This week instead of a dress I made a slip from a thrifted bed sheet and #s8456. While it reminds me of why I do not like low or drop waists I still think it came out both pretty and practical. I will say it's a strange feeling being both so covered up and yet like I'm taking photos in my underwear. I almost just posted the garment sans me. Since I started #week13 of the #52weeksewingchallenge early, I was able to get it finished today. Now I have the rest of the week to do other things! This week’s theme is “upcycle something”. I needed a puffer-upper for under some of these vintage and circle skirts and dresses. Using Simplicity’s 8456, I cut the pieces for the bodice from an old vintage slip. I also rescued the trim from the bottom of the slip to use as the top trim and reused the straps. The bottom portion is one layer of woven cotton and two layers of mesh. (The pattern is only one single layer but it wasn’t enough puff.) #MeMadeMay2021 Day 15 Finally took a photo of this dress! Charm Patterns Cinch It Dress. I’ve worn it a few times and the lightweight rayon crepe is fluffy and light to wear. Can say I loved sewing with it. I will def make this again (shirred waist is so forgiving) but in a slightly more substantial fabric. I’m also wearing a petticoat I made to give some oomph... The @simplicity_creative_group pattern has a waistband, which I prefer over a folded over elastic casing from the by Butterick. The yoke in the Simplicity is 7 inches long, while the Butterick is 10. The upper tier in the Simplicity is 10 inches, and the Butterick is 9.5. The lower tier in the Simplicity is 14 inches, and the Butterick is 10. More checks? Check! Today was cold so Stitch and I have been wearing matching long socks and sweaters. Weirdly enough, Stitch loves socks- he holds his feet out to get them on, and pokes his tongue out. On the rare occasion he’s not in the mood to be wearing socks, he gets his front feet and pushes them away. Starting to tackle the next project on my #makenine2018 list, a copy of this polka dot dress Marilyn wore (apparently I have a thing for blue and white polka dot prints right now). I’ve been a bit unwell lately, and feeling demotivated and debilitated (don’t you just hate that? Planning my #makenine2022 around patterns I already own and fabrics already in my stash! I had a little project planning paralysis so this was a good exercise and I'm really excited now. 1. Dress with sleeves based on #s8292 with basic bodice and #charmcircleskirt made out of @ikea duvet cover I got in the as is section. 2. Jeans from some @joann_stores denim, thinking about using #s8516 but may hold out until @helens__closet releases their new jeans pattern. 👀 3. Dress that is a hacked version of #m7920 with set in sleeves using @dearstellafab leaf print cotton. 4. Black shorts hacked from #m7626 and made with a cotton twill from @fabricdotcom 5. A cotton petticoat with #s8456 to wear with all my dresses and skirts! 6. @joann_stores Rainbow cotton gauze #winslowculottes inspired by the pair @ayellowkitchen made. 7. #m7952 but with a zipper in the back instead of buttons to make it more comfortable. Gonna use this adorable tablecloth I got on eBay because I was inspired by the Luana apron dress @less.thansimple made with it and tracked it down immediately. 8. #b6390 in the same denim as the jeans. Will be perfect for layering with dresses as it is a cropped style jacket. 9. A dress based on #s9294 / #b6556 but with a different neckline for my incredible @dearstellafab Sew Mischievous fabric. My daughter had Sadie Hawkins dance last night and she had such a wonderful time with her friends! I was asked to take pictures of them and we were joking and laughing a lot. They are an amazing group of kids who are smart, funny and kind. It was such a privileged to be a small part of the evening.
