First project of 2024: Frankenstein Bomber Jacket using 3 different patterns and 3 different fabrics from @houseofmamiwata 💙💛🤍 I had an idea in my mind months ago, falling in love for the sleeves from #v1891 and marrying that on a really cool bomber jacket, with hood #m7637. Yet I thought adding length would also be cool like the varsity bomber from KnowMe pattern of Sins of Many #ME2010. As I was dreaming and collecting patterns and fabric over the next couple of months, I came across the awesome sleeves on Beaut'e J'adore's McCall pattern! So happy to have found a jacket pattern that works well over full sleeves! ♥️♥️♥️ This is #Vogue1891 in a weighty 100% cotton Kaufman Sevenberry (Nara Homespun Geometric Red) fabric. The pattern describes various methods for clean finishing the insides ~ great for beginners. I used a combination of French seams, flat felled seams, and Hong Kong binding. Although I had four yards of fabric, the width was narrow and I didn’t have enough to include the hood. I think that ended up for the best though! 😊 The only other modification I made was to use two buttons and make fabric button loops. Swipe for close-ups 😊 I’m wearing the jacket over my latest #m7969 (last post). The fabrics for both of these makes were purchased especially for these patterns and to coordinate with each other ~ a level of pre-planning that I rarely manage! I’m really happy with both and how well they work together. Rare bonus 2nd post today to share pics and mods made to #V1355. Sharing for my friend Stephanie @thestitchuationroom who recently made the same Sandra Betzina pants which were re-released by @mccallpatterncompany along with a jacket as #V1891. I have made this set multiple times, usually in ity knit. This white ity wasn’t quite opaque enough so I fully lined the pants with a tricot knit. The pants are a pretty heavily modified size B. 2 1/2” were added to the length and a total of 4” removed from cf/cb at top tapering to 0” just above the crotch curve. The waistband was cut based on the amount of give in the fabric-enough stretch to make it over the hip while remaining comfortably snug at the waist - probably 6” smaller than drafted due to the high stretch of the ITY. The tank top is a size C. The duster is a #cookieknitshirt by the fabulous @naughtybonbins, lengthened to a duster, also in ity. I'm just squeezing in for #memademay This coat is something I made for my daughters birthday this year. The pattern was #V1891. I used ringspun denim for the main fabric and duck cotton for the contrast. Although I've been a sewer since my early teens, I'm really trying to challenge myself with new techniques, and with this coat I finished it with Hong Kong seams, making my own continuous binding, and also flat felled seams where appropriate. An open-ended zipper was also inserted... another new experience. I love the fall of the hemline at the back, and the bell-shaped sleeves and dramatic hood are such a feature.
