I’ve completed one front leg. This is definitely #slowsewing but I’m enjoying the precision (or at least I hope I’m being precise). I’m making sure I read the instructions carefully and my walking foot has been invaluable. I don’t think I’d be able to keep the pleats from pulling without it. I sewed up my outfit for my 23rd wedding anniversary night out. I used @simplicity_creative_group #voguepatterns #V1868 view A for the top with external sleeve facings and @just_patterns #yasmeenskirt for the bottom. I was going for long, clean lines, a minimalistic feel, and an industrial color palate. I used an old stash fabric from @fashion_fabrics_club : a heavyweight rayon/poly blend stretch antique satin, matte in some angles/lighting, but has a shine in others. It also has a color shift, changing from a blue/gray to a pure gunmetal. After a mockup, the only mods for the top were to size down one size, then increase the size of the neck opening 1/4" to accommodate my big head. For the skirt, I was between sizes. The larger size looked great on the non-stretch mockup, but I had to size down in the end because my fabric has some stretch. Because the fabric wouldn't hold a press, I ended up making topstitching a feature. That way, I could top stitch all my serged seam allowances down and not worry about them flopping out of place during wear. I used narrow horsehair braid for the skirt hem, topstitching that down. I used petersham ribbon to face the waistband. I chose to install a lapped zip so that the topstitching down the center back seam would blend into the zipper install. I am pretty pleased with the outcome, and my favorite feature is actually the labels on the inside (see pics). This pattern piece is huge! I’ve sewed up the lining and it seems to fit ok, just a bit tricky to tell without gathering the waist, so I’m going for it and cutting out the trousers in a size C. Everything needs to be cut in one layer and the fold lines tailor tacked. #v1868 is hard on the knees! I’m usually ok cutting out on the floor (and the pattern piece was too big for our table) but I could have done with some knee pads! Is everyone else crawling around cutting or do you all have tables? I’ve finally got all the pieces cut out (there’s not even that many!). I just need to transfer the markings onto the second front. It’s been a while but I finished these a few months ago and then didn’t get round to taking any pictures because I immediately hated them! Having seen them in a photo rather than the mirror they don’t seem as bad. They’re just a bit shorter than I wanted (not fixable, you hem before you sew them up) and the lining fabric rustles a bit (probably that will stop after a bit of wear? Or I could remove it). Sometimes I just irrationally take against things I make but fall back in love a few a months down the line! My back to school project is #Vogue1868 I’m going to make view C inspired by some Commes des Garçons trousers (2nd pic). They say they are new season but I’m sure they must have done something similar previously as I bought the pattern and fabric ages ago. There don’t seem to be many versions of this pattern about so I hope that’s not a bad sign! I’m unsure of the sizing for today’s fit patterns, I’ve gone with a C (but my waist is a B) and I’ve cut the lining out first to check the fit. I love when my vision turns out better than I imagined. I had some leftover fabric from a cape that I made a friend a few years back. I wanted a funky piece of outerwear for a Christmas party, but couldn’t settle on exactly what it should be. I flipped through my patterns and saw Vogue’s #v1868 . I politely turned that top into a quarter length sleeved jacket. It was actually perfect for yesterday’s weather. I decided to completely line it , as opposed to adding the prescribed facings.
