1940s summer tie top 💙💗💚My second version of this top. I made some alterations to make the sleeves a little bit more puffed on top of the shoulder (not really perceptible but the fit feels better) and I brought the back in slightly. I'll be honest, the overall fit of this top still confuses... Is it supposed to be tight when tied up? Mine is not, despite sizing down, and the tighter I tie the knot, the higher up my chest it travels. I can't seem to get it right. Maybe I'll try again next year 😅 3rd times a charm! I made the skirt from #simplicity8654, which is just a gathered skirt but with a fun waistband. I lengthened it to make a confortable flowy skirt. For the matching top I used the #presleyshirt from Gertie, and it wasn't great. The smallest size isn't right for me so I had to redraw the armholes, take in all the seams, omit the pocket. I forgot to check the buttons placement and had to add a snap button so it doesn't gape. I won't make it again for myself (but love it for my boyfriend). BUT : The shirt doesn't look nice tucked in the skirt because of the large waistband (shown in last picture with a tighter shirt tucked in) . So I found a nicer way, by tieing it on top of the waistband. Me again wearing my pink trousers ☺️ I can't tell you how happy these trousers make me, and the fact I've worn them literally non-stop is so pleasing! 🔹1940s Linen Shorts🔹 Successful project! They turned out really well fitted and the fabric is such a perfect match for them - it's natural and airy but as it's medium weight it keeps the pleats reeeally nicely and looks just 👌👌👌 They're really comfortable, and I love the slightly skirt look they have. Pattern - I've made the pattern before so I knew I needed to make some alterations to the basic shape based on my last project and then amazingly it didn't need any tweaking while I was sewing it. Fabric - the linen blend fabric was so lovely to sew with because it can be pressed and stitched so neatly without any movement or puckering etc. I also love the slub on the fabric, I always have loved to be able to see the weave and texture in natural fabric. 🕰️ 1940s pleated shorts 🕰️ My favourite patterns to collect are vintage ones. And while I have accumulated a large collection, I struggle to find bottom patterns in my size. Not a shock since what is average now, was not then. That’s why I love that @simplicity_creative_group are reissuing so many of their vintage patterns (particularly multi-sized since I need to grade across sizes). This is a pattern I’ve had for a while. Fabric also not new to stash. And, it’s also been made, hanging on the back of a door for almost 6mths waiting for photos (took me ages to make this yellow top to match which will hit the grid soon too and is turning into a wardrobe MVP). I’m not sure I love the rayon for this pattern. I also don’t love that there’s only one pocket and it’s not deep enough to shove my hands in. But. I do love the style, and I love the deep pleats which give the impression of a cute skirt when standing still. And I can twirl to my hearts content without worrying my underwear is also on display. I made an 18 but with a 1.2m remnant that was only 139cm wide, I had to narrow the back pleats by 1cm each to fit on the fabric. So the back doesn’t have quite the drama it should. I do have plans to make again. I think I’ll use a drapey/lightweight cotton rather than rayon, I’ll widen the waistband slightly, and I’ll figure out how to put in a pocket with a side zip closure. New top for summer! I have been trying a ton of cropped top patterns over the last couple of weeks- making muslin after muslin searching for a pattern that I felt suited my body shape. I can’t think of a single woven pattern that I have not had to modify but some are initially more flattering and workable than others. I have spent a lot of time in hermit mode- mostly staying away from news and social media but during this time I feel I have gained the self confidence to explore some patterns I typically avoided- specifically things that show more skin. In addition to new self confidence, I desperately wanted to find some patterns to use up some of my smaller cuts of fabric. This #simplicity8654 top in a sleeveless version was just the ticket!! It feels modest while being fun and cheeky and the style pairs so well with my #picnicskirtbygertie 🎉 on my short torso, the back of the top comes all the way to my skirt waistband. I had considered raising the top hem a bit in the back but actually really love how the length makes this look like a full dress from behind. ✳️🔷1940s Linen Shorts🔷✳️ I'm sharing one last summer sewing project! I've got this amazing linen blend fabric from the core range at @minervadotcom and after going through every garment option I circled back around to a classic pair of summer shorts. I wanted these to be a staple pair of shorts that I would wear lots and lots, so they had to fit really well, be a perfect and comfortable length and feel special but suitable for any kind of outing. I felt like linen was perfect for this because it's both dressy and casual. The colourway I chose is this 'soft aqua' which is a really delicate nearly blue-green-mint and in my wardrobe is a neutral (I have a similar blue cardy and a pair of green bottoms that just match everything else in my wardrobe, it's like magic). Fell in love with this Vogue tie-fronted top so decided to make a co-ord outfit for summer (although summer may have already been and gone, it's been 🌧☔️🌨☔️🌨 here for weeks!) I'm not normally a green clothes type person but this fabric caught my eye in a remnant bin at Abakhan stores in Preston and I couldn't resist! It's some kind of slighty shiny viscose I think. The top is intended to be worn alone and tied tightly under the bust, but as I made a longer and looser version mine definitely requires a modesty camisole top underneath! Maybe I'll just copy the actual pattern pieces next time and see what happens! A very good hair day and a very cute 1940s beach set in linen from @wearethefabricstore This was one of my early attempts at French seams last year, and still features the dreaded fiddly, polyester zipper which I will eventually remove and replace with snaps to make my life easier. My #Simplicity #S8654 vintage sun suit is complete! I used an earth-toned cotton poplin from The Fabric Market and rayon thread from #JoAnnsFabric (huge mistake because the rayon snapped when I tried to gather the skirt and then I had to pleat it instead 🤦‍♀️) and I think the zipper for the skirt is from JoAnns too, and that was the lot! It’s really a pretty simple sew, and even simpler if you DON’T miscut your waist band! 😂 So glad I’ve got another outfit for our honeymoon done and dusted! #sewing #garmentsewing #fridayvibes

Vacation wardrobe making commence😂 So I’ve narrowed a few choices down ( may add more 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️) My rational is I need 2 outfits per day and 1 additional outfit for dinner SO I did go threw my fabric stash and pulled fabrics I already had YAY ME 🎉 and these are my choices so far 1. Charm Patterns Picnic Set in Lavender& white Gingham 2. #S8654 Bought this PinUp at the beach fabric and coordinating navy blue cotton 2 yrs ago 3. S1166 in what I call A Girl & her coffee fabric I made this pattern before in the infamous Barbie fabric and swore I’d make it again 4. S8645 Top in Cherry Print fabric & S8342 Cigarette Pants in Red stretch Sateen 5. Charm Pattern Jane Set Bodice & Matching open front skirt will be in this Grey , Black & Gold Cotton & Black shorts in Black stretch Sateen The remaining patterns are additional possible mix and match pieces I wanna make Also if I have time That bathing suit will be a last minute addition I have 2 months to get it done so I’ll spend my first few days cutting out all my patterns AMBITIOUS?
