I finally got around to taking some photos of my latest make, the vogue #v9311 dress! 🧵🪡🌹🌇 I decided to make this in a beautiful Slub Crepe Fabric from #minervadotcom. I absolutely love the feel of this fabric which has a slightly wrinkled look and a beautiful drape and just feels lovely on your skin. It was the perfect fabric to use french seams for the first time with, and I'm glad I did as it frays a lot. Changes I made to the pattern: I made view B without the sleeves. I originally sewed the bodice and skirt as per the pattern instructions but soon discovered the deep v was just way too low cut. I therefore unpicked the bodice from the skirt (including my painstakingly done french seams 😭) and sewed the two front panels together a few inches which makes the dress so much more wearable. I also found the slit way too low (no impact) so again unpicked and raised this. The skirt length was too long for my liking and the pattern calls for a narrow hem only so I had to shorten this a lot right at the end. I would have preferred to do this from the offset (the story of this make was me unpicking and making adjustments due to being inpatient 🙈). Other comments: it is a loose fitting dress, with a tie waist to cinch it in. This makes it an easy sew with only a few steps (no need to insert a zip). This material is probably a little slippy for this so you do have to keep retieing these. I think a cotton blend would probably work better for keeping the ties tight. Overall I do love the result but, as it's a "very easy" pattern according to vogue, I do feel you sacrifice on a few design features. Hopefully I will be brave enough to tackle something a little more complicated for my next make! ☀️🧵💕🪡🤞 #memade #sewersofinstagram

Florals for Spring #v9311 💐 A floral dress for spring may not be groundbreaking - but as I have yet to meet a floral print I didn’t like, this is one trend I will always buy into! 😁🙈 This is the #voguepatterns V9311 dress, aka the Liberty #beatrixmaxidress in all its floral glory. 🌸 This pattern is part of the Very Easy Vogue collection, and I have to say that it lives up to the title well! It has a pretty straightforward construction, and you don’t need to worry about zips, buttons, or any fiddly closures since it slips on over the head and cinches with ties at the side back. The only change I made was bias binding the whole neckline, vs just the back neck that the pattern calls for. This is a bit of a nostalgic make for me - V9311 was the fourth dress I made when I first started sewing many moons ago 🥹 So definitely a cool moment to look back and see how much has been learnt since then! Fabric is a crinkle cotton gauze from @moodfabrics that’s giving me all the springtime Reformation vibes. This dress had its third outing last night, but as I'm always in a rush to get ready, I never have time to get a decent photo. So apologies for the poor quality photo in a dirty mirror, but I really want to show this dress off on my grid. It's the @simplicitymccallsuk very easy vogue #V9311 (aka #libertybeatrix) in a @oryatextiles viscose that I made for a wedding in summer, but it's made a comeback for the festive party season. I love this pattern, especially as there are no closures. I'd describe it as figure skimming rather than figure hugging, it has no zips or buttons and just goes on over my head, whilst the waist ties bring it in just the right amount. I did have to make quite a lot of adjustments to get the fit right for me. I made a size 14 and took 3 inches out of the length to make it about ankle length. I raised the centre slit by 3 inches as I figured if I was going to wear a dress with a slit up the front, I might as well make it worthwhile. I redrafted the front bodice panels to make a faux wrap rather than a plunging neckline, and I took some length out at the neckline/shoulders I'm not sure what this adjustment is as I just winged it, but I think it's to do with my narrow shoulders as the other solution would have been a wedge out of the centre back. I also lined the bodice for a nice finish on the neckline and armholes. This is actually my second version of this pattern, my first was the long sleeved version, also in viscose for a wedding, but that had one outing before I promptly shrunk it in the wash, despite prewashing the fabric. I'd love to make many more of these, but my daily life is more sick kids/school runs/work juggle than parties and weddings, so they're a bit of an aspirational sew. #voguepatterns #sewfrosting #sewistsofinstagram #sewfestive #oryatextiles #sewviscose #sewnwithbig5

