🕰️ 2024 sewing backlog drags on and on…🕰️ This thaw into Spring has me reflecting on Baby’s First Coat™️! I made this in November, my first foray into the world of wool and her attendant needs: strong needles, tension adjustments, patience. It’s a double vintage special: the wool is from the 1950’s, found at @casablancavintage in Cincinnati and the pattern is a 1940’s beach jacket from @simplicity_creative_group #s8932. The beach jacket style is so simple, requiring no belts or buttons, no collar or fuss. I lined it with my go-to georgette from @moodfabrics. I started so good! Taking my time, I even pattern matched 🥲…then I got bored and rushed the cuff hems miserably so now as punishment I must wear my own slop and drag myself through Ohio winters. Alas, spring is nigh. Sometimes your mock-up will turn out better then the finished project. I love the cherry fabric with the blue shorts! I feel really good in it. I obviously added length to the bikini top, I just wanted to be more confident and comfortable in it. Other edits to the pattern is I added cups to the inside for extra support. I love it! I wanted to make a vintage style bikini, therefore I used the #S8932 vintage simplicity top pattern. The only problem was that the pattern is designed to use a woven fabric and I used a Lycra… That’s why the top came out a bit too big. I tried making a 40s/50s inspired bikini by mix & matching two patterns together and I’m happy with the result 💙👙🪡 I really like the top, but unfortunately it’s a bit too big. Quilt top shorts are probably my new favorite thing and this pattern is absolutely perfect for my body type, not to tight or too loose. The pattern is S8932, a simplicity 1940s swimsuit brief that I modified a bit for ease and comfort.
