I made Simplicity pattern #S9740 for church … and well, we kind of overslept yesterday and my dress wasn’t finished. 😬 So instead I had a quiet, slow sewing session yesterday where I finished my dress and told myself that I can wear it on another Sunday. If you’re curious about the fit… well, I bought the wrong pattern size envelope and so this is a size 12. But in all honesty, we’re going to consider this fit a WIN. 😜 Cutting a size 12 was a risky gamble since I usually range around a 16 in knit patterns. But I actually love how snug this is. I was worried about the print not matching on the front, and I see it, but I know I did my best. I’m going to keep on living. Me pretending to be that rich aunty😌. I sewed #s9740 using this liverpool knit fabric I purchased from Hobbylobby 3 years ago. I love it, love it. And I know I got it right when my mum and my sister asked where I bought it from and with tears in my eyes, I said ‘I made it’😄. My offer to make matching striped shirts was respectfully declined (i.e. met with some 🙄 🙄 from the kiddos), so I guess it’ll just have to be for me instead. But seriously, who wouldn’t want to match with these cuties? 🐿️ 🐿️ . For my striped shirt, I used @mimigstyle Simplicity #S9740–I cut out this pattern in a shorter length to wear as a top rather than as a dress. The pattern has a center seam in front and back, but I cut out each of the front and back as one piece (eliminating the center seam) and sewed in a box pleat below the placket. #memademay2024 Day 6 is #S9740 a @mimigstyle dress shortened into a top. I went up 2 sizes in the bust and cut an 18, then shortened the pattern. I also removed the center front seam so I didn’t have to worry about the pattern matching there. The fabric is a stretch velour knit with a metallic wave pattern emboss from @fabricmart. Seeing the back now in photos I think I’d probably also remove the center back seam with any fabric that has a nap or pattern.⁣ ⁣ I debated adding a few inches to the sleeve length but ultimately didn’t, and I think if I make this again I will add about 3” so it has less of a flutter to the sleeve shape. I've been wrapping up some of the sewing projects lingering in my room all summer and/or spring 🤪 #sewjudgementfreezone, but fall🍁🍂 is here in full swing and I'm ready to grab something familiar to reset my sew flow. Wore #S9741 @simplicity_creative_group a couple of weeks back when the temps dropped, and I think this deserves a revisit to my table. I found this to be a quick and non complicated sew and paired with the right knit fabric makes for "dressed and ready to go" when I'm pinched for time. A speedy Sunday Sew! 🧡 While I love a dress I sometimes think it would be nice to spend time sewing up a few pieces I’ll get a lot more wear from day to day - and today I decided to tackle one of those projects!