Party time!! My cousins 30th birthday party at the weekend meant a new dress! Debuting my latest make, which is the Vogue 9311 maxi dress, made in this GOOOORGEOUS viscose challis from Minerva 😍 Very happy with how this turned out, and I’ll definitely be making another one or two of these. I deviated from the pattern a little, in that I left out the slit in the front skirt (nobody deserves to see these tree trunks!) and I inserted a modesty panel in the neckline because I felt quite exposed without it! 👀 I also took a tip from another maker, and inserted elastic in the sleeves instead of adding in the cuff - lots of time and gathering saved! Please excuse the stiffness in the video - I’m not a very swishy person at all, plus I was about 3 Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rums (doubles!) in at this point, and concentrating hard on not falling over…! ✨ Liberty Beatrix maxi dress ✨ I saw a beautiful sample of this dress at @milliemoonshop in Frome and knew it was perfect for a winter wedding. I had to quite heavily edit the pattern in order to fit how I wanted it (see notes below). As this was my first time doing this it was a bit stressfull at times and the fit isnt quite perfect but realy happy with how it's turned out. Looking forward to making a sleeveless version for summer! This dress was filled with lots of first as it was also my first time sewing satin.. and whilst it's beautiful and feels so lovely to wear, my goodnesss I won't be sewing with it again in a hurry! It slipped, it frayed, it plucked and stitches skipped! Just don't look at the hem or slit too closely 🙈 Swipe to also see a very happy Miles in his matching bow tie! I had only made a normal tie before which was quite a faff but turns out bowties are so easy! Will absolutely be making many more for Miles to enjoy! 🎀 Notes on pattern- - The neckline of this dress is *very* low and plunging so I made some heavy edits to make it fit me better. Most others on instagram either didn't change it or crossed the front peices over which I didn't love. So I found my own workaround to raise the neck, if anyone is planning on sewing this dress and wants to know in detail what I did please shoot me a message and I will happily explain! - I had to narrow the shoulders as they were very wide on me and like others I chose to use bias binding around the whole neckline and just ignored the instructions for this step, following my trusty Tilly and the Buttons instructions for binding a neckline! - sizing is a bit odd. Based on the measurement table, the dress looks like it will be huge. It's not fitted and has no zip so is fitted purely on the waist ties. I sized down and even probably could have gone smaller. - It was orginally a vogue pattern, rebranded under Liberty so also search for #V9311 for some more inspriation! - Overall a very speedy sew with no fiddly zips or fastenings and actually came together very quickly once I'd figured out the pattern adjustments @libertylondon #beatrixmaxidress

