Trying out making some hats for a friend. Used Simplicity #s9491. Top, clockwise: linen lined with cotton dobby (nice - wrinkly but nice firm lining); linen lined with double gauze-backed batiste(good- sturdy lining but too thick? Hope it's not too small for her head); cotton lined with batiste-backed double gauze(same two fabrics for lining, switched); linen lined with only double gauze (lining is too wafty and stretches out weirdly). Also view B is difficult to be accurate with sewing when it's flannel lined with flannel. Gets thick. Directions are adequate but i wish had more tips and tricks for a great result.

Did you know that @simplicity_creative_group have a range of adaptive sewing patterns? And they are coming to the UK soon with @simplicitymccallsuk?? I certainly didn't until I spotted @bricolagedk posting about them earlier this week. There are eight patterns in the range (so far🤞🏼) and they include jumpers and shirts with hook and loop back closure, gowns, hats, heat packs, and storage to add to mobility aids. Have you sewn any of these? Do you have plans to sew them? Please let us know in the comments, and tag us in your posts! [Description: Image 1, a collage of the eight pattern covers, with the text "Adaptive sewing pattern alert!" Image 3, the front of Simplicity S9488, which has the same man and woman in brown cardigans. Image 4, the front of Simplicity S9489, which has the same man and woman, this time sat in wheelchairs, wearing a variety of styles of bib, designed to not look like bibs. Image 5, the front of Simplicity S9490, which again has the man and woman, this time joined by a young woman, all wearing styles of hospital gown. It's heartening to see there is more awareness of the need for adaptive clothes and sewing patterns. We recently shared @sewnadaptive's work and today we are reposting Tina @bricolagedk and @simplicitymccallsuk . JR 🌳 . @simplicitymccallsuk asked me if I would review a pattern from their Adaptive collection. There are not all that many adaptive sewing patterns so it is wonderful that Simplicity has released these and they have more in development. There are many who would like to sew something for their loved ones who are going through illness or treatment. I chose the #s9491 which has great patterns for headwear during & after cancer treatment. I made the cap in a #naniirofabric Wild Flower cotton and lined it with a nani iro cotton sateen that is very soft. All seams are encased so they don’t irritate the skin, which is rather important for those who have chemo or radiation therapy, and the cap is reversible so you get two for one. The seam allowance is 1.3cm and I chose to cut it down to 5mm so it wouldn’t be too bulky. The sewing instructions are very instructive & there are many pattern pieces but I took my time and made it a meditative process, no rush here, just one step at a time. I did some pattern tetris & used a lot less fabric than written in the instructions, so it is also a great scrap buster. It does not say in the pattern instructions what to use for stiffening the brim. I wanted to keep the soft look, so I used some very heavy cotton bustier inlay left over from my ballet costume sewing days. I like the design of the cap, it does not scream chemo head, I could just be on my way to the shops, taking the dog for a walk or making a fashion statement depending on my choice of fabric. I will be making one of the other designs for fall/winter to see how they work with heavier fabrics. It was Simplicity’s Danish retailer @villyjensen_syogstrik that was so kind to send me the pattern. #sewoverbreastcancer #so50simplicity #sewover50 #sewingthroughcancer #chronicallysewn #adaptivesewing #simplicitymccallsuk #Sewaccessible #adaptivepatterns #SimplicityPatterns #SimplicityAdaptive #AdaptiveClothingPatterns #SewEnabled Reposted from @bricolagedk
