I'm having a dreamy statement sleeve moment! Loving the romantic floatiness of the double sleeve layers and I'm chuffed that this fabric has finally got its moment because I hunted it out at a car boot sale a few years ago. It's a man made lightweight fabric and I like the vintage design in muted colours. I sewed this blouse pattern to take part in the #sewnwithbutterick challenge being hosted this month by @minervadotcom and its a good one. I used French seams which made completing the shaped hem tricky but not impossible and next time I may add a third sleeve layer for extra froth! Let's talk about sewing challenges. I challenged myself to cut and sew a garment in 1 hour this afternoon. I got the idea after watching so many of my fellow sewists proclaim "it only took me an hour" to make x,y,and z. Hakama-esque vibes in this skirt. Wish I had had enough for dramatic pleats in front. Broke back out my first print out pattern I ever did for this wonderful Japanese woven dyed yarn I bought last year for pants but ended up being too narrow. It was a precut in the jinbei fabric section. #peppermintwrapskirt by @peppermintmagazine paired with my #b6685 Lopped off a fair chunk of length (~15cm) and had to play pattern Tetris and Frankenstein piece together most of the tie waistband to stripe match and fit it all on 2 meters of 110cm width fabric. I'm convinced this shirt exists somewhere on a pirate romance novel cover from the 80s. ✌️ So extra, but I love it. #b6685 in orange bubble double gauze. Sized down but graded back out in the hip. Beware that the meterage listed for 115cm fabric on the back for view C is about a half meter short. Had to order more fabric for the larger sleeve tier. Psst, @mccallpatterncompany Modification: - Added 1cm inwards on the neckline shoulder seam but need to add a bit more next time around. - Shortened front slit. -Battled the double gauze by using flat felled seams in the sleeves, using interfacing tape everywhere and banroll-rolled all the pesky narrow hems. I wish I had added just a little more length on the back to have it be tunic length. Here’s the detail I promised for you today!! Look at this thread!! It’s from @coatsandclark and is a variegated thread. How pretty is that?! I bought it a while ago, but this is my first time using a thread like this, and I’m in love. It literally is just one spool of thread that has an assortment of colors on it. Well, hello, ruffle sleeves!!😍 As soon as I saw this pattern, I had to purchase it!! I love everything about it from the wide boat-neck and self-tie belt, which both help to give you an hourglass figure to the curved hem, and then, finally to the best part-cascading, ruffle sleeves!! I used the prettiest shade of light aqua fabric from @farmhousefabrics (and look how crisp and clean this cotton is🥰 It’s perfect for a summer top!) I got the last piece of this amazing paisley and there wasn't enough to make the top I had in mind, but I knew it was coming home with me. I really wanted to showcase the colour and patterns of the fabric so I used Butterick 6685, which is such a useful design, the two bodice pieces allow for creative placement and the sleeves just do their thing! A few weeks ago I was privileged to teach my first sewing class @rocketcitysewcial_ . We sewed #b6685 during our Sip and Sew and had a blast! I also showed the students how to hack the blouse into a dress. I made my dress from a really cute plaid flannel. Finally cut into this cute Ankara fabric I bought at Fine Fabrics in 2019. I made this summer set using #s1165 for the shorts and #B6685 for the blouse. I also made a matching tie belt but it blended too well with the fabric, I also tried pairing it with a black ribbon, but that got lost in the fabric too. Biggest change I made this go round with #b6685 is using bias tape to finish the armholes and hemline.
