Now that I've started sewing for my daughter (9.5mo), I can't stop. The dam of selfish sewing might finally be lifting! Here's Simplicity #S9932 in the 1 year size. Didn't realize until after I made it that she would fit better in the 6 month size (chest measurement is currently 18.5"). Still, there is quite a bit of ease, and it's hard to know what size to choose because the finished chest or waist measurements aren't listed anywhere - not the envelope or the pattern pieces themselves. To get that info, you need to actually measure the pattern pieces. @simplicity_creative_group, this is the most important piece of info for fitting a dress, please stop treating these measurements like state secrets!
You know how some projects just go wrong at every turn? I had to unpick most things immediately after doing them, I just could not get this project right. The instructions are pretty clear, I was just in too much of a hurry. The big lesson from this project is to read each instruction carefully and not charge ahead. Fortunately, most things were pretty fixable. The back button placket is a bit weird because of my mistakes, but the good news is that the recipient hasn't noticed yet.
Fabric was a lightweight cotton-blend from my MIL's destash, so glad to be able to put it to use.
Hopefully she'll fit into it better before the summer is over!
