Yes, I am a nice friend 😘Made this basic black classic knit wrap dress for a friend who is going on a trip to Italy in September. Cotton jersey with lycra from @girlcharlee Pattern is #vintagevoguepattern #V1610 a DVF design which is pattern perfection. Swipe to see the pattern envelope and the version I made for myself last year. I think I need a long sleeve version of this dress for winter, maybe in a solid but never in black (at least not for me!!!) .. .. And in the background what is that? I’m in the midst of making a stand alone video class on how to make a muslin - the thing you make to check the fit and style of a garment. It will be available via @hellostitchstudio if I ever get it finished but with our 100ºF temperatures I’m not accomplishing much lately - even with air conditioning. The class won’t cover fitting specifically (so many resources for that) but how to mark and sew the test garment for maximum utility. Just like sewing garments I think it’s all about the markings 😊 And how to take those adjustments back to your paper pattern. .. .. Also in the works I will be doing a blazer class via Zoom starting in October. During the last year our online classes were really well received and we learned that for some people they are more convenient than coming to the studio in person. So I think it will be a 6-week class with instruction and live sessions. Today I dressed in honor of my mother, grandmothers and beautiful daughter @ledbetsey whose portrait I am standing in front of. If I could be with them today, this is what I would wear. The dress is the Tyrelle by @pearlredmoonart, who creates unique pieces of clothing from thrifted fabrics and many embellishments. I love the Tyrelle because of its fit, the cocoon shape, set in sleeves, box pleat and bound pocket openings. https://www.pearlredmoon.com/2019/02/new-pattern-tyrelle.html?m=1 When I make it again I will extend the pocket bag for comfort and practicality. I wasn’t happy with the fit at the neckline and this great dress languished for a whole year waiting for me to deal with it. I love my solution, I sewed a tuck on each side of the neck and found two vintage buttons in the button box to accent the break in the neckline. I like the early 20th century vibe they give the dress. Rosie peed on me this morning when I was bringing her back in. It’s raining out, so I don’t blame her. However, she is banished to the hallway until she dries off. I scrubbed her, and myself, down with Castile soap. She’s still a little damp. Luckily, I’m working from home 🙄. Hi all, in Sydney we are still in lockdown and I miss the ocean and the mountains and of course my DD. I’m so grateful that I sew. Now I am even getting around to altering stuff. This is the classic #v1610 Sandra Bettina robe that I sewed up a couple of years ago. I made view A extended it to calf length, but what I really had was something that looked like a incomplete View B. I should have gone with SB’s design proportions 😸 Well, I’ve finally fixed it by adding 32cm to the front bands. I like it a lot better! My second attempt at a lined kimono style jacket using pattern Vogue 1610 (my daughter is wearing my first 😬). I pieced together the lining from scraps of fabric scavenged from Camberwell Market. Test garments...a necessary evil 🙈🙉🙊 . It may be that I am too nervous to cut into my 🌵 fabric...I made not one, but two different test garments to gauge whether I like the pattern or not. ☺ . Vintage Vogue #v7295 (left) is an elegant pattern which I wanted to love but I wasn't pleased with the construction instructions. Too many angles made the inside of the garment messy, a big deterrent in my opinion. Also sewing the collar band to the dress is a %#&!😈. I like it enough to wear around the house but it's not the right pattern for the 🌵. . Sandra Betzina's Vogue #v1610 (right)View B is a simple kimono robe with an interesting pocket detail; It is sewn directly onto the front panel. Although I cut the smallest size it is large on me ( I don't know my RTW size since I haven't purchased clothes in some years but for reference I cut McCalls size 8-10). .
