skirt / bodice (but shirred). I gathered and lengthened the circle skirt to 24”, and added a contrast tier in a different print from the same fabric collection. I slashed & spread the bodice’s “cups” to be more suitable for my chest shape…I think McCall’s drafts for B cup (I’m G), so my edits gave me a better gathered look, and the bottom cup seam doesn’t ride up. This dreamy fabric is from the “Painterly Petals” collection from Robert Kaufman, which I bought 2 years ago for a patchwork dress that I ended up never starting. Oops! Earlier this year I spotted the brand Batsheva using prints from this same fabric collection (under the name “Monet”), and those visuals brought my floral green dream back into focus! Luckily I already had it stashed and could cut into it when inspiration finally hit! And I convinced my dude Brian to sew his tie (last photo) using another print from the same collection, also from my stash. Just a hint of matching 🌸🌿 I was not prepared for how long it would take to sew ruffles onto a midi circle skirt, but then I measured the circle hem and it was around 23 ft (7m!), so the time-suck made more sense. #clowncore meets picnic dress! I’m a party clown 🤡 Just in time for the last day of #MeMadeMay! For MMM, my pledge was to fix and/or finish as many WIPs and older makes as possible (didn’t get through much sadly), so here is another finished oldie. I started sewing it last August, but set it aside after constructing the bodice — I found it toooo busy due to the ruffles I added to the sleeves and neckline when paired with this print. More recently I decided to simplify the top half, because this @pigeonwishes.shops fabric is SO amazing and deserves to be worn 🌈✨ Sleeves, begone! And I like the resulting scrunchie straps. It’s still a busy dress, but simplified juuust enough. Last week, I finished up sewing a new dress and had a great time wearing it! The pattern is McCalls 8211, and the fabric from @stonemountainfabric. 🦋DRESS🦋 Everyone wanted to get involved with these photos! I made this dress last summer while I was pregnant (see 3rd pic!), wanting something that would last til full term and also be suitable for breastfeeding. Nowadays I mostly wear it with the harness to give it a little /edge/. It’s a slightly hacked McCalls #m8211, with the sleeves, top bodice and skirt from view B, the lower ruffle added from view C, and a shirred midsection to remove the need for a zipper. The fabric was super cheap “craft cotton” from Spotlight that I’d bought a few months earlier on a whim and I feel like it suits this dress shape SO well!! A repeat pattern for sure, it came out pretty cute! Created View A with McCalls 8211 using a bright floral and animal print cotton found at a thrift store. The length is shorter than I am used to and the sleeves were a nightmare, but I am hoping once I make it again I can improve. Loving the off shoulder sleeves with elastic on the band and the invisible zipper is invisible after many attempts. Fun pattern to see come together! Off to welcome in spring and Carousel Day. This is another McCalls #m8211 (view A). Eeeked the skirt out of the little bit of fabric I had (a fun semi-sheer cotton plaid I got from the remnant bin). And of course, modification to add pockets! If you're thinking to yourself "I wonder if cutting the waistband on the bias caused it to stretch horribly" you would be correct. There are two monster darts in the back now :)
