💎 When Dorothy met Dr Seuss 💎
I’ve had the idea for this #wizardofoz x #drseuss mash up for almost as long as I’ve been sewing. I put it off because, well, it was more than a little ridiculous. But the idea wouldn’t go away.
And so, l finally made the damn thing. And I’m kicking myself because this is cuuute. So, in this #memademay month, can I encourage you to just make the thing that you’re dreaming about. It might work, it might not. But you should make it (if you can).
The @simplicitymccallsaustralia pattern for Dorothy’s pinafore includes this gorgeous puff sleeve blouse and pinafore but the construction has them turn into a single garment (I get it, it’s a costume). I mostly followed the instructions (I made some minor changes to give a cleaner internal finish) but I actually have plans to make both these pieces again and will change things up slightly to make them separate - essentially cutting two bib pieces to create a standalone pinafore and changing the back zip on the shirt for buttons.
I shortened the bodice by about 3” which did push the top of the pinafore up into my underarms but eh, it’s barely noticeable and I got the proportions I wanted. I increased the SA at the bust side seams to give the fitted look I was going for. I also deliberately left off the bottom two skirt pieces but if you have gingham or stripes you can have a lot of fun with directional play.
I also adore these glorious buttons that @teggunashleigh sent me at fortuitously the right time. Cute, colourful and one-of-a-kind buttons can be hard to find but these handpainted beauties were perfect for this make. She’s also just launched her full range and they look perfect for quite a few of my upcoming projects.
