I finished a second quilt coat, an Alice in Wonderland coat! 😊This was trickier than the last one, and I’ve learned that reading a pattern goes a long ways towards error reduction 🤯 I just need to add a French tack at the lining and the edge of the coat, and some bias tape along the zipper (since my rayon keeps getting mangled). . . Pattern: McCall’s #m7848 Fabric is mainly from @cottonandsteel’s @riflepaperco collections . . I have some more of the Wonderland fabric (which initially inspired this jacket), and I’m not sure if I should use it to make a quilt or try to make another jacket. This is probably my proudest make. It's a coat that I wear on mild winter or cooler autumn/spring days I love the long, sweeping, dramatic look🧡. This turtle neck drop shoulder sweater was a quick and easy sew. I have never really cared for a drop shoulder sleeve, but once in a while, I like to try out different styles regardless of how I feel. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfy this fabric and pattern went together. Can I also mention how I love wearing white/cream sweaters during the winter months? My color plate for seasonal change has no bounders. Part of this reason is for being raised in a country/climate where seasonal change colors aren't really followed. This may be my absolute favorite make this year. I am thankful I didn’t run into any issues making the coat. The only adjustment was a one-inch additional allowance to the waist length, but that was it. My boots were self-drafted, and I used the same wool from my coat and a little suede from a past project (also a first time 😅). . . I finally have some formal outerwear for my closet! I bought this beautiful #brocadefabric from @moodfabrics months ago, and I think this is the perfect use for it 🤩 I adapted #mccalls7848 (a coat pattern) to be a jacket. I basically made view C, removed the lower half and didn’t include a zipper. Modifying a coat pattern to be a jacket probably wasn’t the smartest move. The fit is much baggier on a coat, so I made a lot of alterations to the sleeves to make them slimmer and the armholes higher. I made TWO toiles and traced my own pattern pieces by the end… so it was a lot more work than I anticipated. But, I did learn a LOT about sleeve fitting. Happy with the result, but my main regret is not adding pockets!! Not as useful for formal jackets but still 😅 This jacket will get a ton of use though! A special coat for a special occasion. Last week I had my 4-ahem-0th birthday and amongst the mayhem was an afternoon tea at the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne. I've held onto this velvet fabric for about 10 years, afraid to cut it in case I ruined it. But, I took the plunge and made an afternoon tea coat using #mcalls7848. It is lined in deep purple satin. I cut the skirt wider for extra flare, added the slouchy cuffs, and used buttons instead of a zip closure. I feel it looks best when worn open to allow the skirt to flow.