I was inspired to make this by @ginaseams beautiful valentine dress 🥰 It's an empire line, pop over the head dress, no zips or fastenings. There are 2 views, I made the bodice of view A with the skirt of view B. I normally dont make a toile 🙈 but because I was unsure of the sizing I did and I was so glad I did as I made a few modifications....I raised the v by 3.5 inches, I made a size 8 but took an inch off each side just under my arms, grading to the original size 8 bodice. I shortened the skirt loooooooads 😂 I used a viscose twill from my stash. I remember I got it from the stitch festival but I don't remember where exactly i got it. I finished sewing the #v9311 dress 🙌. Sometimes when a pattern says it’s easy, never mind super easy like this one, I can’t help but feel stupid when I start struggling. In essence, this is an easy dress construction wise, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fiddly. I used bias binding around the whole neckline, instead of just the back like the pattern suggested. I’d never used bias binding in this way before. The finish looks really pretty. I measure as a size 12 usually but after a few toiles I decided to make the size 10. It’s a little snug around the armholes but I’d rather that than gape around the front. I haven’t yet mastered tapering a pattern for my exact shape. I picked up this fabric at #thestitchfestival but I can’t remember who from now, I’ll link in another upcoming post. For those of you who wanted to know exactly how low cut Vogue 9311 goes…. Well here is your answer! This is my final make for the Busy Bee Sewing Challenge 2024 where we were tasked with making an outfit for a Mediterranean getaway…. And I think this fits the bill! I love how this dress is coming along but I do need to go back a few steps and fix some things. For me there is too much fabric around the hips so so am going to take that section down two sizes. I also need to do something with the sleeves as the cuffs are way too big. So I’ll either tighten up the cuff or shorten the sleeve to elbow length and make them elasticated. Haven’t decided yet as going to leave this one for a bit…. well, until the weather starts to warm up again! 🇺🇸 US Holiday Me Made Wardrobe Outfit 3: the Juno Pom Pom Dress .. . This was the one thing I was determined to make ahead of Washington- something really frivolous and fun! The fabric was called Juno, which is the name of my dog so obviously I had to buy it .. and the very easy vogue pattern #V9311 was in my mind from the start. . 🌺 Wedding Ready 🌺 I decided to sew this up last minute for the most beautiful family wedding. This gorgeous viscose has been sitting in my stash for over a year and I wanted to make sure I did it justice! And I’m hoping I did 🤞 This is my V9311 and the first time sewing a vogue pattern. It was such a simple sew, but I’m in love with the final dress 🥰 I sewed view B but without sleeves, in a size 12 and didn’t have to make any alterations, except raising the neckline by 10cm. Felt pretty great taking this dress out last night. Wearing it around was so much fun. There’s just so much dress! The dress is made from a gorgeous organza (sourced from @anitaphillipsstudio stash of fabric - thank you) The pattern is a combination of Vogue #V9311 and #V9328 I made a slight modification to the bodice, switching the darts to gathers. And made the skirt longer and wider to create a gathered skirt with so much volume. I paired the outfit with a pink satin slip (using the same patterns), my doc martens, and the most amazing green acrylic bag from @shagmelbourne

#MMMAY2025 wardrobe review I’ve had a good look at my wardrobe and the me mades I don’t often wear. Some I previously wore a lot but now rarely reach for. Others I love the fabric but the style or fit just aren’t right. My aim is to work out if I can refashion them into something I will wear or if they need to be rehomed. I’ve made a grid so I can keep track of my progress over the next 6 months. #memademay2024 day 25 - in Granada and this is the Fuente de la Batalla in the centre near Puerta Real. Today I was with @marinapalavi and @mavilalinares66 looking at Mother of the Bride dresses for Manoli... We've had the best of days. . . Without organising it we are all wearing #memade. I took no photos or videos at my first @losangelesfrocktails . In fact, I almost gave up my ticket because I lost someone very meaningful and important in my life this week, and grief is a beast. But I could hear him so clearly saying that he absolutely wanted me to go, to be with people who share one of my passions. To keep opening and honouring the work we did — are still doing, just differently now — together. I wore this dress — a make from several years ago; #v9311 , I think — because it was so clear that it was the right one to do just that. My amazing husband @neilnapier70 snapped this just before we headed out. I’m so glad I went. I was beyond grateful to be surrounded by @jasikaistrycurious , @savageblackout , @readrunsew , and @cyndiotteson — seriously, y’all…these people are the kindness, love, authenticity, and energy you want in your life! 💜💜💜 And Bear, getting the dancing started — just, well, perfect. 🥹 Thank you @lilypadesigns , for putting on such an uplifting, affirming event! 🙏 And Manny, I’ll be thanking you for the rest of my days. 🌺 #frocktails

Happy Friday! After my coat debacle I decided to go with a easy flow maxi dress ❤️ I sewed up the Vogue 9311 that has been on my get to list for at least two years. I received this stunning crepe backed satin from @minervadotcom for my ambassador project and it is just the most luxurious fabric I have ever sewn. The print is beautiful but doesn’t compare to the feel and drape of this fabric. This pattern I have seen made up many times and thought it would be perfect for an event I have at the end of the month. I love the billowy sleeves and bands. It has a plunging neckline however I bought it up about 2.5 inches to be comfortable. This pattern I found to be oversized and sized down two sizes on the bodice and one size on the skirt portion. I also ended up adjusting the shoulders as well. I love the simple lines of this dress and think the fabric elevates it quite nicely.
