#wintersewingprojects on my new electric sewing table is a coat for a grandson who lives in the cold south west of our state. This (like his quilt) has been a while in the planning and making) but is coming together nicely. He selected the fabric from @homecraft.textiles (I erred with saying it was textile traders🤦🏻‍♀️) and wanted it lined with fluffy fabric from for warmth. I had some thick blue fleece that I decided after the fact to quilt 🤦🏻‍♀️. A bit tricky but I’m glad I did as it has come up a treat. First time doing a removable hood that attached beautifully to collar. Pattern is a @mimigstyle #s9052 view A, and her YouTube tutorial is brilliant. •My Mega Jean Jacket• I've been trying to get away from buying fabric and then wondering what the hell I'm going to do with it - but it happens. I'm only human. I found/bought this pleated, fused denim from @fabricgodmother with intentions of some kind of jacket. Decided to make something relaxed/oversized because it's pretty heavy and bulky and doesn't want to be overworked. Pattern is #Simplicity9052 which I've made before and I wear it all the time - it's a nice big casual jacket that's easy to throw on. Made a size M. I used 125/20 needles and broke a few of them. The pockets, seams, we're talking maybe 10 layers of denim in places. Why did I do this myself?! Mixed up the direction of the pleats, up/down/sideways. Added some decorative but not functional snaps to break up the denim (my industrial snap setter can get the front but not the back of the snap attached) But it worked! Just got this coat finished for a work trip to rainy Bergen. This is my new Parker and I love it! This was an enjoyable sew with not too many f**k ups on my part. Pattern is S8052 by @mimigstyle Made in the Medium and I shortened the arms I think about 2’’ as it’s a unisex pattern. Fabric was a waterproof cotton twill I found at the back of @fabworksmillshop warehouse when I visited in the summer. It is lovely to work with and was self lined so easy to slip the final coat on and off. Day 16 #memademay2022 chilly morning drop off in my @simplicity_creative_group #s9052 parka. This jacket has a lot of fun details worked into the pattern. If you’re interested in the changes I made to the pattern, or more detailed images, I have a long post further down. I still have to insert a waist drawstring, just realized!! It’s kind of pointless, as much as I love it. Not warm enough for really chilly weather (my own fault) and doesn’t block wind or water. I’ve been wanting to make a parka for a long time now and I found the #simplicity #s9052 I love the gabardine colour but can’t remember where I got it from! It is quite large and if I were to make it again I would size down. I enjoyed making it and the instructions were fine but a new sewer may find them tricky. The hood is rather large too and the dots don’t match up so getting it in the right place took a lot of effort and measuring. As for the zips???? Do we fasten our zips differently to America? Assuming this was printed in America. But the open and close on the zips were the opposite way round to the instructions so that took awhile to get my head round! So those of you who watch my YouTube channel will know that this parka jacket/coat was a long time in the planning and making. My husband asked me to make him a parka when we were watching the 2022 Great British Sewing Bee. I finally got round to sewing this pattern up in January after having the pattern cut out for months. I think having Christmas out of the way gave me the headspace to crack on and the @northernsewlsisters were also also running #sewjacketswithnss which inspied me to get cracking! The pattern is the Simplicity S9052 which is a great MimiG Style pattern and she has done an amazing tutorial on YouTube. The pattern is unlined except for the hood. The fabric I used is quite lightweight so will be perfect item for spring and autumn. The fabric was a deadstock barbour fabric from the wonderful @jennystitchesfabrics. Jenny was wonderful and put together my own kit essentially with all the haberdashery I needed and the pattern. Finally finished this #mimigstyle rain jacket (#S9052)for my husband ...I think it turned out well. We differed from the pattern a bit to adhere to his taste such as, side pockets were added, I lined it because it's a rain jacket (material Soft Shell - FELIX - Sage from #fabricville) and I thought, you know keep the wet away from the body as much as possible also hubs never wears hoods so...yeah..no hood. My husband never actually buttons up his coats if there's a zipper so yeah one snap at the top just so it doesn't flap but still keeps the rain out. Didn't bother with the draw string just used the tabs intended for the cuffs in the back instead to give it a bit of shape. There was a lot if hand sewing on this project basting and at times I just found it easier to handsew.🤷🏿‍♀️. I’m into sewing again so I made this shacket the other day. I used @mimigstyle pattern #s9052. She has sew alongs for her patterns so I used that instead of the written instructions. I opted for snaps instead of buttons because this seems like the type of jacket one might have to bust out of. No time for fiddling with buttons. The fabric is a stretch twill from @moodfabrics

This floral fabric and a spring coat just were meant to go together. The fabric was purchased last May after seeing Karen’s @intostitches gorgeous coat. By the end of May, the temperatures heat up too much for a coat so I just didn’t get the fabric sewn. This year, I was determined to make this coat and our spring has been very cool so it is perfect timing. I used a Mimi G unisex pattern, Simplicity 9052, which is a parka styled garment. I love all the details and includes many pictures to show these details ⬅️ to see These details include - lots of pockets - tab on sleeve -inside casing and drawstring with cord-stoppers -back shoulder detail, great for extra movement (what is the technical term for this?) -front zipper cover -long length and curved back hem -back vent with drawstring added to the hem and the bow detail I have included lots of details on my blog post (link in profile) I am so excited to wear this coat and to add a floral one to my spring garment collection. Ever since this pattern came out I have been anxiously awaiting to complete it! I finally got around to it and once I gathered all 142638937996 pieces that I needed to complete the project, away I went! When I got the fabric I saw that it had a reversible side that was a complementary soft lilac color that I had to incorporate into the jacket. Finally! I've completed this project for my nephew which was started since the beginning of January 2022. This lovely Black Wool that is washable in cold water, hang to dry is soft and luxurious and the soft Blue Brushed Sateen lining are from @Fabriclandontario in Owen Sound. (They helped me pick out the perfect fabric Thank You!!) It was fun to make but I didn't want to rush through it as the fabric is sooo precious 🤗. And the coat is finally finished. #s9052 is a unisex coat that I selected after seeing @chrisbarratt_85 post his. This is for a fast growing adolescent/teenager and while I made the small, I suspect it will fit my grandson when he is middle aged! Very generous sizing. There is no chance his younger brother or any of his male cousins will ever get to have this as a hand-me-down! Which means more coats need to be planned for the other grandsons. I’m off to deliver it personally to the lad in the Southern Forests region of WA. After my joyous celebrations of achieving near perfect buttonholes on the #bernina735 that then had to be unpicked (rookie error as @missjanesews announced out loud 😂) I elected to replace with anorak snaps as the coat was too heavy to manage another round of buttonholes. This coat will keep arctic winds at bay.
