With the new year, a lot of people have set make 9 goals however I never do very well with that challenge. I change my mind quite a lot and either get new ideas and have to do them instantly or procrastinate on plans for ages. So this year, in a bid to reduce my sewing stash I'm setting monthly themes. There is no set amount that I have to sew, but it hopefully will give me direction and encourage me to pick up projects I've had planned for a while. This month's theme is activewear, something that I live in a lot of the time but have made relatively little. I've got some basic leggings and tops lined up and a couple of jackets including this pattern again, which made me realise I had never shared this beauty of a make! This is a quilted version of the S9278 jacket with additional colourblocking and I absolutely love it. It's cosy and warm and most importantly colourful and floral and I'm always getting compliments on it. These trackies nearly destroyed my confidence in sewing in one fell swoop! How hard can it be to make trackies for your teenage son esp when you’ve made swimming shorts, shorts and pjs for him before? 🫣 I carefully measured his rise and other measurements and made them up. 👏👏👏 But, when he wore them, they were far too short for starters (4cm) and the front rise was about 2.5 inches too long! The leg length was totally my bad for not measuring right. The rise was down to him wearing them lower than I’d measured his rise to be. 🤣 I finished them in March and have only just got around to fixing them as I just couldn’t face it. 😅 Anyhow, I now have one happy ‘customer’ who will wear said trackies! 🥰 Fabric was a marled sweatshirt fleece from The Fabric Drop FB group. Given that the weather is still rubbish I’m turning my attention to cool weather sewing. This is my first time sewing with oilskin fabric and I loved it - being able to finger press the seam allowances in place was amazing. This is a dry oilskin camo print fabric from @merchantandmills and the pattern is @simplicity_creative_group #s9278. I sewed view B - jacket with drawstring waist in a size small. I want to be able to layer under this jacket and there’s plenty of room to do that. Makes a great little jacket for hiking - love the big back zipped pocket and front zipped pocket perfect for a phone.
