Me Made May ‘24 is long over, but I continue to wear handmade clothes every day. Over the past year or two I’ve been really successful with making clothes that I love to wear and reach for naturally when getting dressed every day. I even made my go-to slip on summer shoes!! My first sew of 2025 is view B of #McCalls7629 (re-released a few years back as #McCalls8067). I’ve had this pattern for yonks and decided to finally give it a go. Fabric is a cotton seersucker from Spotlight which I purchased the morning of NYE. Thread was from the stash - I have a large number of threads which I am determined to use, so sometimes they are not a perfect match, but this one was pretty close. Shell buttons are also from the stash, originally thrifted for 50c for a pack of 12! I made size 22, which is the largest size (grrrr). The top fits but disappointedly is probably a smidge more snug than I would like. It’s not the looser fit I had in mind, and I think a drapier fabric was what I had imagined. immediately after finishing my previous #M8067 i cut out another one in this gorgioso black viscose/cotton/linen? blend i got at @clothcontroluk in Brighton last year. I LOVE THIS SHIRT! the pattern is fun to sew, the style is simple but rather polished, and i can see myself wearing this a ton. i’m not the most careful pattern cutter, and in this drapey fabric the shirt came out a little more oversized, but I love the look. I cut the sleeve length for the longest size, which I didn’t need to do, but I think the big sleeve is fun - I sewed a lot of this shirt while listening to the BBC Book at Bedtime adaptation of Frenchman’s Creek (highly recommend!) and I feel like this is my pirate shirt now 😂 buttons are from Merchant & Mills, and i left the collar un-interfaced. #sewsewsew #sewistsofinstagram #midsizesewing #mccallspatterns #handmadewardrobe #imakemyownclothes #memadeeveryday

The brief to myself was elevated 'pyjama jacket' type shirt to break out of the cycle of repeating the same (but good) patterns. So I chose #M8067 #LivMcCalls version D long sleeves and collar in a lightweight cotton gingham from my stash. Sizing overall seemed generous to me and I raised the neckline by 3cm and would raise it more next time. I like to be covered up 😀 Usual petite mods re sleeve length. I would probably omit topstitching to the facing and reduce size of collar next time. Love the sleeves! This was a sewing success but a fitting fail. I made this for one.of my girls. It's a good pattern but my lovely girl needs an fba and has a narrow back and I didn't account for any of that. It's a pretty blouse and I'm hoping that someone in Plymouth has rescued it from the charity shop and is enjoying wearing it. She has kept the scrunchie. Remote fitting is not easy. ✨I feel expensive in this shirt ✨. Versace who?? This is a project I’ve been putting off finishing because the sleeves didn’t set in correctly so I had to seam rip and we all know how that feels 😖 But I seam ripped and added a dart to remove the excess at the top then sewed + serged to finalize the sleeve before wearing it out to a karaoke party last night. I’ve left buttons off but I do have the buttholes sewn already, perhaps I’ll leave them off because I like the look how it is. And the label is PERFECT for the fabric. Continuing on my button journey, here's my first button down shirt! The steps to making this dream camp-style shirt were surprisingly easy once I got the hang of the buttonholes. I finally figured out the forward shoulder/narrow shoulder adjustments that I need, so it fits like a glove! Me and Big 4 patterns have really been getting along lately. This is McCalls 8067 - a super simple camp collar shirt with an absolutely perfect length on the short sleeve. (This is the cropped length for the body too.) Made from a Merchant & Mills remnant that I’d been hanging onto since 2019! This is a hand-dyed voile that had some fading along the fold lines, which you can see along the center back and one sleeve. I cut a size 14 (36” bust) and made zero modifications, which just goes to show how well a McCalls pattern fits a wide-shouldered person! Buttons are vintage pearl ones from @stitchbuffalo I really enjoyed sewing this pattern - this was really just a wearable toile but I’m a little obsessed with the finished product. It’s giving 1950s mechanic and I’m very here for it!!! Also very easy to sew as the lapel is a separate piece, which makes the collar assembly a lot less stressful. My machine hated doing buttonholes on this fabric though, so I had to hand sew them - luckily I really enjoy handstitching buttonholes. I’m getting my January flower fix from this beautiful floral fabric! It’s called Dogrose Dawn and the colours and graphics just blew the cobwebs from my mind as soon as I saw it. Of course once I had settled on making this blouse, it’s McCalls 8067 view D I knew I would be pattern matching across the front and in this instance I’m happy with the results. Isn’t it just great when it all goes to plan? It makes it slightly better for when you mess up the order of the hem and topstitching which I did here which results in a not so professional hem, but it’s neat enough! Finished McCall's 8067 #m8067 This pattern has a lot of ease, so I cut a size 8, and it fits well. No modifications except a slightly deeper hem than called for. The camp collar feels a little bulky because you end up with a lot of layers, including the facing, but I think it turned out nice, and I'll definitely wear it to work as intended! #sewing #handmade #memade #mccallspatterns

When it comes to charitable causes I’m like a hungry person at a buffet who puts too much on their plate. 🫣 Despite a tight work deadline, upcoming teaching and a mountain to climb, I signed up late last year to sew for Sewing Hearts. Volunteer sewists give the less fortunate a chance to be able to celebrate Chinese New Year with custom made new clothes. How could I not step up? Fabric & notions were delivered to my house by a kind soul while I was somewhere in the Himalayas. Despite so much lead time, as usual Life got in the way and I was down to the wire. Finally managed to complete this simple button-front top she chose, made to my recipient’s measurements. I hope she likes it! Couldn’t let spare fabric to go waste, so I rustled up a matchy mask & cute reversible knot bag for when Aunty goes visiting. 🍊🧧 Of course I could have bought & donated these with half the effort and all the money in the world. Day 14 of #mmm2024 #memademay2024 and I’m gonna skip the #okaymemademay prompts for a bit. We are getting a taste of summer weather here so I dug some shorts out of the closet. Wearing #mndawn shorts in navy stretch denim that were a fit test for my wide leg jeans but work well on their own. Going for a camp counselor vibe with a camp collar #m8067 #mccalls8067 shirt in a black linen viscose from @blackbirdfabrics . The sleeves ended up too tight across my shoulders so I removed them and bias bound the arm holes. My legs have not seen the sun since September and boy is it obvious. They could blind someone.
