I’ve made some PJs for my daughter. The top is a Megan Neilsen Jarrah (which I had to grade down a few sizes as I only had the curvy sized pattern which starts at a size 14 and she’s an 8 🤦‍♀️). It’s still quite oversized, but apparently that meets the brief, so it’s all good. It’s already had some wear as I made it a while back. The pants are Simplicity 8518, which is a slim fit pj pants pattern and although designed for wovens, works well in a relatively stable knit. My daughter really liked the gum blossom jersey that I used for a #shirtno2 and so I purchased more for this project. Fabric for the top is a cotton french terry and the pants are in a Jocelyn Proust designed cotton jersey, both fabrics from @spotlightstores. Day 11 of #memademay2024: Sneaking this in late as have had a super busy day and feeling under the weather so has been pjs all the way this afternoon and evening. Here are my favourite Simplicity #S8518 pj bottoms in a cotton sateen and the t-shirt I made with my Silhouette to wear at our post-wedding breakfast…. which is now the perfect partner to the bottoms. The teen requested some pj pants last week and loved this cute fabric from @spotlightstores. It’s a lovely soft cotton flannelette with sweet bunnies scattered across it. The pattern is Simplicity 8518, a slim fit ‘lounge’ or pj pant pattern with slanty side pockets. This is the second time I’ve sewed them, and I had a few hiccups along the way. This time, I added 5cm at the lengthen/shorten line, and they now fit her 171cm frame perfectly, but I added length without buying additional fabric, so I had to cut the waistband on the cross grain due to insufficient fabric. Also, something odd happened with the waistband as it wasn’t long enough (this didn’t happen last time). A quick solution was to add a panel of approx 10cm centred across the centre back. I also had an overlocking incident when overlocking the pocket piece and cut into the front leg piece by a few cms. Not to worry, a small dart, some tiny zig zagging and a few dabs of FrayStop later, and we’re all ticketty-boo. Lounge pants. These were sewn up for my daughter last winter. I used Simplicity 8518 Women’s XS in a soft cotton flannel. Perfect for hanging out at home. I’m very happy with my plaid matching. The selvage edge was used at the bottom of the pant legs and again for the waist tie. A woven cotton scrap was used for pocket lining to keep the thickness in check. I used buttons that I had on hand. I like how they turned out and she does as well, but it was a lot of work for a pair of pj/ lounge pants 🙄. I have the men’s equivalent pattern, so I’ll be making a pair for my son. #s8518 #sewingforteengirls

Because most of my pajama pants are starting to resemble Swiss cheese, I decided I needed to start replacing them. I have made the children's version of these before and remembered the pattern to be involved with a button fly. These pj pants are very nice once put together and not your typical simple sew pj's. I made another pair of pj or ‘lounge’ pants for the teen a few weeks ago. It’s the 3rd time I’ve used this pattern and it’s a pretty quick and sew. The flannelette is practically vintage, from the early 90’s 😆. I bought it and made us matching pj pants back in the day. The fabric is a bit thicker and cosier than the last flannelette I used and so the recipient feels very comfy wearing them. Slow sewing. Tie-dyed fabric for coordinating pajamas. Top is modified #vogue8536 (faux crossover) a good bodice fit for me. Pants are modified #simplicity8518 with pockets stolen from #butterick6296 because half of my arm fits inside. Fabric is 100% cotton jersey from #dharmatradingco dyed with #dharmaprociondyes color alpine blue. The dye pattern on top was achieved by tying many, many pennies for overall spotty design (see photo 7). Pattern matching on pants was a lucky coincidence.
