Me Made May Day 3 and I’m just lounging in bed waiting for a zoom birthday party to start and my quesadillas to be ready. Just putting it out there: I love everything I've made this summer. 🍍 I don't say that in an icky way like "oh, it's all so inspired and perfect" because it's not. I say that because this summer collection is made up of a bunch of (mostly) separates that are really versatile and comfortable and, most importantly, wearable. I had some honest conversations with myself about the types of garments I'm most comfortable wearing and what I actually wear in my daily life, and the result is a group of clothes that meets those needs. (And not so many dresses.) #memademay2020 - The good from far, but far from good I loved the concept of this dress (Batik! Cotton! Floral!) when I was planning it but the end result wasn’t as desirable. I wanted a casual wrap dress but this gaped like crazy at the front and I end up having to wear a slip inside to avoid flashing my bra. Grateful that @byhandlondon has come up with a blogpost about fitting the Hannah dress because I think my next sewing project would be to fix this dress. The sun is shining and we’ve almost reached 45 degrees ~ it’s a heatwave!☀️ My duster is from 1969 #simplicity8133 ~ made when I returned to sewing in 2016😃 The fabric is a 1993 mystery mossy green loose weave cotton, and I remember feeling *pretty proud* of my rouleaus!😂 (Do you remember New York Fabrics? Would’ve forgotten that I had this skirt if it were not for #memademay ! This is made up in the same khadi fabric from yesterday’s top and it’s been a looooong while since I last wore this. It’s a #s8133 in View C, hacked to change the overlap of the wrap and I slanted the front panel of the skirt to give it a diagonal look. Don’t think the slant shows up significantly though 🤦🏻‍♀️ It is a tad big now, but that’s the beauty of wrap skirts - just tie it tighter or put on more poppers on the inside to cinch the waistband in 🤗 Paired here with a Zara tee - I have like 6 of these and used to live in constant rotation of them. How 'bout them (pine)apples?! 🍍 This was an interesting project, if only because those pineapples are huge (18"!) so I eliminated any design that would have chopped them up or made them not easy to see. Our longtime customer M. made this wrap skirt, Simplicity 8133, with one of our Japanese linen/cotton prints. Doesn't it look cool and comfortable? She says it’s a great alternative to shorts. (And, unlike shorts, you can wear it to work.) M. says this pattern is a really easy, quick sew. It would be pretty fabulous made up in one of our Naomi Ito linens, with their beautiful soft drape.
