This dress was definitely Cinderella inspired. I made this dress using a vintage vogue pattern and the prettiest blue satin from #moodfabrics. I absolutely love how it turned out. I took so long making this dress and learned some things making it, like when you take your time the result is SO much better! You’d think I’d have learned that lesson already. After going down a rabbit hole of clothing inspired by art pieces for the Mondrian dress I made this- it’s inspired by Carlos Amorales’ Black Cloud which I was lucky to see last year. There are around 150 different endangered and critically endangered Lepidoptera species (moths and butterflies) on here- and around 500 butterflies in total (I lost count somewhere along the way). All were drawn to scale by me and cut out of silk scraps ironed to black cotton interfacing using my Dad’s @cricut_anz. Each was hand stitched on to the dress in a painstakingly long process involving a lot of swearing. • • • Linen is a dead stock linen sateen from @wearethefabricstore Silk scraps are from @tengdahlaustralia Cotton interfacing is from @circularsourcing Dress pattern is a hybrid of four skirt panels from @simplicitymccallsaustralia #V8729 and the bodice from #S9297 with the back altered to be a corset back. I made a corset and dressed up to see @thelastdinnerparty last week in Brisbane. Praying they come back so I have excuses to make more corsets and I can take my wheelchair in the mosh pit instead. The band was brilliant; the ✨accessible seating✨ far away from the rest of the crowd, next to the portaloos and that to get to my friend had to push me up a ridiculously steep hill (he and the brakes were working overtime) for my wheelchair to not fit through the security line was less so and put a bit of a dampener on what should’ve been the best night. • • • Top is self drafted in dead stock linen from @wearethefabricstore , corset(which I finished making at 12am is @simplicitymccallsaustralia #B4254 in a cotton coutil from @sewinggem, skirt is a modified underskirt from #V8729 also in a heavyweight linen from #thefabricstore.
