Oh hey it’s been forever since I posted! Life has been busy in all the best ways. However, I couldn’t stop by my favorite small business @madewithharmony without snapping some cute pictures. They are the perfect backdrop for an outfit of the day post! My outfit is all store bought or second hand except for my skirt. It is made out of @fableism cotton woven fabric and second hand eyelet trim. The pattern is #s9734 simplicity pattern for a fairy costume. But I saw the skirt portion and thought it would be perfect for an everyday frilly skirt! It is also one of those patterns that I probably could’ve just winged it based off my measurements and been fine. It’s basically a bunch of rectangles sewn together and gathered 🤣 Fableism is my very favorite company for 100% cotton woven fabrics. They wash beautifully and are a dream to sew with. I love that Harmony stocks so many great fabrics to sew clothes with! I got this fabric there, of course. I also had to grab a stack of new apparel fabric while I was there. If you aren’t local, then check out their online store. (Not sponsored lol I just worked there previously and seriously love the place)

Half a month has passed since we returned from Costume College. It’s a good time to do a recap and reflect on the experience. I was a first time attendee and it was everything I have images and more. There are just so much to do and not nearly enough time to experience everything. I only wish I had time to even just sit in one spot and people watch. Now… little bit about the costumes we wore at the event. First few photos are our costumes worn at the Saturday night Gala. Mr @qianzaam costume was originally made for Labyrinth Masquerade Ball (aka LoJ) back in 2019. It was based on McCalls Cosplay pattern #m2087 Victor. It is a Game of Throne inspired greatcoat for a King in a small icy Northern kingdom but not based on any particular character. I added a shoulder strap to hold the cape in place this time so it’s easier to move around. The Fairy costume I was wearing is made this year with this event in mind. The corset and blouse are made from Simplicity #s9734 costume pattern. The skirt and the wing pieces are self drafted. I covered more details for them in some of my previous posts. The fairy headpiece is actually two separate pieces. Both of them are created at workshops taught at Costume College! Donna Sacrfe (Fyne Hats by Felicity) brought us many pounds of feather and fixtures to create all kinds of lovely adornments. The woodland creature headdress was made in the workshop taught by @legendarycostumeworks. It was finished on the day of the event. Can you believe that? I was very pleased with my new ears. The costume won’t look the same without them. Last photo is a regency era costume I worn for Friday night social. That was originally created for Bridgerton Ball last year. The ribbon headdress is something I put together just prior to the trip. I wanted something to cover up my inability to style my hair and it worked out well. I am happy to have met so many passionate and creative people. I can’t wait to run into everyone again in the future. Final kudos goes to @mark_edwards_photographer our official studio photographer. I am amazed how wonderful the photos turned out. #costumecollege2023 #costumecollege #costume #costumebyverlisia

Even though I didn’t take any pictures until after we had melted in the 90° heat for hours, here’s the details of my outfit that I made for the Renaissance Faire this year: Top (with modifications): #Simplicity9734 Skirt: same pattern as top Corset: self-drafted using an online generator for a base Elizabethan corset Fabric: linen/cotton bed sheets for top and skirt, 1 yard of precut walmart fabric for corset This was my first time ever making a corset and using boning. Instead of using a pattern, I just jumped in head first with drafting my own! I have such a small chest that the finished garment size of the simplicity pattern just didn’t go small enough, so I really had no choice. I’ve always been scared of making a corset and structured tops. I don’t know why now. It really wasn’t so bad at all. 😅 I’m so glad Joey finally convinced me that we should dress up for the faire this year. This project really gave me an outlet for sewing garments I normally would have no reason to make. I also got to work with new fabric types and other sewing materials. Are there any garments or fabric that you’ve been avoiding out of fear? — #S9734 #simolicityoatterns #selfdrafted #Patternhacking #corsetmaking #diyrenaissancedress #imadethis #sewistsofinstagram #sewersgonnasew #sewersofinstagram #isew #isewmyownclothes #renaissancefaire #renaissancefairecostume #renfairecostume #renfaire

One of the staple pieces I wanted in my wardrobe this year, was a few peasant tops. I have had no luck with my vintage patterns, they always come out way too tight & short on my torso. . I was very surprised that Simplicity #s9734 had a peasant style blouse included with the corset stay pattern. Which is why I originally bought it, and the fact it went up to 26W. Which finding plus sized patterns in (my size) is always a treat-let’s be real. So I decided to give it a try. ✂️ (cut out 26W) . Oh my goodness was i surprised! This pattern fits my body 💕 and gives me the right amount of gathers I need for my cottage wardrobe. Cute poofy sleeves without making any adjustments as well. Surprised me that it took a Costume pattern to find the right Chemise/peasant top of my dreams. I plan to make many more in different colors🫶🏼 now. . @simplicity_creative_group . . . #sewingproject #cottagecoresewing #peasantblouse #chemisetop #simplicity9734 #simplicitypatterns #plussizesewing #plussizevintage #corsetpattern #cottagecorefashion

Our LoJ Grotto photos by @heidimarie_photography My costume this year is a reuse from the one created for Costume College 2023 with a slightly different skirt. Mr Stag King costume is created this year for LoJ 2024. Some patterns used for these pieces - Stag King’s silver cape - McCalls Costume #m7676 Stag King’s purple coat - McCalls Costume #m4745 (this pattern does have some issues so I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners) Stag Mask - paper mask template from #wintercraft (made with paper, gilt with metal foil leaf and lacquer furnish) Fairy corset and top - Simplicity #s9734 #lojmasquerade #labyrinthmasquerade #costume #costumemaker #costumeball #sewistsofinstagram #madebyverlisia #costumesbyverlisia #fairycostume #fantasycostume #fantasyball #lojmasquerade2024 #labyrinthball

Getting closer to the finish line. Added an inner layer. Originally planned to use double georgette in yellow but decided on silk chiffon in chartreuse green. Had a fantastic day at the @abbeymedievalfestival! This is far and away the most ambitious project I've undertaken, but 3 weeks later and it's all come together 🥰 I think in total this outfit ended up using 15m of boning, 7m of bias binding and several spools of thread, all bought in many different trips to the fabric stores as I couldn't believe the pattern would need so much 😅 All of the fabric I used was second hand from various op shops and the crown is from @supercoscrown!
